I have a laptop that needs to have an OS installed, however the screen does not work for it. Is it possible to install Windows 7 onto the hdd while connected to my desktop?
Is there some kind of way to emulate the hardware in my laptop for the install?

I have set set sharing on drives and folders to Everyone. While the desktop can see the laptop over the home network, when I try to access files, I get the "enter username password" dialog box, which seems to have no function (at least to me).

Everything hunky dorry in regards to internet connection. 2 days later, I've lost internet connection to both computers. Both say I'm connected to my network. I have other mobile devices that can connect to the router, so I don't think that's the issue. I read about disabling Home Group, which I did and that didn't help. I've got to think that there is a setting I just need to tweek, but have yet to come across something that works. The laptop does connect at my work to the WiFi so the network card is working properly. Both computers will connect to the internet if I bypass the router and connect ethernet cable directly from modem to computer.

processor: intel P IV Dual Core 3GHz
motherboard: Mercury Intel chipset 945
ram: transcend 2gb ddr2
graphics card: Palit GeForce 9400GT (1024 MB DDR2)
Hard disk: Seagate 500GB SATA (brand new)
power supply: Mercury 450W (brand new)
since i had a problem with the hard disc and power supply earlier, i had them replaced..now as i tried a clean install by booting from my dvd, it completed installation of windows but after the first restart it came to a blue screen where a process of "dumping physical memory to disc " reached 100% and the computer crashed.i left it on its own but it crashes again and again at the same blue screen...this is what the blue screen looks like

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space(which i have 50GB).If a driver is identified in the stop message,disable the driver or

I have been getting the blue screen of death on my win 7 Dell desktop for about 2 weeks. I managed to back up all of my files onto an external hard drive , but then today started getting the same BSOD when starting up my toshiba win 7 home premium 64 bit notebook.
Since the BSOD on my desktop , I am unable to connect to the internet as it no longer recognises the wifi card in the PCI slot. So I will continue with the information from my notebook.

I have a laptop that is running windows 7 and can view the document folder on my vista desktop but when I try to access it, it restricts me saying I don't have access. I removed the password being required to access files. I took off the shared wizard thing on the folder I want to access (on the vista desktop) that was recommended by another user on the site.

[code] I recently noticed the transfer rate really slow, at an average about 1.5MB/s.I have tried enabling Better Performance option but what happens is that it starts really fast and then goes down to about 1.5MB/s anyways and usually just freezes or stops.I also have a laptop, its an Acer Aspire AS5745DG-6681. Specifications are:Intel Core i5-480M, 15.6" HD (1366x768) LED-backlit, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Combo Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M 1GB, Wireless N, HDMI, Webcam, 9-cell, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.I updated the RAM to 8GB on the laptop.Using the same external hard drive, I can get rates at an average of 30MB/s and better performance is also disabled on the laptop.I Don't know what the difference is they both have Windows 7 64 bit, just the laptop is Home Premium and my desktop is Windows 7 Enterprise.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the last few days my Toshiba Satellite L745-S43210 hasn't been working right. Recently it won't boot up properly. It started to boot up and then it would freeze up seconds after showing my desktop. I managed to go into safe mode and use msconfig to change start up programs and turn it to only the essential items. After that it worked and I tried turning everything back on and it worked fine last night. I assumed it was just overheating from being used so much in the last few days. Now today when I tried starting it up I was able to enter my password but the screen went black with my mouse pointer working. I turned it off and tried again a few times before going into safe mode.
I went back into msconfig again and turned it back to only essential programs and I performed a virus scan with Super Anti-Spyware and Malware Bytes and the only thing that they found were cookies. I cleared them out and booted up windows again and it worked fine. Now I am trying to select only certain programs and choose only the Microsoft, Intel and Toshiba programs/services and now when I boot it up I don't even get the the text box to enter my password, it just shows the blue windows start up screen. Right now I am using Safe Mode With Networking to type this and try messing with start up programs again.
I have tired everything that I have seen on these forums. Perhaps I am overlooking something simple. I have gotten them to the point where I can see them on each system but when I tried to access them I get "path not valid error". The other thing is it was working before I went on vacation. I used my laptop in Florida and since I have been back I cant get on the network. I don't know what I did to get on the network the first time....

Other times I get a message box that I do not have permission to access the desktop. Other times still, everything works fine.The xp can access the laptop no problem. The laptop can always see the desktop in the network, the problem is accessing it to share files or use a printer attached to the desktop.I have no passwords on either computer. I do not use home groups because I find that work groups work better for what I am doing. I have researched hours and hours on forums and goggling troubleshooting tips but I can not find one thing that will fix my problem. So here it is.My laptop can see, view and access my desktop no problem. It shows up on the network and also sees the media devices on it. I can ping and view and alsp remote to desktop. So this is working as expected.My desktop however cannot see my laptop on the network. I can ping and view laptop by ip address though. I can also see the laptop as a media device. I just cannot see the laptop as a computer on the network.I have renamed work-group, reconfigured windows firewall, disabled windows firewall, and pretty much done everything basic and also some minor registry changed but converted back because problem did not fix.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a new Toshiba Laptop (Windows 7 64bit CORE i3). I would like to run (via usb) and old hdd from my desktop which was 32bit Windows 7. I have the old hard drive in a SATA enclosure and running it via USB to my laptop. When I attempt to either copy or read the old hard drive I get a write protect error. I have tried the MS registry changes to remove "write protection" but the registry entry they call for is non existent in my laptop registry. My last post on this was annotated as solved...but my explanation was weak. I do not want to run this drive as a permanent addition to my system, I just need to copy some files from the old drive to the new one. If I attempt to use Control Panel/Disk Management it tells me the old drive is not "initialized". Both options to initialize don't work. I have some very important medical records that must be copied from old hdd to new.

Machine 1 - Dell 2.66 running win7 32 bit. (M1)
Machine 2 - Generic 1.8 running win7 32 bit. (M2)
Machine 3 - HP i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz running win7 64 bit (M3)
They're all Home Premium. I can push or pull files from M1 to M2 and visa versa. But I cannot pull or push between M1 and M3. After several hours this morning I was able to have M3 pull from M2, but I could not push and I could not get M2 to push or pull from M3.I am at wits end. I have no idea why I was able to get M3 to pull from M2...all machines have the same settings.The error I get when pushing or pulling is: I'm not opposed to rechecking everything, perhaps it's something small, but I've been trying to get this to work for weeks and can't seem to figure it out on my own. I wish they' would have left things alone with the networking like win2k. Also, quick note, the workgroup name and the network name are the same.
