PC Keeps Rebooting At Last Step Of Install

Jun 27, 2009

Everything about the install appears to be going fine, but at the last step when it says completing installation, i have problems.

It says it's going to reboot and then does. When it's starting back up, is says setup is updating the registry. Then it says setup is starting services. It restarts again and when it gets to the same spot, out of nowhere the PC reboots and gets to the same point before endless rebooting.

I tried installing both 32 and 64 bit versions but the same problem with both of them. The 32 bit version I was able to get installed just fine on 2 old XP computers my friend had, so I know the disc itself is good.

I've tried just about everything I can think of but can't get past this issue. And every attempt is a big deal because I have to then restore my PC back to the original factory condition and it takes time. I don't have another PC of my own to troubleshoot with either. I've tried raising the RAM to 4GB but that had no effect. I'm sorta a beginner so any help is greatly appreciated.

I encountered an error that stated:windows can not be installed to this disk the selected disk has an MBR partition table on EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks."

Install Windows 7 And Error: Setup Was Unable To Create New Partition

Jan 16, 2013

I tried to dual boot Fedora 18 with my Windows 7. They are on two different hard drives. Fedora 18 worked but I was unable to boot up Windows 7. Frustrated, I decided to just delete everything from all the hard drives and try to do a clean install of Windows 7 using the USB-DVD Windows tool to make a USB Windows 7 installer. I then got the following error when trying to install Windows onto my hard drive:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information"

I tried unplugging the other hard drives and got the same error. I also went to the command prompt and used Diskpart and did clean all. Still the error shows up. Something that might be useful is that when I did disk list in the command prompt it showed my hard drive but with 0 free space. Not sure if this is useful but the drive I want Windows 7 on is a solid state drive but the one I had Fedora on is a normal hard drive and I had an extra harddrive that I used for storage that is a normal hard drive as well.

Cannot Install New Os Due To Partition Error

Jan 14, 2010

i tried to change the partition of my laptop but while in the process, i got an error. when i tried to reboot it, it already says disk error. so i tried to reinstall windows but after the "press any key to boot from cd" msg, i only get a blank screen. now i cant reformat my hard disk and cant reinstall any os on it. i even tried hiren's boot cd but i always get a blank screen after booting from it.

i cant also start the laptop on safe mode or even the last known good configuration. when i tried the safe mode, it says about the partition error (long lines of error like "partition (0)disk...system..." something. i am most certain that the cause was the erroneous or interrupted partitioning.

Install Error Setup Was Unable To Create A New System Partition

Nov 5, 2011

I am having a problem with doing a fresh install of Windows 7. It is on a Dell Inspiron 1546 with a 150 GB hard drive. There was an original install but the computer was having issues as some files were corrupted. I used the Windows 7 disc to format the hard drive and booted from CD after restarting.

However when I try to install the new Windows 7 it sits at the part where it says: Expanding files. Then after a while an error pops up that says: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information

1 Step System Restore Dvd?

Oct 16, 2009

i work for a local computer store, and i have always done our restore disks using ghost 2003, the dos .exe.. and it has worked fine..

Problem is now we have started pumping out Windows 7 machines and i cannot for the life of me get ghost to create a proper restore dvd, they always get a bootmgr error, i can run the repair off a Windows 7 dvd and that fixes it.. but thats not alot of help. (if you have ever delt with a end user you would know that everything has to be 1 touch and drool proof)

Anyway, anyone found any options for a good restore dvd setup? or a way around the bootmgr problem?

I have tried the old vista BCDEDIT and of course that doesn't work..

i have tried -FDSP, no go...

Any other ideas?

Step After Enabling Virtualization In BIOS

Jun 10, 2009

After you save your settings please follow this important step below in order for VT to work properly.

1. Enable VT in bios (where the option is, depends on your MoBo manufacturer)

2. Save BIOS Settings

3. Exit BIOS

4. Shut Down PC (some PC's will shut down automatically for about 3-4 seconds when you save the BIOS. Some will NOT)

5. Leave PC off for about 5-10 seconds

6. Boot PC

you should be all set.

I think this should save a lot of the posts where folk have enabled VT in their bios but it is still not working.

sticky maybe?

How To Install Windows 7 On Second Partition

Jul 12, 2012

I have a OEM CD from my manufacturer. I have two separate partitions in which I am going to be installing Windows on, one that is going to be connected to my Domain at my work, and then the other section of Windows that would be for my own personal use. Using the OEM disc would be the easiest to install it and then use my Windows Anytime Upgrade on to get it running on Ultimate and connect to my domain at my work. Thing is, when I go to run the OEM CD, it gives me three options for installing the OS and all on my hard drive:

Recover Windows to first partition only
Recover Windows to entire HD
Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions

I'm trying to find a way to install it without erasing all of my data. The first option seems like it would work perfectly, but how would I know which partition on my computer would be the technical "first partition"? I searched around a bit to see if I could find a step-by-step guide or possibly even a picture or maybe what even happens after you tell the process to start, but I couldn't find anything.

Anyone have some experience with using a OEM CD and could tell me what would happen or what I could possibly do? Trying to do this on a ASUS-G72GX

Cannot Install Windows 7 Or 8 Due To GPT Partition

Jan 15, 2013

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8 installed, I reformatted the primary drive with Windows 8 on it and when attempting to then install a copy of Windows 7 it states "windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style"There is about 5 different partitions all labelled things like "system reserve" "backup partition" etc and every single one of them seem to give me the same issue.I gave up and went and got a copy of Windows 8 to just put it back to what it was, and now its giving me the same error even though its the same copy of Windows 8? I've been reading many forums regarding how to get this to work but no luck. I tried gpart live which gave me some error when booting so I'm really lost in what to do?

Can't Install Windows 7 On Partition?

Dec 30, 2011

I've just built a new computer, and, because I can't afford a new HD as well right now, I'm trying to use a 600GB SATA drive from my old computer as the boot drive for the new one. Specifically, I have a 100GB empty partition at the beginning of the HD, and a 500GB partition with data on it that I want to keep. I set up the HD in this fashion in Windows XP with Partition Magic. The new build went perfectly fine, but, when I go to install Windows 7 on the 100GB partition of the HD I described, I get an error message saying that Windows can't locate a partition or create a new one. Both partitions show up just fine, and I am able to select the 100GB partition, but can't proceed any farther.

Initially, I had two HDs connected, and the other hard drive kept showing up as disk 0, even if I swapped the SATA connections, so I tried switching the order in BIOS, and then I just disconnected the other disk for now. So the 600GB drive, of course, is now showing as disk 0 with the 100GB partition as partition 1. But I still get the same error message. Also, I disconnected everything I could disconnect, including everything USB, even the mouse. Still the same problem.I'd really like to get this to work, but I'd also like to save the data I have on the 500GB partition. I don't have any space elsewhere to copy it to, so I'd like to avoid any options that would involve reformatting the entire drive. I realize, for example, that I could use DISKPART and CLEAN if all else fails, but I don't want to lose the data.

Windows 7 - 0x8004240F Error When Trying To Make New Partition

Dec 2, 2012

0x8004240F. I encounter this error for the very first time and it happens when I try to make a new partition to install Windows 7 on it using Windows 7 installer (not disk management!) The hard disk has a legitimate Recovery partition of HP (which was active and primary) and another data partition. It has 40 gb of free space. Even if I select like 1 or 10 or 20 gb it still gives 0x8004240F error. I made several commands (after installing Windows 7) like bootrec /fixmbr /fixboot /rebuildbcd and they didn't detected the Win 7 I managed to install BUT I made it's partition in Acronis Disk Director suite. After each restart Windows 7 wanted to start chkdsk on drive C (the Win 7 drive) automatically.

Also the system thinks there is an older version of Windows but there isn't. The partition I created with Acronis was reported Primary in acronis, but in Win 7 installer it was reported as logical... Currently it is reported as Extended. Paragon partition manager reported that some partition overlaps another and this must be the key to solving the problem. But why fixboot and fixmbr didn't worked? I even tried them on the other data partition. I haven't modified the Recovery partition only made it hidden and not active. How to check the partition table for errors and fix them so Windows 7 won't get this error?
