Apr 1, 2012 I am considering the purchase of a NetGear ReadyNas Ultra 2 Plus for my home network.At the present time, I have a file server that is about 6 years old running an old pair of 200GB hard drives.While these drives are not mirrored, they are synchronized multiple times per day using Robocopy.I've reached the point where I don't want to manage and maintain a server (windows or linux) to provide simply storage on my network. By going with a NAS device, I can eliminate OS patches and updates and having to maintain another device. The NAS device will consume less power than my server, and take less physical space.And these NAS devices have DNLA built-in, so streaming from my PS3 and 360 should be simple. And the particular version of this NAS device offers iSCSI target support...which i could take advantage of in my virtual lab at home.
I've found the Ultra 2 Plus for $379 from Amazon.This model has the dual core atom processor, which is advertised and reviewed to provide around 30% more performance than the single core atom offering.. I'm planning to add a pair of 2TB Seagate Barracude Green 64MB Cache and run them in the mirrored Netgear X-RAID2 setup. This provides a mechanism so that I can actually replace the 2TB drives later with larger drives without having to backup and restore data to the device.Any particular reason you guys can think of to say this is a bad idea? With both drives, I'm looking at $619 for a small, silent device, which allows hot-swap drives, easy sharing and support for my 360/PS3 and it provides 2TB of mirrored storage space.

Aug 30, 2009I really like the new up-scaling ability built into the latest version of PowerDVD9 Ultra.It really works well.
Is there any way to tell Media Center to use it as the default DVD player when I go to play a stored DVD on my hard drive?
Power DVD9 is already my default player for my BluRay isos. I would really like to use it for my SD DVDs also.

I have no problem paying for a newer version but 6.6.0.18 is the newest version that will run with DVD Shrink. Can I install and run it in compatability mode. Dec 3, 2012I have a couple of questions regarding the use of VirtualBox on win7 ultimate (64bit). I want to run WindowsXP (32 bit) as a guest so in regards to the installation/setup of the OS the following questions arise: 1a)Does VirtualBox "look" at the actual motherboard and peripherals, ie my gtx660 and asus p8z77-pro, or will it create generic video/mobo/audio/lan/wireless "hardware" for windowsXP to detect. If its "created" where/how do i get the drivers for this? 1b)Will running updates for WinXP (ie patches/hotfixes) or any of the other programs installs "mess" with how the virtualbox operates? 2a)In terms of creating the "storage" for the virtual OS. Should i have made a seperate partition exclusively for this virtual box? I have a 2TB HD which i have split into 1TB partitions when I installed win7. 2b)What happens when I end my guest session in virtualbox, after I install the OS and games? where does that data get saved? 3)I understand that when I run winXP through virtualbox, the ram I set aside in the setup will be unavail for my win7 to use (while i run virtualbox of course). I currently have 16 gigs or ram, should I just set the ram amt for winXP to the 4 gig max and leave 12 for Win7? or should i do some other amt? 4)Last, but most important, if i mess-up with the install of winXP or settings for the guest client, how much will it affect win7?

Nov 2, 2009I have a Rock Quaddra Ti laptop - Its really a Clevo D880p. Sager also rebranded it. It has a RAID controller which my hard drive is connected to. Im not using the RAID functionality in any way.
When I try to install windows 7 from XP, it says that the PROMISE TECH ultra IDE driver is required. It then offers me the option to browse to it to conitnue my update.
Unfortunately I can not find any Vista or Windows 7 drivers for this piece of hardware. Its rather surprising as it was quite a popluar laptop at the time, very well known for its power.
Can i just skip this stage, and the drive still work? Or does anyone know of a solution? The laptop is 6 years old - surely someone must have updated theirs with vista and must have a windows 7 compatible driver?

Aug 15, 2012I installed VM ware installed XP mode English thinking I could change locale well no dice, So I was wondering can I install another XP mode but this time in Japanese, I don't have to worry about licenses since I have like 12 copies of XP, Reason is that I have programs that work only in XP English and others that only work in the Japanese Unicode, As for info App Locale is not an option since it doesn't boot the program, Mind you I dont need to run them at the same time.

Aug 27, 2011I'm running Windows 7 32 bit and I just noticed that all my drivers for the USB controllers, Audio/Sound devices and the Networking internet (Broadcom Netxtreme Drivers) have all died. They indicate that a Code 39 is the problem. I tried to load some of the drivers but it wouldn't allow them to install. I did a last known configuration attempt, no results. Did a system restore and it gave me an error message saying it didn't restore properly. I am trying to get the drivers online, burn them to a disk and load them. I have no internet access on that PC and the USB ports obviously don't work. I can get drivers on this PC online. Some I can't find. I did the uninstall driver, disable, all the usual for this problem. I am stumped. Any recovery attempts produce nil results. Thanks to Microsoft, I have no installation disc to do a new install or a backup image.

I have two local area connections, 1 and 2, and 1 is what I want it to be while 2 is a default Microsoft IP.I put that image onto another system and after loading it I don't have Local Area Connections 1 and 2 anymore but Local Area Connections 3 and 4. When I first boot, the computer says Device Drivers Successfully Installed.Why am I losing Local Area Connections 1 and 2 and thus creating 3 and 4 which both have default Microsoft IPs? I want to retain the Local Area Connection 1 that has the static IP that I desire.

May 18, 2012Having issues with RAID0 array being detected by Windows7 Ultimate x64 as SCSI. Apparently these drivers are the 'default' drivers that install when the RAID array is initialized. There is no option at this point to install other drivers instead.Using DeviceManager, there is an option to 'update drivers', and regardless of the method chosen, even selecting the file for a previously-downloaded set of drivers, Windows7 always comes back with a message of "Windows has determined that the best drivers for your system are already installed". Considering that SCSI drivers are the OLDEST ones out there, and actual SCSI devices are becoming rarer and rarer, how is it that these drivers cannot be replaced with more current and more applicable drivers?

Nov 14, 2009Have one question, When I installed Windows 7 the only drivers I have installed were my video and audio which are not part of the motherboard (not onboard). My computer runs fine but 1 game but more or less I never installed any driver for my motherboard.
Normally you install the motherboards nforce drivers, raid SATA/IDE drivers etc... Do I need to go back to my motherboard vendor and find updates for windows 7 or just leave it they way it is, or should I install the drivers off the motherboard CD I have here? My mobo doesn't have any windows 7 updates btw there all windowsXP based drivers.
