How To Set Up A Home Wireless System
May 8, 2011
I have a desktop running win 7 64 bit with broadband supplied by Virgin media cable. I also have another desktop computer which is not being used on which I am going to reinstall XP for my wife to use. I originally reformatted the hard disk as I thought I was going to sell it. I want this PC to have a wireless connection. I have the netgear router supplied by Virgin and I know I need to buy a wireless adapter for my wifes pc, this will probably be a TP Link card. I want the main PC to be hard wired and only my wife's PC to be wireless.
how do I connect the Wireless Router and the Virgin Modem. Do I connect the wireless router to the virgin box on the wall and then connect the modem to the router or do I connect the Modem to the wall box and then connect the wireless router to the modem ?

I just bought my Dell inspiron laptop windows 7 today when I first turned it on I set up my home wireless connection and it was working fine. I was streaming a movie on Netflix when my Internet connection was lost. I have not been able to get Internet since then. It says I'm connected to my home wifi but that I have no Internet connection and the web browser will not load. I have a toshiba laptop windows xp an iPod an xbox360 and they all connect perfectly to the wifi. It was working fine then it just disconnected I have not gotten any Internet connection for hours and I please want to know what I can do to solve this problem. Many others seem to have a similar problem.

There seems to be a problem with the wifi. Normally, when the ethernet cable is not connected it would show the available wireless networks (like any other laptop). But now it does not detect any wireless networks including my home network and I am sitting right beside the router.I tried pressing Fn+F8(buttons to enable or disable the wifi) but that function isnt working anymore.

I have a 3 PC router based workgroup network. 2 PCs are XP SP 3, one PC is Windows 7 When all PCs are wired, everything works just fine. All PCs (W7 and XP) can see and share files with all other PCs (It took a bit of doing but I got there eventually)If I try to connect the W7 PC wirelessly,
* the W7 PC cannot access/share files on the XP machines
* the XP machines can see and share files on the W7 PC
* The W7 PC can access the router and can ping the other PCs
There is no firewall in operation on the XP machine What do I need to do to get the W7 machine to access/share files on the XP machine via wireless connection?

A few hours ago I installed a Windows update, so my ACER Aspire 5733 restarted. I shut it down after the restart, not paying attention to the wireless. When I went to turn it back on, I couldn't get online because my home wireless connection has "Limited access."The icon signifying signal strength on the taskbar has a small yellow star-shaped dot on it. When I click on it, it pops up and says "Not connected. Connections are available. It then says my wireless network name and says "Limited access" next to it. The signal strength is excellent. When I disconnect and then reconnect it says the connection was unsuccessful because the computer has limited connectivity. The same network is working on my other laptop and on my iPod, but not on my Aspire 5733.

I am on a Verizon FIOS wireless network. We have both a Toshiba and Sony computer. I downloaded the latest drivers for my HP Photosmart 6280 printer and was able to successfully install my printer wirelessly. However, no such luck with my Sony. I download the same drivers, and it goes through part of the installation, but at some point I get a message that 'the system cannot find the file specified', and then it rolls back the install, deleting the download.

I have the modem and router both in my room. It's a net-gear wireless router. I am hot-wired with Ethernet and so I do not use wireless Internet. My family and other computers however all use wireless. I am the only computer running windows 7, and my Internet is 100% perfect.
The problem I have is mostly with my father's desktop running XP. I have just barely started to Google and learn and what not how to set up passkeys and WEPs etc for a wireless network.
here is what I want. I want to set up the network so that ANYONE can join IF they have the password. Just one single password. not a ton of keys generated from a pass-phrase. Just one password that my father's desktop (with wireless card), my sisters laptop, and my girlfriend's laptop can all use and get Internet long as they apply the password to the network through their wireless card.
How do I set this up? is this possible? How do I do it? I can access my router (on my computer) and these are my options..

If you have time to help me solve this problem I would really appreciate it. First off, I have a Samsung NP350V4C notebook with an Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter (currently up-to-date), the system I'm running on is a Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and my router is a TP-Link WR-740n. As of now,
I can connect to our router and internet nicely, but this is only possible because I just restarted our router. And probably (100% sure of it), if I restart, reboot, sleep my notebook, or simply press the disconnect button on my wireless connection list, I would have difficulty connecting again. By difficulty I mean, my notebook would continuously try to identify the network, and in between identifications says "no internet access" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on it.
So, again I have to restart the router just so I could connect my notebook to get wireless connection. Troubleshooting the network (by clicking on the red "X" mark on the network map between the home network and internet) doesn't help either. I also tried the ipconfig /release and /renew... does not help either, it just says media disconnected and such. One thing that amazes me that my notebook can connect to home wireless network flawlessly

I have recently been having difficulties with connecting with my wireless connection. We have a in-home router that is connected to two computer's downstairs by cable. I however own a Acer, Windows 7 laptop that I mainly use upstairs and I get a Excellent signal strength.I have connected to my Home wireless connection before with no problem but recently the connection keeps coming up as ~Identifying... No Internet Access. Also when I have had connection to this network prior to this problem the connection is under Home. But when I try to connect to the same network it comes up as Public or just keeps Identifying. I have the connection set to Connect Automatically. Also the yellow triangle with the exclamation point almost always pops up immediately when I reboot my system or after I Disconnect and Connect the network again. I have tried Disabling and Enabling the network in the adapter settings and this does not work either. In the manage wireless networks tab, I have repeatedly deleted the connection and reentered the security password and again put it as automatically connect but it still comes up as Identifying. I have seen many people with this same problem and have tried many of the suggestions to no avail. It is rather bizarre because my connection will be in this Identifying state for a while and randomly connect properly and I have no idea what makes it go off and on so erratically. I just had it working again for a few days and it is again acting up.

I have this horrible Compaq laptop. It is a Presario CQ62. I want to smash it.The OS is Windows 7, a major problem in itself which requires other remedies. The issue that randomly started happening one day, and won't stop, is that the left and right arrow keys, home and end, page up/down, and delete don't work. They do work, however, if I disable the wireless network adapter. This is extremely annoying, and cripples the way I use the computer, becuase I use those keys a lot to navigate applications instead of clicking everywhere like a serf.I did try uninstalling both the keyboard and network adapter in control panel, then rebooting so Windows would find them and reinstall the drivers. I thought maybe they would go on another IRQ or some crap.

I have an Asus G73 laptop that I am wanting to do a system recovery on. It works but it's very qwirky and has occasional lock ups. Somehow, one of the automatic Windows updates that was installed deleted all of my old restore points, all the way back to when I first bought the thing. Anyway, I can't get it to burn a full set of recovery disks which is apparently not that uncommon with these machine. Asus actualy responded to an inquiry I sent them (although it takes like, two weeks to get each reply. The dialog has been going on for weeks). They told me to go ahead and do the F9 on start up and tell it to restore the OS partition.
- Asus recommended that I just do the "restore Windows to first partition only". This will leave the other partitions as is. I have a second partition that is for data, games, etc. There is also a third partition that is for MS Office 2010 if I ever decided to purchase the program and activate it. I have all the Office software I need from work so I don't need this third partition. Actualy what I would like to do is just have one large partition with everything on it, including the recovery directory and the OS, restored back to exactly like it was the day I got it. Can this be done with the F9 on start up method?

Because a previous virus had changed my registry in a diffrerent PC where I could no longer do a restore (deleted restore points), I made this registry change to this new PC. I changed the permissions in the SystemRestore folder for users to Deny on Full Control and Read. I also made a registry backup in case something went wrong. Well something did go wrong and now I cannot do any restores even after I imported my registry backup.
I get the following error: SystemRestore cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: Access is denied. How can I undo the mess I made. Using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.Is there a way to reset the permissions back to default. You will need to run 'Subinacl Tool' to reset the permission to normal. To reset system permissions, follow the steps:
1. Download subinacl.msi from link, and save it on the desktop. [URL]
2. On the desktop, double-click subinacl.msi to install the tool.
3. Select C:WindowsSystem32 as the destination folder. Note This step assumes that Windows is installed in C:Windows. If Windows is installed elsewhere, select the appropriate path to .System32.
4. Open Notepad.
5. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window.
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f
6. In Notepad click File, Save As, and then type: reset.cmd
7. In Notepad click Save as type, and then select All Files (*.*).
8. Save the reset.cmdfile to your desktop, and close Notepad.
9. Double-click the reset.cmdfile to reset the Windows Update permissions. Note This step may take several minutes, so please be patient. When the permissions have been reset, you will be prompted with "Finished, press any key to continue."
10. Press any key to complete the installation.

About 3 weeks ago, I was using a public WIFI connection. *something* went wrong, my computer froze up, and ever since, my system icons have been disabled and I can only connect to my home WIFI connection - by going to the control panel and manually connecting. Since I no longer have my connectivity icon, I can not view the available networks, and therefore cannot select one to connect to. Only my home WIFI connection works. This is bad, since I will be moving soon and leaving my home network. I have tried every tutorial I have found.....my last resort would be reinstalling the OS...but I'm not even sure that would work. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
