View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a refurbished Sony Vaio PCG-6R3L with Windows 7.Everything was working fine, then I plugged in the USB plug for my wireless keyboard/mouse (Microsoft wireless optical desktop receiver 3.0A)I did not install anything for the keyboard, however windows automatically did something to get the keyboard to work (I think it downloaded the drivers automatically). From the wireless keyboard all the keys type exactly what they are supposed to, that's what I'm using to type this. I've used this keyboard on multiple computers, both with installing the software that came with it, and also just plugging it in, never caused this problem before. When I press and hold the FN key, all the keys type their regular symbol, however once I let go of the FN key they start printing the wrong symbol again.I did all kinds of searching online and went through all of the regional settings and such that I could find, and all the settings I could find were set to "united states english", which is also the only language/keyboard that I saw installed on the computer.

Hope this helps someone else with Wrong Drive Letter Problems
Installed Windows 7 RC and all was well with XP Dual Boot.
After some experimenting(BSD,LINUX,etc), Windows 7 would not boot, so popped in the DVD and let Windows 7 repair the boot.
Windows 7 now booted, but when booting XP on E: , it was now assigned the wrong Drive letter D: and would boot to just before the Logon Prompt and hang(same in safe mode.)
After much research and trial (including editing the HKLM/SYSTEM/MountedDevices hive of the XP install from within Windows 7 to change the drive letter) this was the fix.
This particular XP boots from Partition/Drive E: in Windows.0 directory (yeah, i know, been this way for years)
FIX: (FREE!)
downloaded SavePart "AKA Partition Saving " Partition Saving
Boot from a FreeDOS Floppy or USB stick and run SavePart.exe
within SavePart (navigate with TAB key, Selected items turn BLACK)
Choose:
Update Windows 2000/XP/Vista Registry
then
Choose element where boot configuration are stored (Disk number 0, in this case)
then
Choose element where boot configuration DATA are stored (Partition) where the XP(2000 or Vista) is located
then
Select the Directory where the XP (2000 or Vista) is located (Windows.0 on D Drive, in this case)
You then have access/ability to the change Drive Letters for that particular Windows Installation:
In this case:
Drive D (which needed to be E) and Drive E(which needed to be D)
keyboard keys 1, 2, 3,...0 & shift to get characters above them display wrong characters - the ALL display the same, & it's always the last other key typed.dell inspiron 530 core 2 quad 6600. what caused this: had vista 32 bit home premium, upgraded to 7 home premium. it takes ONLY usb keyboards tried 2 diff ones that work perfectly on my 2 other desktops. what's even more weird, go into ease of access center & put onscreen keyboard up, IT WORKS FINE! in addition, i accessed it through team viewer from my laptop, TYPES THE #'s FINE! i'm very knowledgeable with PC's as i refurb for resale - tried re-installing drivers, triple checked language & regional settings.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything worked great (all same hardware) until I changed from win 7 32bit to 64bit. In normal windows everything is fine, but in Java and Silverlight/WPF programs (including VS2010 and logmein) "sometimes" typing letters will enter numbers in sequence. That is, I type "hello" and "01234" go into the file. But not all the time.I installed latest drivers and tried another keyboard. Same result

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday when I turned on my laptop, suddenly, there was a message that my battery has problems so the computer might shut down suddenly. I tried different strategies, like uninstalling the battery driver, or letting the computer completely die. When it turned off itself at 6%, I turned it back on, and it was at 2 minutes battery life. Then in a few minutes, it said 4 minutes battery life for 6%. Now, it's passed an hour, and it says 3 minutes, but changes sometimes to 1-4 minutes. The battery meter is completely wrong, and I don't know what to do since it is closing the computer way too early. I'm still not sure what the problem is.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHave read and tried everything here to get my Windows 7 PC to access my XP laptop using its name. Have 3 machines. 1 PC ( ip 192.168.0.102) and 2 XP Laptops (say LXP1 and LXP2), one is ...104 the other, the troublesome one, is ...101. If I ping the machine name: ping LXP2. I get the ping returning with the ip address of the PC (...102). If I try to access LXP2 from Windows 7 PC, in Network in explorer - I am asked for the Password for the share. If I use the ip address 192.168.0.101 in the address bar at the top of explorer ( //192.168.0.101), the shares open and I can access the machine correctly.
Why does ping on the Windows 7 PC return the address of the LXP2 laptop as 102 (the PC's address) but the LXP2 laptop IS correctly configured to have an address of 101 and it open on the PC with this address. This looks to me to be the reason that when trying to open the machine name (LXP2) on the PC in Network in explorer, it fails and askes for a password. The other laptop works perfectly every time. And the 2 laptops can 'see' the shares and access them on the PC. Both laptops can see each others shares and can be accessed. Its 'just' the Windows 7 PC to LXP2 access that appears faulty. I tried disabling 'Network Discovery' and that did briefly work. But this morning - its back to its old self again, will only work when using the ip address...
I'm having trouble with my laptop's keyboard, specifically with letter x.I press it once and nothing happens.. but if I immediatly press it again, it writes the letter. This works almost like when you open a folder on the pc. You need to click two times quickly to open it.I tried running the Safe mode and writing and it worked perfectly! At first I thought it was just dirt or a piece of something that was trapped under the x key but I removed it and nothing..

So basically my question is how do i make wei read my ssd instead of my hdd as the primary hard disk like it was before?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my computer I get a bunch of error messages. Multiple things not working. I've seen a few similar issues posted here and I've tried the suggestions but they didn't work. I've tried running maintenance tasks, but they crash in the middle (related to the error messages I think). I also had the problem of whenever I started my computer or opened it, the internet would shut off. My screen would blink off and then on. I've checked for viruses, run multiple anti-spyware, and tried restoring my computer.
