View 1 Replies View Relateduse to stop windows 7 from auto installing sound drivers. I have Realteck onboard audio on my Asrock 890 Deluxe Am3 motherboard. And have ATI catalyst for my ATI video Cards (crossfired) . I want to use Realteck as my for default sound, so when I go to device manager and uninstall the ati hd audio drivers they get deleted, but when I reboot my pc windows 7 reinstalls the ati hd drivers. How can I stop windows 7 from reinstalling the ati hd drivers. The reason I don't want two well really three sets of audio drivers because the cards are crossfired windows 7 is installing two sets of ati hd sound drivers one for each video card and the Realteck drivers, is because windows 7 is crashing when gaming and I think the sound drivers are conflicting and causing the crashes
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I plug any USB mouse in, Windows 7 installs the HID Compliant Mouse drivers, but it also installs them as HID Compliant Keyboard at the same time. This is causing problems where all mouses stop working until reboot. The biggest problem is that after I uninstall the HID Compliant Keyboard from Device Manager, windows will automatically re-install it at seemingly random intervals.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a SSD, installed it, installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Got into windows and everything was fantastic. Installed all the windows updates, video card drivers, ect... Then rebooted the computer and lo and behold, it doesn't recognize the SSD as a valid boot device anymore. Assuming that the install corrupted somehow, I decided to run startup repair on the Windows 7 disk. However once the disk gets past "Windows is loading files" all the lights on my mouse and keyboard shut off and they stop working. However up until that point they work fine, if I go into BIOS they work no problem. I have no idea what the issue is... I literally JUST used this same disk to install windows 7 and had no issues less than 30 minutes ago... The only advice I've been able to find thus far has been to ensure that legacy USB settings are enabled, and they are. Also, if I boot into windows on a different drive that has the OS installed my mouse and keyboard work just fine in windows as well. As it stands now I cannot fix my windows install or even reinstall windows...However up until that point they work fine, if I go into BIOS they work no problem. I have no idea what the issue is..

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow can I get Windows 7 to name copied files using the scheme "Copy of" (used in Windows XP and earlier) instead of the default scheme "- Copy", whenever a file is copied to the same directory as the original file?In other words, if you copy a file named "Foo.txt" in a directory to the same directory, Windows XP would have named that file "Copy of Foo.txt", but Windows 7 names the file "Foo - Copy.txt". I want the copy to be named "Copy of Foo.txt".There are several reasons why I prefer the XP style file name:
1. It is familiar :-)
2. I have existing files that use the XP style file names, and I want all my file copies to use the same naming scheme. I guess I can do a massive file rename across all my backups, but that would solve only one of my problems.
3. Most of my folders are sorted by name, and using XP style would sort all copies together. On other forums it has been suggested that one can simply sort by date (to get the copies sorted together), but that advice assumes that all copies are created after all other files are created, which is actually not often the case.
4. I often work with long file names, which means that the end of the file name is often obscured, unless I have wide windows (not always possible) and use lots of horizontal scrolling every time I want to select a file. Hovering over a file to get its full name is a cumbersome solution.
5. On other forums some have given the advice to always make copies in subfolders, but I often make copies or copies of copies while I work (it allows me to roll back or to check earlier versions of a file quickly, during my work), and using subfolders would slow me down tremendously (not to mention confuse me).
I know that when TeraCopy is made the copy handler, it renames files in a different way than Windows 7 does, though unfortunately not the way Windows XP did it. Also, if one installs a third-party directory program such as Opus, it asks for a file name every time a copy is made, but I need something that simply names the file correctly immediately.
I'm trying to copy a series of files from my old XP machine to the new Win 7 machine. I've turned off User access control, I made myself the owner of the machine, etc., the files on the old machine have no permissions preventing the copying. I am the owner of both machines and there is no firewall blocking the files. About every third or fourth file says I need admin permission to copy it. But I can't figure out how to give myself this permission. Out of 400 in the folder, 296 copied over, the remainer did not. These are not executables, they are machine embroidery files with the file extension ".pes". This is just the first folder I need to copy. I have almost 100,000 of these files that have to be copied and can't afford to lose any.
I can't find anything online that relates to this kind of issue. How do I clear this out so I can get these files copied to the new machine? what criteria Win 7 uses to determine which files it will copy and which require admin permission. Is it the length of the file name? Characters in the filename? The name of the folder they are going into? I would sure hate to have to rename 100,000 files.
I own a WD Passport (320GB). I'm having problems in copying files from my PC to the HDD. It was working fine a few days ago but I can't seem to copy any file though I can easily read the files stored at a very high speed. But the problem is probably with my computer since I can copy files from my laptop without an itch.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi installed windows 7 pro x64 recently. i'm in the process of copying my own old windows xp files, as well as copying the backed up windows xp files from my friend's installation that were in my old hard drive. i've been battling windows 7 with permissions left and right to copy the remaining files. i'm trying to delete my old windows installation folder. there's a file in sytem32 that's preventing me from deleting. i've established ownership, i've changed it so i have fullprivileges, i've changed it to enable sharing, disable sharing, i have UAC down to medium, still keep getting you need permissions and the try again message, and no matter how many times i click on try again it comes back up.
now this is also happening when trying to copy files from my friend's old installation to my portable hard drive. we're talking about movie files, folders, documents, etc. still keep getting permission requests and no matter how i go about it, it keeps asking again and again and the files never copy. i thought maybe if i renamed the documents and settings folder that i'm grabbing them from, but that made no difference.it is so difficult to enjoy this new windows when at every step there is some assinine feature like this!

I wish they' would have left things alone with the networking like win2k. Also, quick note, the workgroup name and the network name are the same.

I was looking at the Dell Inspiron Zino HD to replace the full tower PC in my living room that has lower specs. Right now my living room PC is running Ubuntu 9.04 with Boxee so if I did order the Zino HD I would install Ubuntu on it and not need Windows.
My question is can I take the copy of windows that comes with the Zino HD and give it to my sister to put on her PC? Right now she has XP(was running Vista but she downgraded). Also, her computer is not a Dell, if that matters. It does have a 64 bit Intel chip though, so would I need to order a 64 bit version of Windows 7 with my Zino HD?
I haven't called Dell to see if I can get a Zino HD OSless but that is always a hassle and my sister could use a copy of Windows 7.
If it is possible do I call Microsoft right away to deactivate it or can I just give her the CDs to my sister and install and activate on her computer? Also, do I need to get Ultimate with my Zino HD to have it work or can I do it with the cheapest version that has 64 bit?
I have a Linksys WUSB600N wireless network adapter. I used it in Vista using Linksys's driver for it, and it worked great. Now Windows 7 has installed it's own driver for it and... well, the driver sucks. Frequent connection drops, bad signal strength, etc etc. I've been trying to uninstall the driver Windows installed and get the Linksys one, but no matter what I do it always reinstalls the driver as soon as it detects the device again after I uninstall it.
I've searched around this forum and tried many things... setting Windows Update not to automatically install drivers, using safe mode, etc etc, nothing works. Windows is being particularly stubborn about wanting to install it's own horrible driver.
I believe I have a unique trouble with my network adapter. It is installing every single time that windows starts, always behaving as a different piece of hardware thus driver is named like: "Atheros (...) Ethernet Controller #151" and increasing and what more, still having different MAC address. My problem is that my (legal) Windows (Win 7 Home Premium 64bit) after few startups starts thinking he is illegal every time I activate it by phone. I am beginning to be desperate about this. Over time I was thinking about several solutions to this but I am not capable of executing them alone. Two examples:
1.) One possibility is disabling automatic driver installation but in tutorials and forums it is done through pgedit.msc that is absent on Home Premium
2.) Disabling my network card completely (or removing it from my laptop) is also a way because I am using only wifi, but I havent found any way how to do it
... Network card is probably broken, so sending my nb to service could also work, but it is quite inconvenient considering time and money thrown away, i dont prefer this option
I recently installed SP1 on my Windows 7 x64 system and I am now having trouble with some USB devices, specifically an external USB drive. The drive is a 500 GB Seagate connected via USB. My system is an i7 920 on an ASUS motherboard w/ 24 GB RAM.I have a backup program that runs every night and backs up to the USB hard drive. I've been using this setup for a couple years on Vista then Win 7 and it was working fine.
After installing SP1, though, some of my other USB devices quit working every time the backup starts. For example, when the backup kicks in, my keyboard might stop working. Or my mouse. Or some other USB device. So I have to unplug the affected device then plug it in again - after that it works fine again. Well, until the next time the backup runs...It doesn't happen every time the backup runs (maybe 80% of the time) and it's not always the same device(s) that quit working. As I said, sometimes it's the keyboard, sometimes the mouse, sometimes both, etc. The same problem also occurs sometimes when I plug in my iPod.
As I mentioned, I never had this problem until I installed SP1 so it has something to do with that update.
I bought 2 different bluetooth dongles that are allegedly windows 7 compatible.I install them and it seems to work momentarily before the drivers that come with the device are replaced by the generic bluetooth drivers.Would someone suggest a solution to preventing the Microsoft drivers from replacing the drivers that the dongle installs?
