In Windows XP, when I clicked "Run" on the Start Menu, opening up a box to type commands into, I would also see a list of recently typed commands, that I could choose from. I found this handy, as one often uses the same command more than once, and then one does not need to type it again.
That does not work for me in Windows 7, SP1. The Run box works, but I never see commands that I typed in before, and I always have to type in the commands from scratch.
How can I get that (list of recently typed commands) back into the Run box in Windows 7? A registry tweak?
I don't know if it is just my system, or whether that capability is turned off by default in Win 7. The default should be ON, however, as I think it was in XP, as I think most users would find that convenient.
I have a really weird problem here. Pinning certain apps to the superbar causes them to stop appearing in the 'frequently used programs' list - but only for certain programs; currently I've noticed it with DestroyTwitter (an Adobe Air app) but more puzzlingly, with Winamp and VLC media player.
DestroyTwitter is set to minimize/close to systray and Winamp is docked but not set to appear in the superbar at all - so its icon is always in the systray even while it's technically not 'minimized' but hidden at the top of my screen.
On the other hand, VLC doesn't have any special tray settings. Also, Digsby works fine pinned and in the recent menu, and it's set to close to systray (though it minimizes to taskbar).
I know opening an app from the pinned apps doesn't 'count' towards the use count that the frequently used programs list is based on - but even opening them from their start menu entries doesn't make any difference until I manually unpin the app. The rest of the frequently used programs list works fine.
I can't figure this out. Anyone have any thoughts? (I've tried changing the minimize-to-tray settings, with no difference).
Sometimes when I lag and Im typing my words Im typing will type out twice and overlap in sentences. In the screenshot I have included you can see this. I tried typing "I know theres ppl who work for little pay", and it overlapped. This issue used to happen on my old computer which was Windows XP but it only had 1 gb of RAM I know have 2gb and I thought I wouldnt be dealing with lag issues as often.
I I just lost an important function. When I store important websites I'm working on, I just type the complete URL on the Wordpad page I'm working on. For, instance,[URL]Then when I click on the URL it will open up the website. Somehow, I just lost that capability. How do I get it back.
When I click on the Windows 7 start button and type in a file name into the search box, very often files I know that exist on my hard drive are not listed in the indexI went into Indexing Options where it shows about 4000 files index (seems low), Local Disc (C) is listed under indexed locations. Is there any way to fix this problem so that ALL of my files on my hard drive are indexed, so I can quickly find them via the Windows 7 Start menu search box?
#1. I changed the windows password for a user. After that, I am not able to login if I type the password in key board. If I type same password using On-screen keyboard option of Ease of access, I am able to login.
I thought it could be issue with key board. After login, I checked all keys are working fine.
#2.Due to issue #1, I created one more user and added it to administrator group. I am able to login to windows with this new user with password typed in keyboard. But after login when i type some characters, it displays other characters. For e.g., when I type '', it shows '#'
I have HP laptop with windows 7 ultimate. Sometimes my keyboard is messed up (i.e. typing letters shows numbers) and after restart or log off and log in again, the keyboard goes back to normal. The problem has repeated several times and I don't know the reason
I am typing away whether it be an email forum reply or in note book and not noticed I've had caps on, I've done this a few times. Is there an easy way to highlight text and swap between upper and lower case?
I recently ran a new program named Power Tool Lite. Now all the commands have disappeared and now the new ones won't hold. When I open Run there's only a blank field where the commands used to be. Is it possible to get them back or if I start the list over again how to make them stay after they are typed in?
I am having a problem with Windows 7 Pro. My machine's slowest functions are waiting for ascreen to scroll, switching between different windows, and other "routine"operation commands. <div> I have run defrags, system optimizers, registry optimizer, removed temp files and cleaned the HDand other things, but the fact remains that my system slows when trying toexecute simple commands like "scroll!" (Have even adjusted scroll from the control panel options).<div> Am running with 2GB RAM, a slow 4500rpm HD of 250GB and anIntel Core 2 processor.

I'm working on a computer and currently removing some viruses. I noticed a couple things,1) Trying to save to certain locations will come up with a permissions denied error. I tried to unzip a file to the desktop and got a permissions denied error.2) Typing commands in the start menu goes to search results instead of straight to that item. For example, typing "control" should bring up the control panel but it goes to search instead. Same with msconfig, appwiz.cpl, etc,
Is there some way to configure Windows 7 to execute commands (such as resolution changing, killing/starting processes and services, etc.) whenever the laptop switches from AC to DC and back? I have been using batterysaver from codeplex.com but it is still in beta and hasn't seen any updates for around 6 months. It is somewhat unreliable and I can't get it to trigger nircmd.exe to lower my resolution when I switch to battery or to raise it when I switch back.I think my best bet would be Task Scheduler, but I don't know how to make a power event a trigger.
I'm running Win 7 64 bit. I used to be able to run commands from the search box(start => search programs and files) This doesn't work any more. Now if I put in cmd or regedit, and hit enter...nothing happens.
I want to create a utility software where i can create my own custom commands like copy, rename, move, delete etc. But i don't have any idea how shouldWhich language i should use to create it?OS Platform : Windows 7
I have a batch file (.bat) that contains 29 lines of commands and REMarks. When I double click on the file name, a command window opens but nothing is executed (commands or REMarks).Within the opened command window (cmd.exe), if I type the name of the batch file followed by RETurn, the commands are executed normally. This used to work under XP and I can'tremember if I ever got it to work since switching to Windows 7. why the batch file (or the shortcut version) just opens a ommand windowbut does not seem to read and execute the contents ?
In Windows 7, I have found erroneous results in executing DOS commands (DIR and MOVE) using the wildcard *. a sample command is:
dir "42013*.LIC > "List 42013 LIC.txt"
This should make a list of all the files in the directory that begin with "42013". But, I get additional files listed that do not begin with "42013" or even contain the sequence of numbers.
I want to put CCleaner into my plugin bar of my browser (Maxthon2.5.18.1000) via Tools>External Tools. But, here's the problem. Normally, when opening CCleaner from a shortcut, one then has to give permission before it opens. I have followed Brink's protocol to elevate a shortcut [URL]. So, now when clicking on the pinned shortcut, CCleaner opens without having to give permission. Its path is C:WindowsSystem32schtasks.exe /run /tn CCleaner. The problem arises when trying to place CCleaner into the plugin bar as I just can't get it to work.
When setting the external tool's Utilities dropdown Command field to C:WindowsSystem32schtasks.exe /run /tn CCleaner (and nothing else in any of its other fields), that doesn't work. And, when setting to C:Program FilesCCleanerCCleaner.exe, it works, but I have to first give permission...which I don't want to have to do.
I just put together a computer from scratch, bought a windows 7 pro 32bit. I get all the way to booting by disk and when the option to make choices comes up I am unable to give any directional commands to the system.
I want to set up a server using java on my new computer that I built, but my computer doesn't recognize any Java commands even though I re-installed it twice. SO I looked at Java's tutorial, but they did not mention the location of the class or were to find the location of the class. I
I have a batch file that mounts a network storage location using:pushd (storage_server_path)and then executes a Python script in the directory on the network storage server.I noticed that if I hit the 'X' in the top right corner to close the command prompt while the Python script is running, the network storage location stays mapped on my machine even though the batch file contains popd to unmap the drive after I am done. Is there a way to ensure that all commands in the batch file are executed even if the command prompt is closed? I don't want to have multiple different shortcuts mapped to this drive.
In the start menu the games I play don't go higher up the list, in fact they keep getting pushed down until they aren't even in the menu at all by programs that I run once in a blue moon.
Games should be ordered by how frequently they are used, the same way that all other programs are, despite the fact that there is a games folder.
...and yes, I'm aware that games can be pinned to the start menu.
