How To Show Logged On User Privileges In Windows 7
Oct 11, 2012
There is a command in the Resource Kit Tools (SHOWPRIV.EXE) for earlier versions of Windows. I don't find a link for a downloadable RKT set for Win7 (though I see some online references to it's existence.
Bottom line: Is there is a PowerShell script / command to help enumerate the permissions of the logged on user, providing a similar output to showpriv?
I am stuck with a problem for quite a while now, Almost every morning when I return to my computer I find my user logged out of windows on the "logon screen". I do have the option "On resume, display logon screen" set and I don't want to change it for security reasons, it works fine for short times.( screensaver turns on, I move the mouse, I am back on the "logon screen" but still loged on). But it appears that if windows is left idle for too long on the screensaver it not only returns to the "logon screen" but also logs me off, I can rule out that the computer crashes over night and reboots from the system up time. Maybe there is a security policy setting or something that I am missing?
I'm getting pretty good at reinstalling Windows 7 (Clean) - However I do have a question: What is the best way to set myself up as the Administrator so I don't constantly have to work around those pesky "You need administrator privileges to do xxx". I would think that even with setting my default user account as an Administrator, there would be a way to really be an Administrator.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I have a problem regarding User Accounts.Let's say I am account A on this computer. This is an administrator account without a password. When I went into the control panel,I demoted Account B to a standard user. Apparently, however, account B can simply change this setting even though she is a standard user. Is this true? Even when I set a password for my account, account B can still bypass it or demote me. Why is this?
We have a tennis club with a central PC for our members so they can surf the internet and use the online reservation system. However in the evening we use that PC also to play music via Spotify. So we need an efficient way to change to the other user account with Spotify on it so that the sound card is always playing the music from Spotify even when we change back to the user account for the members.
I'm trying to allow a user account on my win 7 home laptop admin rights on my win 7 professional desktop so i can send it admin level commands over command prompt and generally do more when file sharing.
Both computers have an account called "Me" on them with exactly the same password. The computer running win 7 professional is called ME-DESKTOP, and the computer running Win 7 home is called ME-LAPTOP. I heard that setting the usernames and passwords to the same should work on some other forums, but i get the feeling that was referring to computers both running win 7 home, as it has evidently not worked here.
I think the problem is I've got to add \ME-LAPTOPMe to the administrators group on ME-DESKTOP but i can't find how to as when i try and add a new location it won't find ME-LAPTOP for me to select even though ME-LAPTOP has network discovery turned on.
For some reason I can no longer edit user account information. The following options do not work:
Add or Remove User Accounts Create an Administrator Account Create an Account Create Standard User Account Turn Guest Account On / Off
All the options appear, it's just when I click on them nothing happens?! I'm logged in as Administrator, I even unlocked the hidden Administrator account and am still running into the same issues. As far as answers go all I can find is the typical, "do a system restore", "reinstall Windows", crap like that. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
I'm running Windows 7 home 64bit processor on my Lenovo laptop. There 3 user profiles. How do I check the last time (not this session) somebody logged into my user profile?
I built this machine a while back and I've had this appear a few times. I am the only one who uses the computer and as far as I know everything is set as administrator. These files were on an external USB drive and I was trying to open them from there. I checked permissions and it appears there is full access. However, editing within the permissions dialog boxes are not as that clear to me.
So I have an administrator account for maintenance purposes and I also have my frequently used standard account. Usually, when you right click on a program, for example: Spybot S&D There is an option to "Run as Administrator". And if you click it, it prompts for an admin password.but for me, it does not ask for an admin password, it just ignores the fact that I clicked that completely, and runs it as a standard user.
This happens whenever I need admin privileges for something. I cannot elevate my privileges on a standard user account. It used to work properly, until I changed my account type to standard, and enabled the Administrator account.
Recently I bought Toshiba Sattelite C670-1DJ and today I accidentally unplugged my AC cable. So I started it and it started computer with "Starting your computer for first use" or something like that.It logged in temporary Administrator account and when I tried to switch to my account, it wasn't there, however there is my folder in C:/users.I tried to reboot computer and edit registrs(I am a begginer in Windows, so i didn't try to do something extraordinary) but nothing help, i cannot log in my account.

My win 7 laptop seemed to hang at user logon, no mouse or keyboard response. I did forced shutdown. After that Windows detect some problem, want to do the recovery boot. It goes to the point where I see windows screen, I never see a logon icon. How long should I wait ? I try to boot from CD, the same. it hangs and I never see the user icons. I try to run the repair option from CD. It hangs at Starting setup.
Our office used Windows 7 pro 32bit, when new PC come out team install OS and other application for user, but we used usr name "IT" that have permission to install on our domain. we have 1 LPT Driver , and 2 Network printer. I complete to install printer and can print out, but when I switch user to "IT1" that have permission only user. on IT1 user we not see any printer on "device and printer" but when we open microsoft outlook and select "print" we can found printer that user "IT" add, How I can set every user that login to this computer can see printer that add by user "IT"
I've searched a number of other forums, looked under Admin privileges in the search panel, checked through the other threads as far as I could, and checked references to Naturally Speaking but cannot find a solution to this problem. I'm not at all technical so will need word of one syllable aI had a local company build me a new computer. I installed windows 7 on the blank disc with just one single user (me) who was classed as administrator. Until recently it worked fine. I installed Naturally Speaking on it and set up a profile. It worked fine from the initial session after installation but, after it had been closed, whenever I tried to restart it the program would load but any attempt to load my profile got the error message: The user file you have selected cannot be accessed. This could be because you do not have sufficient privileges to use it or because it is being accessed by another program."
Attempting to run the program as an administrator gets the message that it cannot be run in enhanced mode. I contacted Nuance (who make NS) and had a long correspondence with them.had no effect. After uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times and ending up with the same result, I uninstalled it and ran a removal program from Nuance to clear every trace of it. Just recently - to solve a problem with windows that recently appeared - I reinstalled Windows 7 using the update facility on the Win7 installation disc. This worked fine and once again I only had the one single user who had administrator status. There were no working guest or other users.I tried Naturally speaking again with the same result. Once again I completely removed it from the system. I then set up a new user with Administrator privileges. Going into that user I installed NS again. This time it worked fine. I can start it from that user and it works well. If I go to the first user screen there is also an icon for Naturally Speaking but once again, if I start it I can't load my profile with the error message above.
It's not particularly convenient if I have to switch users to use NS. It all seems to be to do with Win 7 Administrator status. Can anyone suggest a way that the original Administrator (me) can get the same administrator privileges as the second user seems to have under his administrator status. It seems a ridiculous situation that one user can use it while the other can't.Sorry to have rambled on but I was trying to give as complete a picture as possible.[CODE]
On XP you can right click on start and go to explore and tell by looking at the tree if it is an admin or who the current user is. How do I do this on Win 7?
I'm putting together a slide show of 3D images that I want to show on my TV next week when we have company.I would like the images to stay on the screen a little longer without having to actually create a slide show in some special application like Premiere. The Slide Show function in Explorer works great if I can control the timing.
I logged onto my account on my laptop, and when it loaded, a message came up saying "User logged on with temporary profile. Log in later to fix this problem." I couldn't access any of my files or folders, and it looked like a guest account. All the other accounts work. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary on my computer lately. I burned Ubuntu to my flash drive for my other computer using Live USB Install last night and then logged off. Someone else in my house logged onto their profile and when I logged onto mine a few minutes ago, I got that error message. I tried logging out and logging back in, and it didn't work.
While attempting to set up a new computer on our network I seem to have lost access to many documents and lost permission to many folders. While setting up a new computer we began playing with what programs and documents the new computer could access. (The new machine is to be used for clients, and for internet/printing privileges) we did not want the computer to access anything on the network except the printer.
We did the above by right clicking on the public folders where we kept our documents, opening the security tab and restricting the permissions. We would then deny the new computer access via the ownership tab. This seemed to work as the new computer on the network had no access to our files but could still print to the printer on the shared network. I wasn't on the computer at the time, (my lackey status didn't permit as such) and I think somehow the other person managed remove our access to the programs/documents.
I think they did this by changing the admin privileges to deny for all. I am guessing that's what happened because now when I try and take ownership of the files I am unable to open them. It will let me take ownership of the files but then still says me access is denied when I try to open any of the selected files of documents. (does not prompt for password). In short, Is there a way to reestablish my admin privileges after what appears to be simple mistake on which account was selected?
I seem to have lost admin rights/privileges on my account, even though it says I am an admin. I can't use windows update because of the following message. UAC is off. I created another account and swapped admin privileges to that, and everything was ok, but as soon as I swap the privileges back to my original account, i get various 'this action requires admin rights' etc. I don't want to keep logging into another admin account just so I can use windows update.
I am trying to uninstall something (DivX) by going to the start menu and "remove divx bundle". I get the error message "You must have System Administration Privileges to uninstall DivX for windows, try again". I only have one account set up on this computer and it's an administrative account. What gives here?
I am running windows 7 home premium and am trying to install Corel draw x4, but it will install to 65% and a dialog will pop up stating...error 1920. Service Protexis Licening v2 failed to start verify that I have sufficient privileges to start the service. Additionally when I go to services I don't even see the protexis service, nor do I see it anywhere on my computer. I am the only person who uses this laptop I have no other account, I sometimes feel this isn't my computer ,because I get these dialogs alot. I even tried to go to C and properties to change the owner/security settings. How to gain ownership of the computer.
I was booted into Windows a couple of days ago, when without any reason what soever, I was logged off, and had to log in again. I checked Event Viewer, which showed: "The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because a composited theme is not in use."
My uncle recently purchased an Acer Aspire One computer, but they (walmart) did not switch the administrative rights over to him and it is still under their control. I can not access anything and it's annoying I tried system config and the password is valid, but they disabled programs and features.
I am dealing with more of an annoyance than a serious problem. When I start up I recv. a msg stating that I am not logged on as an administrator. I then have to switch users at the start menu and then no more pop up and I do have administrative capabilities.I am not that computer savy but I dont think this is normal. Other than the guest account(which is off), I am the only user. I have been through the control panel inside out and upside down. I am listed as the administrator for sure, in a group, not a domain. I also turned off the password requirement. I am confused as to why I have to take that step.
I have Windows 7 Pro, and I need to get around the setup of minimal downloads, even from Microsoft. I need to get around the admin priviliges. How do I do it?
After setting up the Christmas tree the other night our breaker was thrown. After starting Windows up I no longer have admin privileges. Worse yet, no user does. Also, from my log in screen only one user is shown (the previous admin account). If I type other users names and passwords I can access them.
Since I can't change anyone's privileges above my own, what do I do?
