View 1 Replies View RelatedMy desktop d-link wireless card is causing my desktop to stutter. I have done a bunch of tests on my hardware / software / drivers, and I am sure it is a problem with the D-link card. I am currently at school where I have to connect to the internet using XpressConnect ( Cloudpath Networks - WPA2 )The stuttering effects the entire system (sound, video, keyboard/mouse, etc) and lasts for a few secondsdditionally, it only occurs when streaming video/music online, or when playing online games.I have updated the drivers, and I have installed the drivers without the D-link software using device manager and selecting the driver files from my computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a link on the desktop, or elsewhere, and when opened, to open it with a specific program rather then the default? Specifically, I use FF as my default browser, but I would like to use IE for a couple specific links. I know I can just open IE but it would be convenient to create an icon/link on the desktop to the location, and when opened, to be opened by IE rather then the default program for that extension (FF).I just realized that I could make another extension, a new one not used by any program, and just make that extension opened by IE by default then rename the link on the desktop, I think that would work, but is there a way to edit the link and tell it specifically what program to use when clicked rather then the default?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up home media server. At least trying to...My home network looks like this:2 laptops (ubuntu/windows7) and a home server (ubuntuServer + Samba).I've samba setup in a way to provide password-less access to share folders. I secured it by blocking all IPs but the range I use at home. (I can provide config details upon request). With ubuntu laptop, I can connect to server without any issue. I just go to network tabs and can see windows WORKGROUP share smb share both pointing to same folder. So all works good. I can also mount external drive without issue, or create network drive. Connection never times out and it stays all good.
.Problem#1 Using "map network drive" tool I cannot use hostname (server.local) I've to use IP. This means that every time server box is asigned a new IP by my dumb router I have to delete the drive and run wizard again. This is very annoying. Since IP doesn'ts tay static I cannot use WINS or map IP in hosts file. So I'm open to suggestions from your side.
Problem#2 Windows 7 disconnects network drive every 15 minutes (I think), on SAMBA I configured to stay live all the time. But windows has its own mind so it doesn't keep connection live. This results in, lateness when I try to go to my computer as OS tries to find and add drive on network. Every 2 times in 5 this procedure gives me error, host cannot be reached or something like this. So I've to delete folder and remap drive again, which surprisingly works every time! so annoying! I don't have to do this in ubuntu at all, I don't understand why windows behaves in this way.
Problem#3 Very often I cannot ping linux server from windows using hostname, like this: ping server.local - but I can at the same time ping with IP. And also from ubuntu atm I can ping server.local without any problems.
I purchased a new laptop with win 7 but cannot connect to my old router d-link wbr 1310.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working fine yesterday, it showed about 6 Networks and I was able to connect to my own network, D-Link fine. Now after playing a game via game booster I tried to acces Google Chrome and it says "this webpage is not available" I cant acces Skype or steam or anything that requires internet. I thought I had simply disconnected my self but when I went to check, it shows no networks. I thought this was my connection but then tried other devices "I-Mac, I-Pad, Windows XP Desktop and a DSI" and they all seem to find many networks and connect to D-Link fine.

HP was WiFi connected to laptop which is in another room from the PC and printer and had been working perfectly.I have brought the laptop into the room with the PC and printer. First problem arose as I was told " incorrect " password. Router is a DI- 524 ( no longer supported on D- Link's web page as 5 yrs old ) After several attempts and " hissy fits " , I was able to poke around in a help web page and I think I found the password , tho it was listed as the " Preshare Key ".Have been using the Epson Installation disc and things seem to go along smoothly , then it always bombs out --" Not connected " message appears, I print out a Status Report it's fairly long and a little hard to interpret , but it does say the password " does not match the one set for your router/access point" .I did have some probs when I first linked my previous printer to the laptop , some years ago , but can't recall the many steps I went through back then.Have got W7 , Epson printer model is WF 3520, laptop is a Toshiba.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI purchased a laptop last week with Windows 7 home premium. Currently have desktop wire to router with Windows 7 home premium as well. Everything hunky dorry in regards to internet connection. 2 days later, I've lost internet connection to both computers. Both say I'm connected to my network. I have other mobile devices that can connect to the router, so I don't think that's the issue. I read about disabling Home Group, which I did and that didn't help. I've got to think that there is a setting I just need to tweek, but have yet to come across something that works. The laptop does connect at my work to the WiFi so the network card is working properly. Both computers will connect to the internet if I bypass the router and connect ethernet cable directly from modem to computer.
