Dec 16, 2012 my friends laptop (which has different specs from that one, a 2,4ghz dual core, a 9M series GPU and 4gb RAM) started getting this SMART event ocurred thing like 3 years ago. So, being a dumba** back then, I thought formatting/reinstalling OS would solve the problem. So I did. Installed Windows 7 HP x86, used Driver Genius to install all drivers and SURPRISE the error was still there. So he kept the computer as it was, and surprisingly it survived all these years. Nothing happened really, he just used his laptop for his usual stuff with no problems whatsoever...weird.
But just recently he asked me to install Windows 7 HP x64, so he could use Sony Vegas Pro 12 (for some reason, Vegas 12 only exists for x64...and if there is a x86 I can't find it). So I did, and installed it...and then the problems started. The laptop is now crashing frequently, recovering from it in like 20 seconds every time. It works I guess, and you can copy around and mess with stuff on the computer, but after awhile it eventually crashes for 15-20 seconds. I have no idea why this is happening, and only then I thought of his SMART event error so I downloaded WD diagnostic tool, clicked the "view SMART data" button and everythin was right except for "re-allocated sector count" which was 117 at value, 117 at worst and 140 at threshold...could this last formatting fried his hard drive for good?
His warranty was gone even before he ever had the SMART event, he has the laptop for like 5 years now. Is it because of the x64 windows. Is there a logical reason for it not work properly on this laptop? Or was the excessive formatting that damaged the hard drive for good?
Windows 7 Professional Install With Intel Smart Response?
Oct 19, 2012I am trying to do a clean install of Win 7 Pro on a new Dell XPS. My laptop came with a 32gb mSATA drive and I want to keep the Intel Smart Reponse activated. Whenever I try to do a clean install with the SATA operation set to "Intel Smart Reponse" in the BIOS, it does not find any disks to install the software too. When I try to load a driver for the drivers, it says no signed drivers were found. I was able to install the Win 7 Pro with the sata operation set to AHCI, but that won't let me enable smart response.

Dec 18, 2009I recently upgraded from Vista to 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a month-old machine. The computer has been running 7 for several weeks, and this error just showed up within the last couple of days.
When I go to shutdown or restart, I get a screen that says Waiting for background processes to close. The screen is only up for maybe a second, with no list of what process needs to close. Then Windows shuts down normally.
I went through msconfig and determined that the RAID event monitor is the program causing the hangup. What does this mean? Has anyone else encountered problems with this? Is there any way to fix it other than just disabling the program in msconfig?
Can't Install Windows 7 In Raid For SSD Caching (Intel SRT)

I'm trying to install Windows from a Mesh OEM disk but when it gets to the installation completion window an error pops up saying ''Windows setup could not configure windows on this computers hardware''.Windows installs fine under IDE/AHCI controller but that doesn't help me!

Mar 23, 2011I am going to be getting 2 new WD10EALS drives in the next day or so. My plan was to put them in raid using the onboard ICH10R controller on my mobo (an ASUS Sabertooth X58). I had wanted to run WDTLER to turn TLER on, but after reading some reviews it seems I might not be able to as it is reported WD disabled TLER on these drives completely.
Im curious if there is a way to change the timeout for the drives in the matrix storage controller? So if I do have an issue my raid won't die (I'll be using these drives in raid 0 for gaming only). I dont care about the data, I just don't want to have to go thru the hassle of reinstalling the games should a drive get dropped from the array. I am thinking about getting a wd green 2tb drive for backups but just curious if there is a way to change timeout via the controller.
edit: And by change timeout I mean how long the controller waits for the disk before dropping it from the array, like could i set it too 2.5 mins just to be sure?
How To Enable RAID On Intel Chipset On Existing Windows 7 X64
Jun 2, 2011I have a problem with migration from AHCI to RAID on existing win 7 x64. I had AHCI HDD connected to marvell SATA 6gbit controller. I wanted to create RAID 0 on intel controller (ICH10) I created hdd image in acronis. Enabled RAID in bios and Created RAID 0 disk (2 x hdd) Restored from image to new raid hdd . When I try to boot win i get blue screen . error 0x0000007B ( so win cant recognize hdd)When I boot from win CD installer have access to raid disk what shall I do? I my opinion system doesn't have access to raid drivers. (maybe missing registry entries) i system32/drivers i have file iastor.sys but probably there is no registry entries how to add registry entries to system? How can I boot system??? ( in rescue mode windows also doesn't start)

Jan 24, 2012Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Trouble is, I am still getting the WHEA-Logger event errors in Windows Event Viewer ('processor core') and wondered if this was not in regards to overheating after all?The plus side is my laptop is now almost totally silent - the way it must have been when I bought it new 3 years ago! System Keeps Restarting Event Log: Critical Error - Event ID 41

Computer rarely restarts during the time I am using it. It restarts if I leave stuff downloading overnight or if I leave on during the day. I then have to re-install any software I installed the previous time because it says it was shutdown improperly ( CRASHED).
I then check the Event logger and see it has multiple crash reports.

Windows 7 Raid 0 Setup / Missing Raid Controller Driver
Nov 19, 2011Installed a new M4 ssd today and loaded windows on it. Previously i was using 2 raptors in raid 0 for the os and programs. I re raided the 2 raptors and connected them to the jmicron ports and set them up for raid in bios, then created the raid 0 array no prob. Windows doesnt see the array when loaded up and i have the latest rst drivers installed..did this prior to the os install on the ssd. using the x58 e760a1 mobo. under device manager, the raid controller has an exclamation mark and no driver installed yet i have the latest rst 10.8.0.1003 installed..

Jul 10, 2012I have Win 7 Pro 64 bit installed on an ASUS P7P55D LE motherboard which supports RAID 0,1,5 and 10 using Intel Matrix Storage Technology through an on board Intel P55 chip set. The system was assembled in Nov 2009 using two Western Digital Caviar Black 750Gb drives in RAID 1 as Drive C:. (I now know from Western Digital Customer Service that I shouldnt have done that, but lets move on from there). Last December, an error message informed me the RAID array was broken and identified one of the 750 Mb drives as needing replacement. I happened to have a spare 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black at the time, so I pulled the 750Mb drive and replaced it with the 1.5Tb drive. Life was once again good. Then on July 4th (wouldnt you know) there was a repeat of the December 2011 error message telling me to replace the other original 750Gb drive. Okay so I had another 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black laying around (dont ask) and did a similar swap out. Thats when I emailed WD Customer Support asking about the 750 since their diagnostic software said the drives were fine. Thats when I learned that I should be paying lots more for enterprise quality drives if I want/need RAID. Well thats not what ASUS says in their advertising, but live and learn. All thats prologue, because my real question is whether its possible to break the hardware-based RAID 1 array and set up a Windows 7-based RAID 1 with the two 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black drives without having to reinstall Windows 7.

Jan 6, 2009anyways, my main drive is a RAID 0 with Vista x64, but I have a second HD that is a SATA 250GB, which I installed Windows 7 on. The only way I could get install to work was to switch my BIOS to IDE mode rather than RAID. I would of course though, like to be able to access my Vista drive from Windows 7 (and more importantly, not have to switch between IDE/RAID mode at all in the BIOS, it's a pain).
Now, the one odd this about this all is that the drivers I have for Vista (x86/x64 drivers) for this mobo's RAID controller WORK when loaded on installation to identify and install to the drive, but seem to not load or not work in any way once the first reboot on install occurs. Maybe this is because I installed from within Vista x64, though.
(Incedentally, my motherboard is an M3A Asus, using ATI's SB600 for a RAID controller)
I've tried loading the drivers from within Windows 7 while in IDE mode, but the install program won't let me. At first it didn't allow because of version restrictions, but then I altered the ini file to get around that, but it encounters some sort of error when installing and quits.
Any help that can be offered, would be grateful. I realise it's a beta and not a real release, so I can get past the BSOD from my odd setup, and I really am enjoying playing around with it so far. Very very impressed.
Edit: Just in case anyone thinks of suggesting me to right-click the inf file and install that way, already tried, won't allow for it.
Event 100 And Event 200 Stuck At Welcome?
Oct 6, 2011Just installed Windows 7 fresh on a new intel 320m 160gb. After i type in my password at the login screen windows hangs for about 15 - 20 seconds on welcome with the moving circle. Total boot time is about 40 - 50 seconds. I've checked the event log and an event 100 and event 200 show up at every boot and shut down but it does not tell me what process is causing this. I've tried a clean re install of windows 7 with a non sp1 and an sp1 disk and get the same results. I used windows boot or starup repair and it said something about an audio device? So i unplugged my Asus xonar but im still getting the same hang time on welcome. So far nothing is plugged in the computer except for mouse keyboard monitor and ethernet cable. I'm on a home network with one computer.The setup is gigabyte z68x ud3h b3 G skill 16gb ram or now 8corsair 800ax psui7 2600kgtx560I've installed plenty of windows 7 on many intel ssd's (mainly x25 m) and this is the first time ive seen this slow of a boot time and its especially odd that it gets hung up on the welcome screen. Jan 1, 2013See, I have a AM3+ motherboard, and currently a FX 6200 clocked at 4.2GHz, thing is, I feel when I try to play say BF3 on a 32 man server, My pc run's smooth, yet come to a 64 man server, My PC feels sluggish and well fails. Now I know Its going to effect my FPS and CPU usage with what settings in game am I running, well Ultra I don't use I mainly use a mix of medium and high, to Me its all about performance before eye candy, but BF3 seems to have no performance boost the lower I turn the settings down, I mean with one card I get 98-99% usage but in SLI I get 50% on each card with v sync disabled and on ultra I have even tried with settings on low and enabling v sync, lol that is just worse! I have been told the higher the settings, the higher the usage, and my cpu seems to be lagging behind.I know there is things to take into consideration like the Ram, Graphics, Hard drives, Lag ect, But I'm running two GTX 480's, 2 Velociraptor Hdd, 16GB Corsair Dominator Ram, a Corsair HX 1050w psu and Windows 8.Come January I'm planning a upgrade, but what My dilemma is should I move to Intel has I feel my issue is a major bottleneck with the 480's and my CPU, I don't want to buy a 200 cpu (8350) and a few months down the line have to invest in a Intel because the Pile driver has failed like the Bulldozer did! Or just upgrade to a Intel i5 or i7, I mainly game but do video work as well, even considering getting a i7 2600k or 2700k,

Dec 18, 2012if this hdd smart error C8H is a serious one? i can find only litle details on this. I'd like to know this as i bought an old IDE laptop drive for a pentium 4 era laptop that needed a slight upgrade, then one day i discovered this error while just playing around with the laptop, there's 19 errors of this so far and i don't even know what it does, the hd however works just fine except for that error, no surface problems or anything.
