Cannot Setup Wireless Network

Oct 22, 2009

I'm trying (desperately) to set up my network on Windows 7, but have hit a bump in that it just cannot find my network. I checked Device Manager to see if the card was found - it was with a troubleshoot exclamation point on it.I removed the card, used the installation disc and am not able to get very far. After the install (after which nothing happens), I click on the Belkin Wireless Networking Utility icon on the desktop and it says "missing shortcut: searching for Belkinwcui.exe", after which I get a window saying "The item Belkinwcui.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed of moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly". That exe file isn't anywhere in my computer, searching through Explorer. In fact, in the Belkin install folder (Program Files (x86) -> Belkin ->FSD8001v1...) there just looks like maybe a driver (AegisE5.dll) and an application (AegisI5) that doesn't run. I guess is to take my PC upstairs and line it into my modem/base station directly, but I'd rather not move it.

Unidentified Network - WPA2 Wireless Setup

Feb 14, 2011

I setup WPA2 on my router and everyone can connect just fine. But a new laptop with Windows 7 that used to be able to connect before I set WPA2 can no longer connect. It takes a few minutes connecting saying "Identifying" then ends up saying it's connected with "Unidentified network". Can't ping the router, can't get to the internet etc. I've tried rebooting both the laptop and router, network diagnostic (which just tells me to reboot the router) etc and nothing works.

Wireless Home Network Not Detected?

There seems to be a problem with the wifi. Normally, when the ethernet cable is not connected it would show the available wireless networks (like any other laptop). But now it does not detect any wireless networks including my home network and I am sitting right beside the router.I tried pressing Fn+F8(buttons to enable or disable the wifi) but that function isnt working anymore.

Windows 7 Wireless Connection To Home Network?

May 2, 2011

I have a 3 PC router based workgroup network. 2 PCs are XP SP 3, one PC is Windows 7 When all PCs are wired, everything works just fine. All PCs (W7 and XP) can see and share files with all other PCs (It took a bit of doing but I got there eventually)If I try to connect the W7 PC wirelessly,

* the W7 PC cannot access/share files on the XP machines

* the XP machines can see and share files on the W7 PC

* The W7 PC can access the router and can ping the other PCs

There is no firewall in operation on the XP machine What do I need to do to get the W7 machine to access/share files on the XP machine via wireless connection?

Installing Wireless Printer On Home Network?

Dec 5, 2011

I am on a Verizon FIOS wireless network. We have both a Toshiba and Sony computer. I downloaded the latest drivers for my HP Photosmart 6280 printer and was able to successfully install my printer wirelessly. However, no such luck with my Sony. I download the same drivers, and it goes through part of the installation, but at some point I get a message that 'the system cannot find the file specified', and then it rolls back the install, deleting the download.

Set Up Passkeys And WEPs Wireless Home Network

Jun 29, 2009

I have the modem and router both in my room. It's a net-gear wireless router. I am hot-wired with Ethernet and so I do not use wireless Internet. My family and other computers however all use wireless. I am the only computer running windows 7, and my Internet is 100% perfect.

The problem I have is mostly with my father's desktop running XP. I have just barely started to Google and learn and what not how to set up passkeys and WEPs etc for a wireless network.

here is what I want. I want to set up the network so that ANYONE can join IF they have the password. Just one single password. not a ton of keys generated from a pass-phrase. Just one password that my father's desktop (with wireless card), my sisters laptop, and my girlfriend's laptop can all use and get Internet long as they apply the password to the network through their wireless card.

How do I set this up? is this possible? How do I do it? I can access my router (on my computer) and these are my options..

Home Wireless Network Connection Problem

Sep 24, 2012

If you have time to help me solve this problem I would really appreciate it. First off, I have a Samsung NP350V4C notebook with an Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter (currently up-to-date), the system I'm running on is a Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and my router is a TP-Link WR-740n. As of now,

I can connect to our router and internet nicely, but this is only possible because I just restarted our router. And probably (100% sure of it), if I restart, reboot, sleep my notebook, or simply press the disconnect button on my wireless connection list, I would have difficulty connecting again. By difficulty I mean, my notebook would continuously try to identify the network, and in between identifications says "no internet access" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on it.

So, again I have to restart the router just so I could connect my notebook to get wireless connection. Troubleshooting the network (by clicking on the red "X" mark on the network map between the home network and internet) doesn't help either. I also tried the ipconfig /release and /renew... does not help either, it just says media disconnected and such. One thing that amazes me that my notebook can connect to home wireless network flawlessly

Home Wireless Connection, Continually Identifying Network, No Internet Access?

Feb 9, 2011

I have recently been having difficulties with connecting with my wireless connection. We have a in-home router that is connected to two computer's downstairs by cable. I however own a Acer, Windows 7 laptop that I mainly use upstairs and I get a Excellent signal strength.I have connected to my Home wireless connection before with no problem but recently the connection keeps coming up as ~Identifying... No Internet Access. Also when I have had connection to this network prior to this problem the connection is under Home. But when I try to connect to the same network it comes up as Public or just keeps Identifying. I have the connection set to Connect Automatically. Also the yellow triangle with the exclamation point almost always pops up immediately when I reboot my system or after I Disconnect and Connect the network again. I have tried Disabling and Enabling the network in the adapter settings and this does not work either. In the manage wireless networks tab, I have repeatedly deleted the connection and reentered the security password and again put it as automatically connect but it still comes up as Identifying. I have seen many people with this same problem and have tried many of the suggestions to no avail. It is rather bizarre because my connection will be in this Identifying state for a while and randomly connect properly and I have no idea what makes it go off and on so erratically. I just had it working again for a few days and it is again acting up.

Home Network Set But Windows 7 Says Can't Join Homegroup, No Home Network

Oct 8, 2012

5 month old Dell XPS 8500 Win 7 64 bit Pro as main computer connected by Wired Adapter, Upgraded Gateway 5632E also running Win 7 64 bit pro as second connected by Wireless. Both running Kapersky successfully. no network problems for 5 mo.

Both were successfully linked using homegroup. Had to take Gateway to a remote location to do a business demo. While there had to link to a local public WiFi. While connecting made mistake and left homegroup.

When Gateway returned to homebase a few days later it was fine, had no problems finding wireless but could not see or rejoin Dell machine homegroup. It would let me set up a new homegroup.

Went to Dell box and found 1) homegroup no longer existed, 2) router and network and wireless printing no longer found - Red X on the taskbar) even though internet was still working fine.

Took nearly a week of trying differernt fixes, on adapter- off adapter- different adapter reboot network, router, even updated router firmware (Yes I went through every ipconfig reset, renew, redecorate etc. I've used netsh functions to try to get evrything to reset. Changes services.msc settings per other posts. Finally in desperation, deleted every sub key in the registry related to network locational awareness and got the Dell to find the network, let me set it up as a "home" network and then even see the invitation to join the Gateway's homegroup.

Then I hit a wall- when I try to join- Win 7 says I can't join the homegroup because the network is not a "home network". Of course troubleshooting is useless and goes into an endless loop. Have searched in desperation for any way to make Win 7 return to a clean slate so it can sense that it really is on a home network without success. Applied the fix-it and hotpatch for when Win 7 gets stuck in public mode. No joy. Deleted the hide wizard subkey as suggested elsewhere. No Joy. Gut feeling says problem must lie in the NLA or peer networking somewhere but where?

Does anyone know of a method or set of steps (short of a clean reinstall of Win 7) to completely clear every thing the OS knows about my network and force it to acknowlege my network is a home network? Is there a registry hack that will clear the problem?

I know I could abandon the homegroup and do conventional file/print share but I am concerned that using that solution won't last as whatever is screwing up the homegroup could eventually screw regular sharing and then I'm back to reformating/reinstalling. I'm just about ready to join the Apple folks so I never have to work on Windows again.

Windows Network Location: Public Versus Home At Home?

Jun 12, 2011

I'm reimaging one of my home systems that I intend to use as a "sterile" system (I will visit very a very limited selection sites on it, such as banking sites). I'm considering establishing the network location as "Public" instead of "Home", rationale being this would help prevent cross infection from other computers on my home network if they get a worm or virus. I do have friends that come over and hop on my network sometimes and who knows what contamination their systems have. Is this being overly paranoid? Will it cause annoying problems for this sterile system or other systems in my home network? I don't intend to share anything on this system with other computers on my home network. Seems to me that this ought to be the recommended setting for any computer always ... you can always share files using a USB drive if you really need to. Thoughts? Again maybe I am being overly paranoid. Back in the day there used to be worms that would look for ways to hop from system to system over the network, maybe that's much much harder these days. I do have a router between the DSL modem and my home network and I do run Norton Internet Security on all my systems?

Can't Setup The Home-group

Aug 30, 2011

Following the steps in the Homegroup tutorial on this site, I reach point 7, where it tells me to click on the Join now, button. However, that button doesnt appear on the screens of either machine that I want to network? Opening the home-group troubleshooter, I get a message telling me that some of the problem is network related (yeah?) and these need to be resolved first. I give the machine its head and it comes back with the response that the computers time is out of sync, on both machines. However, clicking on apply this fix, brings forth yet another screen saying Troubleshooter has completed, but was unable to fix all issues and that the problem is that my systems time differs from standard local time? I have visited the bios on both machines and made sure the times are as identical as I can get them. Ive also checked the time in control pannel.

File Sharing Across A Home Network - The Network Path Was Not Found"

Aug 9, 2011

I'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same. All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines. On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.

However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

Unable To See Home Network Computers In Windows Explorer Network Screen

May 14, 2012

Unable to see home network computers in Windows Explorer Network screen.

I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.

Network Constantly Changing Between Unidentified Public Network And Home

Aug 30, 2012

Home network with Wifi and ethernet. Using 3x Notebooks and 3x workstations. One of the workstations (W7 ultimate) keeps changing between Public and Home. When this happens, the internet connection dies. I cannot see other workstations either when on public network. Workstation using wifi. Does the same on cable. When it changes to Public, it disconnects from the internet and I cannot get to the router even though it has the workstation has an IP(DHCP or static). Default gateway and subnet is correct. TCP v4 is being used and nothing else is enabled.

Why is this happening?
- I have tried DHCP as well as Static addresses
- Reconfigured NIC(Netgear WG311T), uninstalled and reinstalled it.
- Removed Wifi connection and re-added it.
- Changed auth type, encryption type and keys to connection

Have I covered everything? The only thing different is that I installed a new router - Duo Plus 300wr. It cannot be the router because all the other notebooks connect to it wireless and so does my iPad, Android device and tablet...so it rules that out?

Single User Setup For Windows 7 Home Edition

Jun 26, 2011

My older Win XP laptop's hard drive failed.

I restored from Carbonite online back up service to my current Win7 Laptop. In the restoration process, it created a user from the previous machine's setup. I now have 2 user's which I would like to replace with "NO USERS" (since I am the sole user). (I use individual file passwords to protect my personal or confidential files.) I can live with one User which would have control over the entire computer rather than an Administrator with other users with different levels of access.

I am concerned with possibly losing access to the files under the new user if I delete the current users.

Windows 7 Home, Preconfigured PC First Startup: No Username Used During Setup?

Feb 13, 2011

Using a dime a dozen, store bought preconfigured PC running Win 7, during the initial setup out of the box, when you are at the user name/ computer name screen, I initially typed in a user name, but then did a "cut", deleting that name and I just entered a password to see if it would let me do this.

To my surprise it did, advancing me to the next screen with just a password.

When I got to the actual login screen and just typed in the password, but it wouldn't let me login. I tried the original user name with the password, but that didn't work.

The solution from Comtrash was to do a restore process, effectively reloading their version of the O/S.

Everything seems work prefectly. The client(iPad 2) loses internet browsing capability if I turn On the option to send all traffic however if the send all traffic is off then everything works fine. It's only my assumption that the reason why the internet works when the send all traffic is Off via my iPad 2 to the windows 7 machine is because it created a split tunnel which allows me to use the Internet without problems. My goal is to be able to turn On Send All traffic and it works.
