Keyboard Characters Are Mixed Up?
Jun 30, 2012when i press question mark it shows the plus sign and all character functions are mixed up.. i tried pressing the CTRL and SHIFT but no justice.

Sep 16, 2012I've recently had this problem where some keyboard shortcuts aren't working or are performing incorrect functions. For example, ctrl+alt+del does nothing, while ctrl+c, in Chrome, opens up the Chrome Elements tab. In fact, while typing this, my shift key has suddenly stopped working and actually prevents me from typing anything when it is held. I'm using caps lock to type capitals. Actually, it seems that some letters it works fine for (like "A"), but some letters (like "O"), it opens my Chrome bookmarks...and now shift plus C is opening that damn Chrome Elements. Shift i is doing that too.

Oct 31, 2011. My "3edc" keys are typing incorrect characters. They display different items each time I press the keys. I replaced the keyboard and it solved the problem for a few weeks, then the same problem returned. I do not have the original Windows CD. In normal windows everything is fine, but in Java and Silverlight/WPF programs (including VS2010 and logmein) "sometimes" typing letters will enter numbers in sequence. The computer was set up by the store tech who among other things downloaded and installed Window Live Mail now that Outook Express is no more.We are having persistent problems with the keyboard in Live Mail only. If you enclose certain characters in ( ) or " ", you get stupid emoticons or strange letters with peculiar accent marks. The tech came back and checked: the language is set to English/US Canada. He couldn't find the cause. I have read a similar complaint on Microsoft's Vista Forum but didn't see a solution. This is a brand-new computer: why is this happening?

Dec 8, 2009Here's our setup: we have a dual-band router, broadcasting two SSIDs (which are effectively the same network). The 2.4GHz band is using 802.11g only, and the 5GHz band is a mixed 802.11A and N.
My laptop is 'AGN' compatible and connected using 802.11N. The Xbox is connected to the same SSID using 802.11A. However, the problem lies with 2 of the other laptops. Both have 'ABG' network cards, and both can connect to the 802.11G 2.4GHz network without issues, but neither of these laptops will connect to the 5GHz network using 802.11A.
If I change the network settings so that the 5GHz band is A-only, the two laptops in question above connect fine. I can't see what's wrong - both cards are set to a/b/g mode, they all support WPA2.
Is there some sort of bug/feature that prevents connecting to a mixed A/N network?
Note: one laptop is Win 7 Pro, the other is Vista HP.

USB connected 3G/4G internet connectivity when wired lan fails.I have 3 PCs with gigabit Ethernet on board. The fourth one has a 100 mbps Ethernet.Now the question is this. Do all the connected PCs have to have Gigabit Ethernet capabilities to get such speeds or should I get this high speed connectivity between complying PCs?For large file transfers I used to get around 11 to 12 MB transfer rate with a 10/100 ZTE modem /switch / router. This is like saturated 100 mbps connectivity. I am not getting anything close to this with the new router.

Mar 25, 2012I installed Win7 Pro 64bit on my new build and want the new build to have access my HP 6p over my (wired) LAN. The HP 6p is connected to a machine running 32 bit XP Pro. I want to print with the HP 6p from the Win 7 Pro 64bit machine (which will be dual booted with XP Pro 64bit as soon as that OS arrives in the mail), as well as couple of other XP pro 32bit machines, and one oldster still running 2000Pro, on the network. Based on maroxur's advice url.. I've downloaded the HP Universal print drivers (PCL5, PCL6 & PS, all 64bit). I think I will need to use the PS driver because I want to be able to print from Corel Word Perfect and Adobe Pro 7, but am not sure how to load the 64bit PS driver when I can't get the Win7 Pro machine to "see" the HP 6p printer share in the XP Pro machine it's attached to. Logistically, it would be difficult to attach the HP 6p to the Win7 Pro machine, but if that's the only way (or the best way) I could do it if I can find a good USB adapter for my parallel port.My network is a "hub & spoke", from a router, if that makes any difference.
Additionally, I've been reading about the MS/HP "Printer Isolation" protocols url... and think I should probably set up the Win7 Pro machine as the print server and then use the "Isolation mode" mode for all printers in the network, but am not sure. I added the "Print Management" snap in to the MMC, but am not really sure where to go from there.

Oct 3, 2012I work for a small company. We have a workgroup of 5 pc's. Two of them are winXp and the rest Windows 7. I have bought a switch and put them all in one network. I have set some public folders with read/write permissions. Everything fine so far.I can't setup homegroup, as this is a Windows 7 feature, and could probably solve my problem. What I want to do is to password protect, or limit somehow some folders that will be available/ accessible only by some partners. Any ideas or workarrounds? I have downloaded Kakasoft shared folder protector, but it doesn't seem to work so good. I encrypted a couple of folders and after a couple of attempts now I can't open and/or decrypt/restore them..

May 8, 2009I successfully installed Windows 7 RC 7100 as a second OS in addition to XP Pro. I never had Vista, so this system is totally new to me. My questions:
- I have a problem with a correct codepage for non-unicode characters in russian language. In XP there was a special setting that allowed to select the proper language to show non-unicode characters under Regional settings. Will russian LIP or MUI solve this ? BTW, whats the difference between them? If I prefer to have english menus, what do I need to get?
- I installed Windows 7 to the separate drive. During installation I had some known problems with my bad memory sticks and had a BSOD. I changed them and Windows 7 was installed successfully. Now I have to change boot sequence in BIOS to switch between XP and Windows 7. Is it a way to edit boot.ini on XP to include Windows 7?
Special Characters Instead Of Alphabet?
Oct 8, 2011Strange problem about a month ago maybe once every 4 to 10 days the PC boots up and all the characters are strange, instead of the usual alpabet they are spercial characters. I do a system restore and all is fine. If anyone has any thoughts on this as how to solve this short of reloading windows. I included a screen shot to help with understanding what happens.

Mar 23, 2012I have a bunch of documents in a data base, all associated with TIFF images, and all having unique DOCIDs. When I batch-print several of the TIFFs to PDFs, the stupid program, instead of just naming them by their DOCIDs, appends a seven-digit serial number to the DOCID, thus: ABCD0000789 --> ABCD00007891234567.PDF I want to delete those last seven digits before the dot.
I know there are free utilities that make this stuff easy, but I'm at work, where I'm not allowed to install programs; so I have to use native DOS or Windows 7 functions. I'm sure it can be done quickly and easily with the REN command in a DOS window, but I don't know how to identify the last seven digits for REN and tell it to delete them.
Unfortunately, what comes before the last seven digits is variable--it's always some letters followed by some numerals, but the number of each can vary, there might be a hyphen or a space among the letters, and there might be a space between the letters and the numerals; so I can't just tell DOS to delete everything after the first n digits, which I gather would be easier.
Asian Characters Not Consistently Showing?
Jan 30, 2010I have this weird problem where my computer will sometimes show Asian characters (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc.) and sometimes it'll show them as blocks. It's really annoying because I can't see what the song names are in iTunes and some of my folders in Chinese are just blocks. I've already tried installing the language packs but that didn't help. I've also asked this on Microsoft's forum but they didn't help much either. I can see the fonts clearly on webpages and I can type in Chinese perfectly but I can't see the characters in places like folder names, file names, etc. I currently run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
