How To Speed Up Reboot Time
Aug 30, 2011
I just reinstalled Windows to clear any potential programs or anything else that would slow my computer down. My OS is installed on a Samsung 470 series SSD(128 GB). If it matters, there are 62 GB free. Anyway, from clicking "restart" until I was prompted to type my password, it took 58 seconds. Is there any way to speed this up? I'm not necessarily that impatient; I just like to tweak things if I can.

Currently I am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my pc :
core i3-2100
msi h67 motherboard
6 GB g skill ram
msi 5770
wd caviar blue 1TB
My problem is my boot partition is only 100 GB, so I put other applications than windows to another drive? So does it actually any correlation between the boot time and me installing other application to another drive than the boot C. I want to try ssd, but it actually quite expensive. So I might want to but another hard drive just to put all the application.

Im using a microsoft wireless mouse wheel to scroll through web pages on IE9 and win 7. I set its speed to the lowest possible in control panel and it works fine.
When i restart my laptop, the speed is back up to full when i scroll, but when i check in control panel >mouse settings, the speed shows that its still set to the lowest setting. I move the slider, click apply and it works again.
how i can get my mouse wheel speed to be consistent between reboots?

I have a hp compaq nc6320, Intel core 2 1.66GHz with 4GB RAM running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I've just done a fresh install and installed all updates and now it seems to take ages (around 5 minutes) to boot in to windows to a point where I can open a browser or program etc. Is this just because of all the updates, as before I applied them it was a much quicker process booting into windows? Anything I can do to speed things up a little?

I have a problem with the speed of my mapped network drive. At first al is wel and file loading is as fast as to be expected. But after some time the transfer speed drops dramaticaly and it becomes very slow. I tested it primaraly with loading of image sequences, but it affects all file loading the same. If I logoff and login to windows again the speed is back to its full potential. And then after some time again it drops. I have seached the internet for similar ploblems, but could not find this kind of problem, only the dropping of the connection entirely, but thats not the case here.
All user PC's that have the network drive mapped are windows7 Pro PC's with gigabit lan. The server PC is also windows7 with quad gigabit lan, teamed to 1 connection. A 4 ssd raid setup via a MSI megaRaid controller provides the drive for mapping. The switch is a HP proCurve 1810G-24. Jumbo frames is disabled on all devices. Because i have no domain, the password protection for file sharing on the server is disabled, so al user PC's can connect to the mapped network drive with their own username.
Is there some sort of idle timer on the mapped network drive that could be responsible or something?

Is there any way to speed up the time it takes to close the preview window? By default, it takes about 1.5 seconds for the window to close after moving the mouse off of the icon or preview pane.Turning off taskbar animations in the "visual effects" does not shorten the time. It just takes away the animation, but, it still takes about 1.5 seconds for the preview to go away.

My friend is having a problem with the reboot time app posted here. It is showing her like 86 seconds but it only take 50 secconds. The app works fine on my machine. Any ideas as to why it is not working correctly on her machine? I know that the vbs was already unblocked.

My PC rebooted itself this morning. I wasn't using it at the time so I don't know what triggered it. The event log shows no error and there was no software update responsible as far as I can determine. To make things more complicated the time/date on the system clock was August 2009. All of installed software was reporting itself as "new" looking for configuration "on first use". Once I spotted this and updated the time everything went back to normal. In all my years on PC's I have never seen this.

I have downloaded the newest RTM 32bit Windoows 7 from Microsoft MSDN and tried to install it on my Celeron 2 Duo 64bit system.. Now when I boot the computer up the Windows logo comes, and then it stays there for 20+ minutes before the system is booted up..
I have tried with other versions of Windows 7 32bit also, but its the same everytime.. Is this because I absolutly need to install a 64bit version? I remember that I once had 32bit Vista on another 64bit system and that worked fine...
Anyone experienced this before?

It makes several months am using Windows 7 Professional on my Dell Studio XPS 1640 (it's a 64bit system). It was working fine and I was happy with it. It makes some weeks now that after each time I shut down, when I turn on again, it boots up to where the 4 coloured logo appears and then am left with a dark screen with only the cursor. I once waited for nearly 1 hour, nothing changed. The users screen never appeared.
I had to turn off manually, and when I turn it on again, it tell me that windows failed to restart.... and am left with these 2 options: >start Windows Normally(I went back to square 1 when I tried this) >Startup Repair.
The automatic system repair did not find any problem, I had to use the system recovery for which I had to choose a previous date in time to which I want the computer to reboot. Some times it works, sometimes I have to do it again and change the date.
When I hibernate the laptop, there is no problem when I turn it on again. But when I shut down or restart the laptop, it boots up to the "starting windows" screen with the windows logo and I have to turn it off manually.
It is causing me a lot of problem, I cannot install any program, each time I have to reinstall my printer.

I got this sexy pc my man built me less than a year ago and it's been working fine (or maybe I haven't noticed before) but in the past few months the clock is resetting every time[i] I reboot. It seems to lose time over a couple hours of just being turned on as well. It's a very stealthy process so I haven't actually seen it do it, but all of a sudden I'll be late for work again, and blaming my pc has become a lame excuse. I've read topics on this, my motherboard battery is dead, but it's not only on reboots as it happens every day and I barely ever turn it off. Anyway. If it is the mb battery, how do I find this out? It's my gaming pc if that matters in any way and my motherboard is the hot Sabertooth x58. I'm running windows 7 ultimate.

I just want to be able to increase the speed of my fans beyond their spec, and have complete manual control over their RPMs without a care about the temps. I have a liquid cooling setup and the fans on my radiator as they are right now simply aren't cutting it. I have them hooked up to the motherboard in hopes of finding something to just boost their speed via software, but SpeedFan is the only thing I could find and it simply sucks for that purpose.

About a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).
Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.
Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.
Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.
I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.
I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?

So I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.

I have an issue with my P8P67 PRO (Rev 3.1). Mouse but mainly keyboard (both Microsoft) are not detected during the cold boot from time to time, i suspect the BIOS is the one to blame i have the latest version, what can i do?Both are USB.When i turn on the PC from time to time a long beep takes place and a message during posting (no keyboard detected). Sometimes happens sometimes not. PS/2 ports didn't work for me, when im using them NOTHING gets recognized (and yes i turned off the PC before plugging them).

My computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).
