Feb 5, 2011I had no password assigned to my windows account. Yesterday I signed out and restarted my machine. Windows now wants a password. I don't have one. How do I get back in to windows? The interesting thing is that same day my brother called me to tell me the same thing happened to him . He is running win xp. I ran a boot and run virus scanner (bit defender) and it found a few things. I still can't get in to windows.

May 1, 2012my user account keeps getting locked out on my domain. It's happening about every 30-60 minutes from my IP address. I've checked the logs on my DCs and the are Pre-Authentication errors due to my laptop being Windows 7 and the DCs running Server 2003. I've tried updating my password and making sure I am logged out of every other server/PC/mapped drive on the domain. I've also tried changing my IP, just because.The strangest part is this happens when my laptop is not connected to the network as well. I will check the logs and my IP Address is listed as the offender.

Aug 24, 2012My husband and I just got a new desktop, I originally planned on sharing a user account but since we're both in school I figured to have our own user accounts just to keep our files more separated and everything. So I created a second user account for me. I then realized that since he uses MY iTunes account, it makes sense that we use a shared music folder. Somehow I effed up my folders, the Public Music folder in particular. The only way I could see how to fix it was to restore it. Well that fixed the music folder problem, but it restored the computer back to before I had set up my own user login. No problem, I went back in and re-created it. Now my problem is that the user accounts are just fine, but the user folder from my first account is still in the the C drive under "users" but technically there is no user account that's attached to it. And of course, the folder is locked. I tried to delete it, but got a popup saying I was about to delete a system file so How to I remedy this situation???

Apr 12, 2012I've recently picked up a new hard drive from a buddy of mine.I've managed to change my computer name and user account name.However, the user folder in "My Computer -> Local Disk C: -> Users" is locked, and I am unable to change the name.It doesn't cause any problems, I just want to find a way to change it if its possible.As well, I've also set permissions, but it only allows me to access the files, which is not the problem, since I only want to change the name of the User Account Folder.

Sep 5, 2011I've a problem with ALL my Windows 7 Laptop ini my office. We have 5 Laptop with Windows 7 installed in it. A week ago, everything is doing Normally. I make those 5 laptops join domain, and I make the user in domain as an administrator in their local Laptop. But in last Monday, everything going strange:
1. When I logging in using their account, I can enter the desktop. But when I try to access some programs that need Administrator Account, it become errors and said that I must administrator privilege to access this programs.
2. I try to access user account in control panel, and when I see the user list, it become BLANK. No user defined even an administrator too. When I try to add new user in it, it said that I didn't have Administrator privilege (again).
3. I try to logging in using Local Administrator, but in the log in menu, it said that the administrator account is disabled. How Come?
4. The only way I can access with administrator privilege is using the Domain Administrator. I try to configure again, and when I restart, everything has gone again.
Windows 7 Admin Account Locked - Stuck With Standard
Sep 24, 2012I basically had 3 accounts on my computer, one being "Administrator" (w Admin rights), one "test" (Standard User rights) and one more "User" that is the one I use most frequently (with Admin rights). When I last used it last Friday the User account was still present and all my programs were working fine.
However, when I came back to office today, I found that the User account was missing from the welcome screen, and only the "Administrator" and "test" account were there. Somehow, I could not login to the "Administrator" account. When I logged into the "test" account, all the program shortcuts were blank (Firefox, Adobe Reader Etc) and only IE and the default windows programs would work. I suspected that there might be a virus, but I couldn't install anything because I did not have the admin privileges.
My question is:
1. How do I get back into my admin account?
2. is there any way to install anti-virus programs (by going around the admin account) to solve this issue?
I'm basically stuck with a standard user account and I can't do anything with it. I tried using System Restore on the Standard account, but when I click "Open System Restore" nothing happens.

Mar 6, 2012Twitter not displaying correctly, fonts are all garbled like sticks. I have tried in firefox, IE9 and Chrome. It is unreadable in all browsers and I cannot find a fix anywhere. For Character Encoding I have all browsers set to Unicode (UTF-8) as do not recall ever changing them to anything else or seeing this problem before. All other sites show correctly. Oct 31, 2011I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. So I downloaded Norton's Safety Minder to prevent it. So this sneaky prick goes around and enables the guest account, and lo and behold, porn fest again.What can I do? I don't want to keep him off the admin account, because he plays games on here, but I don't want him watching porn on my laptop either. Is there a way to put parental settings on the guest account? I know you can disable it, tried that, he just re-enables it, then disables it before he gets off. I'm really frustrated about this.

Apr 14, 2011I run Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio, and never had issues.recently I had this situation where some software doesn't run properly on my main account (admin) but only in a secondary account I had created the software is installed without problems, but then it fails to run properly as an example I have a small car speed detector which has a software to download journeys. it doesn't run as it should on the main account no matter what I try. similarly i bought a Sony Bloggie and its portable software as well as the main software that came with it don't work properly, but they do on the other account, so I (annoyingly) have to switch users, and run the software there, and then go back to my main account.I suspect some anti-virus or other stuff from my main account is "blocking" things somehow. I also had a number of instances where I get alerts like "windows cannot open this file for security reasons". I have tried to change security settings, firewall settings but nothing worked.there was a general security level that required admin status to lower, yet although I obviously am admin, windows wouldn't allow me to do.

Aug 16, 2011So I am helping a friend with her Live mail (Hotmail). I dont use it so you will have to forgive me. She forgot her password and it locked her out of the account. She has tried the passwords that she has written down and none of them work. We tried the forgot your password link and had it sent to an email of hers that no longer exists. Then tried to send it to her trusted PC but there is constantly an error code for some reason. Then I tried having it sent to another email address (mine) but I have to verify her Identity. the questions it asks are such as the last subjects sent, last addresses sent to, CC info, Xbox tag, she doesnt have Xbox, CC info on there, nor remembers last addresses sent to other than mine and one other one nor one last subject entry. When I tried sending it off the first time. Microsoft pushed it back saying "there is not enough information to verify identification" then I tried it a second time and it went through but it failed to send me her temporary password or anything. Is there a way I can get into her mail for her or a password cracker or something that I can help her get back into her email. She has been locked out for about 3 weeks now.

Feb 24, 2012I just unpacked a new PC here at work and begun setting it up. I neglected to set a password for the default Administrator account and proceeded with the setup. Once I was at the desktop I connected the computer to the domain. At that point I logged off, switched over to my account on the domain. I started installing the programs which the employee required to do her job but because of the heightened security in Windows 7 I was not able to run any files as administrator. When I did try it said the Administrator account was disabled. I logged off my account and tried to log back into the Admin account and sure enough it's disabled.I've done searches in this forum and found similar problems but not quite like the one I am facing in that I never created a second account. So the only account that exists on this PC is the default administrator account which is locked out. I tried booting into safe mode and it still said the account was disabled. How can I resolve this issue?

Oct 22, 2009I admit I did not do an exhaustive search but the issue I am facing is this.
When the screen locks, there is no option to log off the current user. All that is displayed is the password field for the currently logged in account.
I do have some GPO's running but didn't see anything that glared at me that I had removed it.
I am using the technet RTM x64 in our testing environment.
