Internet Explorer "Not Responding" Then BSOD

Mar 23, 2012

while watching a Internet video i suddenly got a garbled screeching sound then some pauses. my mouse then locked up, and i tried ctl/alt/delete to get to the task mgr but could not bring it up. suddenly i then got the blue screen. i have 12 gig memory so i didn't think that was the problem, my memory tested fine with the windows memory tester, and my drivers are updated. i have win 7 64 bit sp 1.

Internet Explorer 8 = Bsod

Jan 14, 2009

first of all i'm not completely sure that it's actually IE that makes the computer go BSOD, since the picture i so blurry that you cant really make anything else out than the colours... but today it has "died" twice, both times while surfing the internet respectively on wikipedia and facebook.

Of course it could also just be laptop giving up, since it is after all almost 3 years old. i don't know if it's of any use for you, but it's a HP Pavillion dv5113eu with the following specs ( completely standard): AMD Mobile Sempron 3000+, 1 GB RAM, ATi Radeon Xpress 200M (128 MB dedicated) and a 60 GB HDD

the installation is completely clean, except that i've installed Office '07 Enterprise, Winamp, Avast and Windows Live Messenger.

[UPDATE!]

I've Found out that the reason for the blackouts appears to be over-heating. even though i still have no idea as to why the BSOD looks strange. will upload pic soon.

BSOD Starting, Playing, Internet Explorer And In Idle. Error 116?

Nov 20, 2011

A couple of months ago, I bought a new graphics card: a Nvidia 560GTX (Gigabyte GV-NV56GOC) and a new PSU (Corsair CX500 V2 Builder Series, 500 W) to run it and after 3 weeks the PC began to fail with the 116 error. At the begining it crashed only at Windows 7 blue starting screen (after the loading screen with win logo and a progress bar). It happened once every 4 or 5 days. After a month it was almost imposible to run unless starting in "FailSafe Mode" and began to crash in the desktop in idle. I tested it with another drivers, clean installs, changing cabes, etc... and nothing worked, only with another graphics card (an old nvidia 220GT wich came with the PC) and worked properly so I decided so send the card in RMA.

A couple of days ago the seller sent me an email saying that they couldn't find any issue with the 560GTX and they sent the card to Gigabyte to further testing (I wil have to wait 20-30 days to have more info). Yesterday my PC with the old card (the 220GT) began to fail while playing Skyrim with a grey screen and a strange buzz in the speakers. After 2 seconds it restarts saying that there was an system error bccode 116. Today it has crashed 4 times in 5 hours while playing (same as yesterday), "youtubbing" or (I think, but not sure than) in idle with a white screen and a strange buzz in the speakers, but not starting like with the 560GTX.

I had to change my HDD a month ago too so I tested in 2 diferent HDDs, drivers are OK and I guess that the PSU is enough for the new card and more than enough with the old one. I also ran sfc.exe /scannow witho no problems.I'm running Windows Home Premium x64 (Service Pack 1) OEM, reinstalled one or 2 months ago. I will attach minidump files with errors of both cards.

Windows Explorer Not Responding

Dec 15, 2011

Intermittenly I get the "windows explorer not responding" this will happen about every 5 minutes for weeks then all of a sudden stop for several weeks. One weird side issue is I have two accounts on my computer, my wifes and mine.At times it will only be occurring on one account or the other. I am back into the phase of it occuring.I checked the "record problem steps" with windows and find this common error each time it occurs.

Windows 7 Explorer Not Responding

I've win 7 ultimate sp1 32 bit this is a different problem than others because most people get 3 options * ie, close, restart, wait but in my case the windows explorer stops responding at awkward places like when i open my computer , open a folder or i'm just at the desktop..just a pop up that explorer has stooped working & IT RESTARTS AUTOMATICALLY WITHOUT GIVING THE 3 OPTIONS *MENTIONED ABOVE.I've tried everything like formatting , chkdsk/f , chkdsk/f/r , defragmenting , wiping the hdd, registry fix/defragment, virus / any ware scan with an updated anti virus...i even formatted & reinstalled the OS but i still get this problem.

This only happens when I am going through the control panel. Here is what happens:If I have to uninstall a program, I will go to programs and features and click programs and features and explorer will just freeze then if I keep clicking, I get "This program is unresponsive - Close, Restart, etc" I always choose restart it and it reloads fine. The same things happens if I go to System or pretty much anything in the control panel.

Windows Explorer Not Responding - How To Determine Cause

May 21, 2011

My Windows Explorer keep "not responding" everytime I boot up my computer and click "My Computer" icon. This happen after I install Auslogics Boostspeed and Wintools.net. I have uninstalled both software but the problem still there. I end the process (explorer.exe)via Task Manager and re-run explorer. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it doesn't, or need to re-run the process to make it work.

Then, I switch to Safe Mode. Windows Explorer runs fine. Now, I know something that is running on "services.msc" cause the Windows Explorer to crashed. I downloaded SlimComputer from Softpedia.com and run its Optimizer. I set it to SuperCharged and some of the services changed to manual. I restart my computer and the problem solve. I change the setting again to its original, the problem appear again, then change to SuperCharged back, the problem fixed. How to determine which process/services is causing the Windows Explorer to crashed?

Windows Explorer Stops Responding?

Jan 2, 2013

Ive been having computer issues lately (maybe a virus) so I reinstalled the OS and put Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 on as my AV (Norton last time). But the problem is that my Windows Explorer stops responding. For example: I go into my pictures and that loads fine but when I go to open a photo it loads and for a minute and finally comes up. That never used to happen before I reinstalled my OS. Im positive I did it right. Though when I try to close the window it says the Explorer has stopped responding.

No Programs Responding - Cannot Even Open Windows Explorer

Mar 27, 2012

I just started up my Laptop (Sony Vaio 2.6GHz | 4GB RAM | ATI Radeon | Windows 7 Home Premium) and none of the programs on my laptop are responding when I click on them to start them. Not even Windows Explorer opens. Nothing responds. I can open the windows start button, but that is about it. The PC is still under warranty, so it's quite new (4months). I also take great care of it, I do not load all sorts of crap on it. Only the essentials.

It all started yesterday, when my PC became really slow and I had to restart it, where it literally took 10 minutes too shut down (NO windows updates being installed...). I restarted it, ran a check disc for bad sectors, and it found none. Only a few bad clusters. I also ran - sfc /scannow command in cmd. However, when I open some of the programs (non windows system programs such as explorer and task manager), it gives me the following error: "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

Windows Explorer Is Not Responding / When Try To Erase DVD-rw Discs

Sep 23, 2011

Half of the time when I try to use a RW disc more than once. In other words erase the disc to burn something new to it. Windows explorer (not responding error) is in a malfunction loop. Also during this occurrence the dvd is rendered useless for future use. These discs are new and clean with no scratches. I bought two dvd multi drives. They are identical and installed drive D: & E:. Purchased at newegg, they are sold as Liteon brand. Software identifies them as ATAPI iHAS124 B. I have thought about downloading new drivers however I have had some trouble identifying this model on Liteon's website. The other half of the time I attempt to use my DVD-RW's the event is successful.

Windows 7 Explorer Not Responding, Disables Wireless Adapter?

When it does, I can restart windows explorer and it always says "windows is checking for a solution" but never finds anything. Whenever this happens, which can be as often as every 5 minutes, it inexplicably disables my wireless adapter (belkin wireless g usb) which occasionally decides to not respond and not turn back on

Windows Explorer Freezes - Browser Stops Responding

Aug 14, 2012

For the past 2 days, whenever I have used Mozilla firefox 12.0, after sometime, the browser hangs up and it tells that the browser has stopped responding. The same time, windows explorer also hangs and freezes soon. I will have to restart and then same thing happens again. I tried Chrome also, but the result was same. the browser freezes, and soon after explorer also freezes. I have also noticed that the disk space in the C drive is also getting reduced. In one day 5gb of space has been added up. I have installed and tested with windirstat. Now even the yahoo messenger freezes (not responding) every time and other applications too. I have scanned with MAlwarebytes and Security essential and could not find any infection. For the past 3 days, I can't watch flash videos in Mozilla. Today, several time the same thing happened to chrome also and it says the player crashed.

Programs / Windows Explorer Stop Responding Whenever Click To Print

Aug 26, 2011

A colleague of mine using the 64bit version of Windows 7 Enterprise has been having this problem for the past day or so. No matter what program he's using, as soon as he clicks print, the program stops responding. This even happens if you try to print a test page - Windows Explorer stops responding. It's not printer specific, since this happens before you have the option to select a printer (and he has several, one local printer and a few network printers). I've tried running the troubleshooting tool, but all that does is restart the print spooler, which doesn't stop the problem.

Windows 7 Explorer Is Not Responding, Blue Circle Endlessly Rotating?

Nov 26, 2011

There is a perhaps related post four weeks ago, to which there have been no replies. I open Windows Explorer, and highlight a folder. Then hit the DELETE key. The little blue circle icon shows the light chasing its tail endlessly. Task Manager indicates "not responding" and when I hit the white X on red "close" button in upper right corner, I get an error window that says the same thing. There is only a single thumbnail.info file in the folder. If I try to click on another folder, the screen goes gray. This happens only recently, not previously.

Can't Connect To The Internet - DNS Is Not Responding

Sep 28, 2012

I cannot connect to the Internet and Windows Network Diagnostics says that the DNS sever is not responding. I have it set to obtain an IP address and a DNS server automatically... Still doesn't work. Also, this happened when I had an iPad in transferring music, and I unplugged my Internet wireless adapter and plugged it into a different USB port, or at least I think that is when it happened. At any rate I got a message saying something about an IP address conflict which I did not pay much attention to.One other detail is that it is not just my computer that can't connect. My iPhone and my friends iPad that I had plugged in so I could transfer music from my iTunes to his iPad cannot connect either..

I went online on another laptop and started looking for solutions. I tried the stuff like ipconfig /renew and those commands. I tried disabling a virtual adapter to no avail. I also tried re-configuring the dns settings on my laptop. None of this has worked for me.

PC Stops Responding, No BSOD?

Jun 24, 2012

My PC has recently stopped responding completely at times. Even Ctrl Alt Del doesn't bring up the usual menu, and I have to use the power button to reboot. There is no BSOD, but windows prompts me to choose between normal boot and safe mode when I reboot. The issue arises regardless of what I'm doing; it has occured when I'm gaming, or just surfing the internet. Running system restore to a restore point before the most recent updates from windows doesn't seem to fix the issue. The PC is about 1 year old. It's running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium, installed with an OEM disc on a custom system. Using a P67A-UD3-B3 motherboard and i5-2400 processor.
