I have recently purchased a custom built PC from a company and I have included in it an SSD for the operating system and programs, and a 1TB HDD for storage both are brand new with no data installed. Once I receive the PC I will be installing my own copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I have read on a number of forums that I need to unplug the HDD before completing the clean install of Windows 7 onto the SSD otherwise the boot partition will install onto the HDD if I keep it plugged in. I cant find any user guides/videos tutorials for this situation so would appreciate it if someone could confirm if its best to disconnect the HDD as I dont want to start taking the side of the case and unplugging the HDD if its not required.
I have not been able to find a straight answer for. Is it legal to buy a pre-built computer store bought and remove the hard drive with windows 7 already on it and put it into a custom built computer? Does it even work? I was wondering because I don't want to pay 200+ dollars for just a hard drive and operating system. kinda ruins the whole idea of a "budget" build.
Packard bell PC imedia something, radeon sapphire 5670 HD GPU upgrade, recent (Jan 2012) windows 7 64 bit custom install upgrade from vista 32 bit, during which I backed up all files on a Samsung external hard drive, then did a complete hard drive wipe install of windows 7, then put it all back on using software run by the Samsung drive. Went perfectly as planned. Other than that the PC was stock. One day playing Cod 8, screen inputs failed, then keyboard failed, then funny smell from PC tower, so I switched it off. After analysis, showed to be PSU fail. I took the opportunity to build a better PC, as this one is quite a few years old now.
So I only used the hard drive (WD6400AAKS) Blu ray reader disk drive, memory card reader drive and Radeon GPU from the old PC ASUS P8Z68-V LX mobo Overclocked intel i5 processor with artic cooling freezer 13 CPU fan Corsair TX650 PSU Antec DF-30 case with 4 led fans
All cables and such are new, and all plugged in correctly. When turned on the first time, all fans on, leds, and everything started as it should have, but No beep, monitor came on, instead of showing initial boot screen, asus version came up, then tried to boots windows, then just as the circles begging to circle the logo, it crashes, screen turns off, then on again, then back to asus screen, the windows screen crashes like before, then asks me to do startup repair or start as normally - No other options.
Every time I do this, it says it couldn't solve the problem, and restarts, then crashes, then restarts, then goes to startup repair option again. If I select start as normally, it just crashes again like before then loops back to startup repair option again. I have tried all options possible after the startup repair fails, including command prompt stuff, system restores, image restores, hardware diagnostics, basically everything. It either fails, then goes back to the startup repair loop, or tells me there are no problems with the hardware, then goes back to the startup repair loop.
I think my hard drive is corrupt, but signs have led me to believe its not completely corrupt - like it will see all the places and times on my hard drive to use when I select system restore, however after a fair time of trying each time, and with multiple possible restore points, it fails every time. I think all the other hardware is fine, and working as it should. I think some of the windows system files were damaged when the old PC's PSU blew while playing COD (it usually handles COD fine).
I'm getting a kernel data inpage error BSOD on windows 7 ultimate x64. It seems to happen randomly regardless of activity (idle, gaming, video playback) and I'm having trouble finding the cause. The computer will not save dump files. So I've attached a picture of the BSOD, and an event viewer log.
i have just built my computer it has the following:
NVIDIA GTX 550TI, H61M-D2-B3 MOTHER BOARD INTEL 3I 2120 CHIP 500GB SATA II WESTAN DIGITAL 16MG 7200G/S wd5000aakx 8GB RAM lg gh24ns90 dvd rewriter
the problem is that im trying to install windows 7 onto the computer using a windows 7 disk but when the page asking me what to save the installation to, the partition list is blank. and it says that i need to install the drivers im guessing my hdd should come up on the list but it doesnt in both custom install and the advanced install, my hdd comes up on BIOS as fully working i have tried installing drivers for my motherboard during install page but it doesnt notice the install disc which came with the mother board, i have also downloaded a new driver for the motherboard on a different disk but the same thing comes up
I finished building a new computer today and everything was working fine, but when I select the custom/new installation of Windows 7, it brings me to a screen that claims Disk 0 Partition 1 is 2048 GB and OEM reserved. I've never done this before, so it's entirely possible that I'm missing something obvious, but given that the hard drive is only 1.5 TB it seems like something has to be wrong here. Is there a way for me to either safely delete that entire partition or to partition it into something I could actually install to?
I just finished building my first computer and I plan on using my HDTV as a monitor. The problem is that windows 7 is having trouble installing. Whenever it boots is goes through the loading page and the "starting windows" page but when it gets to the choosing language, country, etc.screen it freezes and my keyboard and mouse are none responsive.I can enter the BIOS just fine and my keyboard and mouse work there.I think the problem might be related to resolution as I am using my HDTV. But I don't know why it would wait until that spot to stop working. Plus, I don't have a monitor to connect it to to fix the resolution. [code]
i have just assembled a new computer, and i am attempting to perform a custom install of windows 7. however, i am getting an error message saying that no drives were found. i have a brand new seagate 7200.12, which shows up in the bios and will pass tests in SeaTools.
I've just finished my brand new build and am now ready to install Windows 7.
However when I load the disk select custom install and its asks me to select where I want the OS to be installed, I get an error message saying it cant find my HDD and I need to select the appropriate drivers.
I can see my Hitachi 500Gb in the BIOS, I have tried ATHC and IDT settings but still wont work. I have tried factory default setting in the BIOS but still Win7 cannot pick up my HDD.
The LED is flashing also to note that the Drive is working. Also Win7 wont let me format the disk either.

The wireless adapter does NOT appear in ipconfig! but Ethernet does.Ethernet works properly.Unable to rollback/system restore as all deleted (don't know how or why). There is no wireless connectivity and with a USB wireless adapter the same problem. Hardware installs and says working OK, but unable to connect to wireless also.
Ipconfig is:

It is a new build and it runs fine with 2Gb of memory installed, but as soon as i insert a second memory stick it goes through BIOS and 2-5 seconds of the Windows Logo before a bluescreen flashes by and the screen goes black. It will reboot and perform a Windows repair but with the same result. Same thing happens if I install my graphics card.
since running on 2Gb of memory and on-board graphics isn't my plan
I'm not sure where online to go (what forum) to ask this question, so I will just start here.I build and sell PC's to small businesses. Well configured systems. No junk. I use as much free software as possible. Liscenses permitting. Quality software.I want to make a master system(s), just one master if possible. Windows 7 with all the apps, ready to go. I want to migrate this master(s) to other PC's.Supplying new license keys when needed.Worst case scneario, dis-similar hardware.
I'm running 32-bit build 7231 and want to upgrade to 7260. Yeah, I know that a clean install is preferred, but I want to test out the upgrade instead.
When I go to install it from the existing build, it complains about the version. So, I went into the cversion.ini file and change MinClient to 7000, thinking that would fix it. But it still complains.
So, is there more to it than that? OR is it that this build simply can't be installed as an upgrade?
My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?
I am currently running OS 7 Beta RC Build 7100. Were do I get this newer version, is there a big difference? And am I able to upgrade to the newer Beta?
I realize that October is fast approaching for the RTM but I plan to keep running the Beta for a couple of months past the Grand Opening.
Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?
Resently I built a custom computer. I assembled it and it all looked good... but as it got to the startup of windows 7, just past the "starting windows" part, it reboots. Then I wanted to install windows 7 again to see if it would help. But when it gets to the "Starting windows" part, it stays there. I've tried countless things including: Testing the RAM, Changing the PSU, getting another windows 7 install disk, shifting the GPU. But none have worked the least.
was wondering if the custom installation option would delete my files that are located on hard drive D, I know that it would totally wipe out C but does the same happen to the other hard drives ,cuz I really have a lot of files and their size is more than 100gb :/ how many usb's am I gonna need for this, it's impossible
ive searched a lot in google and had not found any answers..My problem is some Custom Sounds are not working..for example, ive customized Minimize event and change it to an existing Windows Default sound, i press PLAY and its working, hit APPLY then OK..but its not working..tried it on other events, and still does not work, the other thing i noticed isi cant UNCHECK the option "Play Windows Startup Sound" (its greyed out)I've modified imageres.dll (mainly because of my theme) had edited on my own and had not touch on the wav files.
I want to create a utility software where i can create my own custom commands like copy, rename, move, delete etc. But i don't have any idea how shouldWhich language i should use to create it?OS Platform : Windows 7
What I am wanting to do is a custom install of Windows 7 Premium. I'm really no expert on all things Windows, but I have felt for a long time that simply installing Windows from the cd / dvd is not really the most efficient and "power user" way of doing things. I feel that in doing an install from cd / dvd that lots of things are added that are not needed, and that I do not have the kind of control over my operating system (where things go, etc.) that I could have.
I currently have windows vista home premium 64 bit installed, can i do a custom install of windows 7 professional 64 bit, or do I need to do a clean install?
So, I would like to make a custom windows 7 professional installation disc.I would like the installation of:Vlc playeruTorrent.Google chrome browser.Ccleaner.Defraggler.nd remove unnecessary programs / functions of the Windows installation disc. So, what I need to do to make these things succeed?
am a windows 7 user . i would like to use a basic and high contrast theme . unfortunately , i cant do it . i don't even know my computer is getting a virus or bug , i cant change my window color for high contrast color . i can just put a custom color which i am not interested .
But I'm not entirely sure if it can do one of the primary things I would like to use it for. I know it has a plethora of short-cut keys intended for gaming (12 near the thumb and 5 others spread along the mouse). What I would like to do is find a way to program these keys to do things outside of gaming. I do play games, so they will be used for their original purpose, but I would like to use the mouse as a remote control. For example, when I play music in iTunes, or movies in VLC, I would love to program some of the shortcut keys to work as volume, play/pause, fast-forward/rewind keys. That way I could sit back on my couch and use the mouse like a real remote.I've tried to Google information on how the mouse works, but every source/review site I find only presents the basics that are written on the box.
I have just built a system with the following specs and Windows is crashing after rebooting during the install process, I've tried installing without the RAID card installed into the PCI-e slot. The video card cannot be removed with the Core i5 CPU, it must be in there for this CPU from what I understand.I have not installed any drivers (i.e. for the RAID card, video card, etc). I'm using a USB mouse and USB keyboard. I've tried running windows without any USB ports in use and I still get the same result.!
I just got my mother's computer back from a repair shop (they've changed the graphic card, the motherboard and the processor, the hard drive stayed the same)
It is a SONY VAIO VPCEE25fx.
I used my Windows 7 Ultimate OEM CD I had when I bought her the computer. But then, at the Custom Install step, it says No drivers or hard drive found. I've tried to reload, scan...none. I'm sure the hard drive is ok.
apparently, the 300 GB of files from my previous OS are still on my harddrive, but I cannot find them. Yes, I'm missing the 300 GB on my HD when I click My Computer, but they're not in this fabled windows.old folder that allegedly has them. I've even used TuneUp Utilities to detect where the data is on my computer, and it can't find them. Bizarre. So, what's taking up all that memory, and, more importantly, how do I get to it?
