I have 3 computers on a LAN. Two run XP (pro) one runs Windows 7 all current.
They are all in the workgroup MSHOME. Homegroup on Windows 7 is unassigned. From Win 7 I can access the XP boxes. From XP I cannot connect to the Windows 7 box with the message ... "logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"
I have a problem on my tiny home network. I have 1 desktop with windows 2000 and laptop with windows 7 home. I shared folders on windows 2000 and removed all passwords. it means when i boot 2000 system i am not asked for any credentials. But when i tried to see those folders from windows 7 i am always asked for login and password. I also have Andriod tablet and it access those folders (on win 2000) without problem. Also i cannot access shared folders on my win 7 laptop from this tablet (it also is asking for login and password on win 7 but win 7 does not have it).
I have 4 worstations in the same HomeGroup I can access the files of workstation 1 from the two workstations but the 3th one in the 3th one the the shared folder appears but when I try to aceess the files inside I get an error can't acess contact administrator the pasword protection is disabled in the workstation 1 and I can access the files from the other two workstations so I have no clue what is going on I have disabled the firewall and Norton IS on both workstations but still can't access the content of the sahred folder
I just bought an Alienware laptop with windows 7 home premium 64bit. As soon as I got it, I connected it to my network and attempted to access my shared files, but it wouldn't detect any of my computers on the network. I have an iMac with Snow Leopard, sharing a few hard drives, & an old Qosmio with Windows XP Media Center Edition, sharing one hard drive. The iMac and Qosmio both detect each other with no issues, sharing files has never been better. I don't remember doing anything special, other than sharing files, on Windows XP, for the files to be present on other devices. On Snow Leopard, I added the XP account, & the Windows 7 account. I enabled sharing files, specifically, AFP & SMB.
And then checked both XP & Windows 7 accounts to assure accessibility. The Group (Workgroup) is the same across all 3 devices. XP detects my iMac & can access the files, & the iMac can detect XP & access the files. Now, my iMac can sometimes detects the Alienware/Windows 7, but since I'm not sharing any files/folders on it, it can't access it. My main problem(s): Windows 7 never detected XP. Once, Windows 7 detected & accessed all files on the iMac, but after shutdown/restart (Possibly updating Windows 7 to Service Pack 1), Windows 7 does not detect or show any computer on the network folder other than itself.
If I turn on "PS3 Media Server" on the iMac, Windows 7 detects it, but when I open it, it takes me to Windows Media Player, which then tells me that the PS3 Media server is empty. On Windows 7, Advanced Sharing Settings, "Home or Work" network settings (I'm have my network set to "Home Network"), Network Discover is ON. File & f=printer sharing is ON. Public Folder Sharing is On. Media Streaming is On. File sharing connection is set to 40- or 56-bit encryption. Password protected sharing is Off. HomeGroup connections is set to "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers". I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, if that matters. XP has it as well.
I have my mbp for 9 months, snow leopard should find automatically every pc on the network but It never found my home desktop everytime, only some times.
but I could easily connect to it using automount maker or in finder with go -> connect to server. I haven't change anything (at least as far as i know) and now my mac can't find or connect to my Windows 7 desktop...!
my desktop see's my mac on the network and can connect to its shared folders but my mac can't see the desktop. my other laptops at home runing windows xp and ubuntu can see the desktop too, so i don't know what is wrong! workgroup is the same.
this is definitely a problem from my desktop as my mac can connect to other pcs too.
I have two computers running windows 7. One is a laptop, one is a desktop. Both are connected to the same router. The desktop is direct wired via ethernet, and the laptop is wirelessly connected.I set up a homegroup and successfully connected both computers to the homegroup. If I share one of the "Libraries" folders on either computer, it instantly shows up in the Homegroup folder where shared items should appear. Any other documents or folders that I share from either computer do not appear, no matter what I try.I right click, choose "share with" and then "homegroup read/write". It doesn't appear accessible from the other computer. I choose "specific people" and then add "everyone," "guest" and "homegroup" all with read/write, and it doesn't appear on the other computer.
Shared files in win7 corrupted by HOMEgoup settings. Many problems with shares (ex XP connect problems) are caused by changed Microsoft settings, and potentialy bad MS implementation!
Quote : YOUR PASSWORD NEEDS TO BE IDDENTICAL on all systems using file share is INCORRECT(incomplete)
I have a very strange problem with a new Dell optiplex Windows 7 professional Pc I am using it as a file server. I keep getting messages in the shared folders. Access denied, file in use, You don't have permission. Something thinks these files are in use and they are not. If you reboot the computer they all clear but it comes back on different files. It is not a permission problem.
Whenever I move folders from my shared folders ( Users/public/public documents for example) it copies the files instead of just simply moving them. The folders are on the same hard drive/partition so there does not seem to be any reason it should start doing this. I dont know what I could have changed on the computer to cause this to happen either. it is quite a frustrating problem however because large files take a while to transfer when they should be moved instantly.
I am running winows 7 ultimate 32bit as a server, i have the c: drive shared to all 13 users on the network. All 13 computers are running windows xp pro. The problem that I am having is this:When i open up the shared c: drive on a windows xp computer, and open a folder to view files, it only shows 122 out of the 227 files.when i open up the c: drive on the windwos 7 machine, i can see all 227 files.when i open up excel or word, and open a file that is stored on the windows 7 machine, it will open fine, but when i try and browse for the file that is stored on the windows 7 machine, it does not show it.now here is the interesting thing:when i open up the shared c: drive on another computer running windows 7, (not the server) i can see all 227 files and have no problems.i have multiple folders, ex: mypics2008, mypics2009, mypics2010, mypics2001, mydocs2000, mydocs2010, all shared off of the c: drive on the windows 7 server. this problem started a few weeks ago, i was able to see all the files in every shared folder off of the windows 7 server through all of the windows xp pr machines a month ago, and all of a sudden in the past few weeks, i am no longer able to see all of the files shared off of the server.i have rebuilt the index on the windows 7 server i have removed and redone ALL security, and sharing settings i have checked, rechecked and checked again all the file sharing settings I am stumped, and i consider myself knowledgable with computers.
I have a couple of desktops and laptops connected on a wired network. I have no problems accessing and copying files. This isn't about access denied or other machines not being visible. My issue is that one of my laptops can be accessed and I can move through all shared folders but sometimes when I try to copy a file from this machine the copy dialog opens but no data is being copied. The transfer rate stays at 0kb/s. Rebooting this machine helps partially, but file transfers will start at well below 1Mb/s and very slowly rise some during the copy. I don't have this issue with any other machine. In fact, I have never seen an issue like this. Most people have problems with read/write permissions, again, that's not my problem. Data just won't move when copying sometimes. All machines are running Windows 7 ultimate and avast 5. The laptop with this issue is a Toshiba e205, core i5, 4gigs ram, atheros ar8152 ethernet. Should also mention that I don't have a problem with other traffic on this connection such as internet or like I said accessing shared files in explorer. They just won't copy.
I have two computers, 1 running Windows 7 and 1 running Windows XP. We'll call them 7 and XP.
Never computer can see shared files or directory even through both have it turned on through the "Network ICON"
So here is the spin
If I type Computername on 7 I can see all my shared directory and files (with access to copy them over without a problem) Same on XP
I've even installed the printer that is on XP onto 7 (although it's can't seem to actually print at this time)
Based on the fact that I can type computer name and get access on both computers I would imagine all my settings are correcct... but like my spelling.. something must be off
I have few XP Pro PCs and a windows 7 Pro x64. The XP PCs can see and access the shared Windows 7 but the Windows 7 couldn't. Windows 7 can see the XPs but when i click on the XPPCs it said Windows Can't Access XP-pc. I click the Detail and it said Network Path Wasn't found. I tried to Diagnostics and it couldn't find the problem. It looks like firewall blocked to me but i disabled windows firewall and security center from windows services. XPPCs don't have any firewall. from Windows 7 i can ping those XPs. I enabled most of the services related to the network.
From the windows7 can't open the its shared folders either. it said the network path was not fould
I guess this issue has been posted before but I am experiencing some trouble trying to connect from wireless.
Here are the details:
Windows 7 professional on Dell laptop
Windows XP professional on Dell desktop (has shared folders & printer)
Netgear Router WGR614
Laptop can see and access all shared files and printers whilst connected directly to router (via Ethernet) but cannot see them when connected via wireless.
I've been working with I.T. for years, and when I went to a client's last night to share a drive over the network so they can install a program on a secondworkstation and use the database on the original machine. Anyway, sharing this drive shouldn't have taken me more than five minutes. However, I'm encountering problems I've never seen before. The Win7 PC sees the Vista PC on the network, but not any of the shared drives. And when I try to explore the Vista PC from the Win7 PC, I get an errors: ""Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (Vista PC) is not responding."Both PCs are on the same network, obviously, AV software and Windows firewall disabled on both, Homegroup off on Win 7 machine, both machines on same workgroup "WORKGROUP," set with static local IPs/DNS, etc., and both able to access network resources and the internet. One thing I HAVE noticed, however, is that when exploring the network on the Vista PC, I can't see anything (including the Win7 machine,) except the Vista PC itself and the router.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong? I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Even the SFC on the Vista PC didn't find any issues. I've checked the services, and all that should be running are set to Auto, and are started and running. I've looked for hours online, trying every possible option I can find, to no avail. I'm completely stumped! Never in my years in IT have I encountered this.
I made a work group between 1 window seven PC and 2 window XP PC.In Window7 PC I shared folders and can see them in the 2 window XP all files and subfolders that are already in the folders before were shared. But all the files and subfolders that add after were shared I can't see.I found the subfolders that add after the shared folder was created were not shared and if I shared the subfolder I can see; but with the files nothing. How can I see all files and subfolders added to the shared folder after created?
I have a Windows 7 desktop and laptop. My desktop can access shared files on my laptop just fine.
But for my laptop to access files on my desktop I have to have a password on my desktop and have it set to "password protected sharing." I guess this is not a big issue but I don't really want a password on my desktop because it doesn't go anywhere and it's another startup step...
I've tried taking the password off the laptop but that didn't help either.
I currently have a workgroup set up with a server (running Server 2008) and 4 identical (literally) computers. Each computer has certain shared files. There is no problem seeing or accessing the files on these computers.I am trying to add a fifth computer to the workgroup. I have added the new computer and can see the other 4 computers. However, every time I try to access any of the other 4 computers on the workgroup, I am asked for my network username and password. It doesn't matter what I put for the username and password - nothing works. It continues to say "Logon failure: unknown username or bad password".
I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My desktop has Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have been trying to allow folder sharing between the two, but it won't work.
On my desktop, I can access all my files from my laptop. However, when I try to access the shared files from Vista on my laptop, it takes forever and then I get a message that says "Windows cannot access \BILL-PC." But I can access all of the media files.
They are both on the same network entitled WORKGROUP.
So far, I have done the following on both PCS
- Enabled sharing of the printer itself.
- Gave permissions to 'everyone' and full access under c:windowssystem32spoolprinters.
- Added guest users that share all files and folders.
They are obviously on the same network since I can see them both listed. However, why it keeps telling me it cannot access my desktop.
I decided to connect the xbox to my home network, but when I did so all of the shared files and folders got locked. Being locked I cannot watch the videos or play the music with manually unlocking them first. So is there a way to revert them back to their unlocked state? There has to be an easier way than manually doing it... because I have around 50GB of music... that would take an eternity. Here's a screenshot for reference: [URL].
Printer plugged into Win7 box - how to print from remote XP machine? describes an original difficulty I had getting remote computers (laptops and desktops) to print to a USB printer connected to my Windows 7 box. Read far enough and you'll see that I solved that problem using Networking issue - Win7 printer, XP remote machines.Fast forward 13 or so months. Since that time I have replaced the printer, I've had a motherboard and processor issue with my box (since fixed), and no interruption of things working as they should. My printer - Canon ip4800 series - is USB hardwired to my Windows 7 computer, and the other home computers - two Windows 7 laptops, an XP box, and an XP netbook - can print to the printer, and view files on my Windows 7 machine, over our wireless home network. And that's been constant through the changes described.
Then yesterday, for no known reason, my daughter's Windows 7 laptop stopped being able to print. She'd send jobs to the correct printer, but they'd just queue up, with the queue visible from her machine, but not when I looked at the printer from my machine (that is looking at the print queue from her machine shows the jobs, but looking at it from mine shows no jobs).Nothing I did would result in stuff from her machine, from any application, to go to the printer.I finally deleted the printer from her machine, figuring I'd just add it back.I try adding a printer to the laptop, it doesn't find the printer on the list of available printers. When I try adding it by typing the name - \mywin7canon ip4800 series - that fails. When I look at "network" from her laptop, my computer shows up, but if I click on it, Windows says it can't connect.
When I type ping her_computer from a DOS box, it can't find it - but when I type ping any_other_computer it finds those. Her laptop can get on the internet from our home wireless network. All the other computers in the house - Windows 7 and XP - can access shared files on my PC, and more importantly, print across the network to my USB printer. Please, patiently and precisely, guide me through stuff to check on my PC and her laptop, to get this working again. I've been through the network and sharing center on my PC and the settings are correct.Again, as it is right now, my printer is not defined on her laptop.Final, cro-magnon- level question here: If I did a system restore on her laptop, back to a point when it had been able to print, might that fix things?
I'm having a hell of a time trying to connect to my shared folders on my Win 7 RC machine from my XP machine. I have my shared folder permissions set to 'full control' for 'everyone'.On my XP machine I click to open my win 7 machine from the workgroup and I get the username/password screen. The username is already filled in like this: WIN7PCjohn. I type my win 7 password for john user account and I get an error that says: \win7pc not accesible. You might not have permission to use this network resource ... multiple connections to a server by same user ... etc.
We have just installed Windows 7 on one of our computers last week and we have 2 other computers that have an XP operating system The XP computers need access to shared folders on the Windows 7 computer and this was working fine yesterday However today it has suddenly stopped. I am getting errors about cannot access this drive etc I have checked up on security settings etc [URL]
I have windows 7, I am trying to configure the WIFI, I have wifi connection which having WEP with shared key authentication, that option I not found in windows 7. I have manually create a new profile and choose shared security option and WEP and I enter the my security key but I was not able to connect with wifi.
I explain how frustrating this has been...Ok, so just a very brief back story, my job has a shared Toshiba file, where all scanned documents, and received faxes can be viewed as PDFs. Everything was fine until my computer (Windows XP) crashed, and I rebooted it with Windows 7. Everything else has been fine, but resetting up this file has been a nightmare. After about 15 calls, someone was finally able to create a folder that worked yesterday, however today it is back to the drawing board. , the folder that was set up was NOT the same one that my co-workers use, which is fine as long as I can access the data, but for whatever reason it is not working...I don't know if it has to do with the network path, the file name, or what.
Now, I am definitely hooked up to the network, and I definitely have network discovery on. Password protect is not on so that anyone can view the shared documents. If it makes any difference, the printer/copier/fax machine/scanner is a Toshiba E-Studio202L machine. When I click homegroup/sharing options, everything is checked off...I really do not know what the problem is, as the documents are just not getting forwarded to my folder (or any folder).
I used to have three partitions: Windows 7, Fedora 12 and a NTFS-Storage-Partition Now I had to reinstall Windows 7, it doesn't see any files on the storage partition; Windows shows the whole rest of the disk including the linux partition as one drive with 7gb of 80gb free, I can also open it but then there is nothing in it... Linux is still working and everything on the storage partition is still there and accessible in linux. do i have to tell windows the partitions or does it have to do a scan or something?
XP SP3 is used. The Simple File Sharing is not enable.Ping from Windows 7 to XP goes through. The same log-on user name and password are used for XP and Windows 7.XP machine is visible from Windows 7.Error message is "Unknown user name or bad password. The same message when attempting to access from another Windows 7.Initially it was working but after an hour or so, it quits. I rebooted the router, XP machine and Windows 7 machine but the situation remains unchanged. There is no problem networking between the two W7s.
I have two networked computers belonging to the same workgroup: one with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit and the other with Windows XP Pro SP3.On the XP computer, I shared a folder allowing only the access to the Administrators group. Now, from Windows 7, I can see this shared folder, but when I try to use it, the no authorization message is displayed. Why the Login window is not displayed?
I have a new HP8710W laptop that originally had Windows XP Professional installed from the factory. I just received my Windows 7 Professional 32 bit upgrade kit and have installed it on my computer
I also have a Desktop PC that is running Windows XP Professional.
Prior to installing Windows 7 on my laptop I was able to see the shared folders on HP8710W laptop while running the Windows XP Professional operating system. I would like to be able to access the shared files on my Desktop computer that is running Windows XP Professional with the HP8710W laptop that is running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I am a novice when it comes to networks and would appreciate any suggestions on what to do to get this to work.
I anticipate installing Windows 7 on my desktop in the near future but have not done the conversion as of this date.
I would appreciate some step by step instructions if they are available and not too much trouble to pass on to me.
I am running a TRENDNET TEW-432BRP wireless router H/W:vDl.OR
