Games Lagging With Direct X Update
Aug 12, 2012I've been playing PC games on my new laptop for a few months now, all of which can run on Direct X 11. Two games, Saints Row the Third and Civilizations V I run using Direct X 9 mode, which helps me keep my laptop temperature down.Recently, however, I have bought and downloaded a few games via Steam that are older, that only use Direct X 9.0c. When I run any of these games for the first time, Steam will start "installing Direct X...". After that, all of my games run with very noticeable lag. I will lose FPS (going from 70+ to about 20-) every 20 seconds or so. If I perform a system restore to the moment before Steam installed the Direct X, everything starts running fine again.This has rendered half of my games on Steam unplayable because they all need to install Direct X before playing. Aug 28, 2011my problem started after running the following dxsetup.exe, which was required to play a mod for the game morrowind (apparently some files were missing from the most recent versions of dx): (url) everything seemed to work fine after this. i played the mod for a while, then yesterday i decided to buy deus ex: human revolution. again, i installed, the game required a dx update which processed fine, and i played the game for a few hours and went to sleep. the next day, my problems began. i noticed Internet, livestream, own3d.tv, or any web video player would crash after a minute or so. the video would stop, the sound would stutter and distort, and i get a brief black screen and a then the video player restores with a green screen instead of the video playing, and in my task menu a pop up occurs with "nvidia kernel 180.26 has crashed and successfully recovered"

Apr 6, 2011I am currently not having any issues with XP and everything is working fine for what I use this computer for. That being said and considering my set up is an upgrade to Windows 7 worth it? Is Windows 7 really that big of an improvement over XP? The only thing that is even making me consider an upgrade to Windows 7 is for the chance to use DirectX 11.However, I've read that some older setups are having a hard time getting Windows 7 to work correctly because many of the necessary drivers needed for the computer to operate correctly are no longer supported. I know for a fact the last updates that were released for my BIOS and my motherboard chipset were in 2006. Will they even work in Windows 7?

Jul 16, 2012I recently created shortcut desktop 'sign-in' links on my two laptops to take me straight to the place where I enter my email address and password so I can look at my mail. That's fine, but somehow on the older machine I managed to create s shortcut straight to my actual hotmail inbox, meaning I did not have to go through the signing in process. I would like to do that on my other machine as it saves a few seconds and I am on and off email all day. If it sktop link which takes me direct to my account is the miscrosoft windows logo, whereas the one on my other laptop which takes me to the signing in station has a little orange envelope and 'hotmail sign in' on it.

It used to, because I only have one account on my laptop and so whenever I turned it on or when it woke up from sleep, the account was already selected so I could just entered my password. Now the Switch users button has appeared and I have to first click on the account so I can then input the password. I found the solution to disable then Switch users butto, but the account still must be clicked first, as if there were more accounts on the laptop.

Jun 10, 2012I have been getting these .dll errors since Civ5, then Deus X HR, then on far cry 2 if i switch to dx10. i fixed the civ5 and DXHR dlls they dont happen anymore. and it seems every time i download something new i get a .dll error. when trying to install the morrowind graphics and sound overhaul mod i got a .dll error during the auto installation!!!!! during the distant land setup to be exact. and i think it was the d3d9_42.dll compiler or something. please help. this is getting out of hand. im afraid now to even buy games because of these errors occurring.
EDIT: the error reads "C:windowssystem32d3dcompiler_42.dll is not designed to run on windows or contains an error" etc etc.
