Incorrect Time After Spontaneous Reboot

Feb 14, 2011

My PC rebooted itself this morning. I wasn't using it at the time so I don't know what triggered it. The event log shows no error and there was no software update responsible as far as I can determine. To make things more complicated the time/date on the system clock was August 2009. All of installed software was reporting itself as "new" looking for configuration "on first use". Once I spotted this and updated the time everything went back to normal. In all my years on PC's I have never seen this.

Time Is Incorrect On Windows 7 X64?

Nov 2, 2011

The time on my win 7 x64 ultimate is incorrect. I am in the uk so am on London time. We have recently entered Daylight Saving Time. So the clock should have gone back one hour but it appears to have gone back two! A week ago the time of day now would have been 00:20, the time now should be 23:20 and the time my clock is showing is 22:20. I have looked in control panel > Clock Language Region - and my time zone is set correctly to UTC Dublin Edinburgh Lisbon London as it should be. I try unticking adjust for daylight saving time and click apply but this doesn't even change the time( not even by one hour as it should) it seems to not matter whether it is ticked or unticked, my clock remains an hour behind what the current time actually should be.

Windows Incorrect Time

May 7, 2012

The OS on one of my W7 machines doesn't want to keep the correct time and I can't figure out why. The first thing I did was check the BIOS and it keeps the right time. I've gone into date and time and confirmed that the time zone is correct (MST) and even manually set the time several times but it always changes to an incorrect time. I've changed the time sync server to different servers and it has the correct time at first, but inevitably changes within a few minutes to a wrong time. The only thing I can find on google suggest it's the CMOS battery, but it's a new motherboard and the BIOS keeps the correct time, as I've said above. Below is my system specs.

How To Speed Up Reboot Time

Aug 30, 2011

I just reinstalled Windows to clear any potential programs or anything else that would slow my computer down. My OS is installed on a Samsung 470 series SSD(128 GB). If it matters, there are 62 GB free. Anyway, from clicking "restart" until I was prompted to type my password, it took 58 seconds. Is there any way to speed this up? I'm not necessarily that impatient; I just like to tweak things if I can.

Taking Too Long Time To Reboot

Aug 16, 2009

I have downloaded the newest RTM 32bit Windoows 7 from Microsoft MSDN and tried to install it on my Celeron 2 Duo 64bit system.. Now when I boot the computer up the Windows logo comes, and then it stays there for 20+ minutes before the system is booted up..

I have tried with other versions of Windows 7 32bit also, but its the same everytime.. Is this because I absolutly need to install a 64bit version? I remember that I once had 32bit Vista on another 64bit system and that worked fine...

Anyone experienced this before?

Windows Does Not Reboot After Each Time Shutdown

Nov 7, 2012

It makes several months am using Windows 7 Professional on my Dell Studio XPS 1640 (it's a 64bit system). It was working fine and I was happy with it. It makes some weeks now that after each time I shut down, when I turn on again, it boots up to where the 4 coloured logo appears and then am left with a dark screen with only the cursor. I once waited for nearly 1 hour, nothing changed. The users screen never appeared.

I had to turn off manually, and when I turn it on again, it tell me that windows failed to restart.... and am left with these 2 options: >start Windows Normally(I went back to square 1 when I tried this) >Startup Repair.

The automatic system repair did not find any problem, I had to use the system recovery for which I had to choose a previous date in time to which I want the computer to reboot. Some times it works, sometimes I have to do it again and change the date.

When I hibernate the laptop, there is no problem when I turn it on again. But when I shut down or restart the laptop, it boots up to the "starting windows" screen with the windows logo and I have to turn it off manually.

It is causing me a lot of problem, I cannot install any program, each time I have to reinstall my printer.

Windows 7 Clock Resetting Every Time On Reboot

Oct 4, 2011

I got this sexy pc my man built me less than a year ago and it's been working fine (or maybe I haven't noticed before) but in the past few months the clock is resetting every time[i] I reboot. It seems to lose time over a couple hours of just being turned on as well. It's a very stealthy process so I haven't actually seen it do it, but all of a sudden I'll be late for work again, and blaming my pc has become a lame excuse. I've read topics on this, my motherboard battery is dead, but it's not only on reboots as it happens every day and I barely ever turn it off. Anyway. If it is the mb battery, how do I find this out? It's my gaming pc if that matters in any way and my motherboard is the hot Sabertooth x58. I'm running windows 7 ultimate.

Spontaneous Reboots / Controller Error

Aug 5, 2009

I am running Windows 7 RC on an iMac 24 inch through boot camp. I've been running for months with no issues.

Recently, I've been having almost daily spontaneous reboots. With the event log saying "The driver detected a controller error on deviceharddiskdr1." It's event 11, Disk

There are 3-4 errors within a minute of each other, and then a reboot. I can post the event data or binary data if necssary. I'm clueless at what any of this means. I have multiple HDs and paritions hooked up, if that helps.

Spontaneous Shutdown; Now Only Works In Safe Mode?

Jun 26, 2012

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo XI 2528[CODE]I tried startup repair and it failed with an error (I'll check for an error code when I get back and update). I decided to simply reinstall Windows 7 as since I installed it I only installed Google Chrome and iTunes since the install, so I wasn't bothered about losing anything. I booted with the disk and when it came to choosing a partition to install to, none showed up. I went into Safe Mode and everything works fine. Whenever I try to boot normally, though, it fails. dditional InformationOn startup, at the point in time you press F2 to enter BIOS, etc., there are several uneven jagged red lines across the screen - perhaps a graphics card issue? Also, I used to have Linux Ubuntu installed in a secondary partition in dual-boot when I had Windows Vista. I uninstalled that many months ago, but the option for it still shows up on boot as I, embarassingly enough, don't know how to get rid of it.

Incorrect Username Displayed

I really didn't know the best title for this problem. I have a problem with my girlfriends laptop, where she can't install any MSI files, due to a "The file cannot be opened" error, or something to that effect. After looking in the Permissions settings for the MSI file in question, I noticed something in the Security tab, under User Names. Where it's supposed to say Miss Ghoul (STEPHANIE-PCMiss Ghoul), it actually says... Miss Ghoul (STEPHANIE-PC"). There are " where Miss Ghoul should be. I tried for ages to find out how to change this, but because she's running Windows 7 Home Premium, I have no Group Policy editor (if it even helps to have it). Is there any way to force change the " to say what it's supposed to say? And could this have an efect on her ability to install MSI files?

The problem is everytime I type in my password, it tells me that I've typed the wrong password. I try to "switch user" and login from there (not sure what the difference is), and that doesn't work either. I always end up having to restart the computer. Then when it gets to the login page, I type in the exact password that I tried to type before, and it works. It's only right after I hibernate that the password stops working.

Default Window Size Is Incorrect

Feb 17, 2012

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7. I had run into an issue where certain UI elements would ignore DPI changes. Eventually, text looked like this:

Not exactly ideal. I couldn't find a solution, so I was forced to do reinstall. Instead of using my pre-SP1 disc, I created a slipstream DVD. Despite RT Windows 7 Lite giving me an error at the end of the burning process, Windows installed fine... for the most part. See, the default window size is too wide. Whereas windows typically default at something closer to 4:3, mine are closer to 16:9. It's a minor issue, sure, but I'm worried it's a symptom of a bigger problem.

Thinking something got goofed up during the install, I found and applied a registry edit that resets window properties. After relogging, the issue still persisted. Does SP1 use wider windows by default or is there something else going on?
