I'm using Outlook 2007 and an IMAP server through Godaddy (which I am quickly disliking after many years). I run several accounts, two of which are IMAP (the others are POP). This morning, all of a sudden, the previously retrieved messages on ONE of the IMAP accounts no longer appear in Outlook, despite being on the server -- I can see all of them via webmail. There is only one folder - the Inbox. The other IMAP account still functions normally (which is also through Godaddy), and all my saved folders that reside locally all function normally too -- none of that mail is gone as best I can tell.
I can receive new mail without issue, and send mail as well, but cannot access the old mail via Outlook. I don't get any error messages, I haven't changed any settings, and I've run Microsoft's "Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool" - SCANPST on all my PST files. The tool found errors in all the files, and it repaired them, but that has not changed a thing.

How do I remove imap.gmail.com from my Windows Live Mail 2011 account? I had configured my windows email with gmail, and I no longer want to do that. I can't seem to find a way to keep gmail from checking my mail through my Windows Live Mail account. I'm afraid if I delete my gmail account I would no longer have access to my Windows Live Mail account. I have gone to settings in gmail and disabled imap. When I did this, I no longer was able to send or receive mail in Windows Live Mail, so I had to go back and enable imap in gmail.

I am used to Outlook Express and when saving an incoming message I have the choice of which folder to save it to. Now I have Windows Live Mail and figure it must be the same in this regard, but I cant find any choice other than Save or Save as File. So, when I click Save it ends up in the Draft folder and then I have to drag it to the folder I really want it in. How do I save to other folders than the Draft one?

I am using Windows 7 in a Dell Inspiron and my live mail on my desktop will no longer open. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but my battery went dead while the computer was on two days ago, but I've been able to get into the mail since.Windows Live Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Live Mail message store. Windows Live mail was unable to locate the message database. If you've moved the database files to a new location, click OK to rest the database path to that location. Otherwise, click Cancel to proceed, any existing messages found will be available under Orphaned Accounts (0x00000000.2) If I click ok or cancel, I get: Quote: Windows live mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows live message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. (0x8007002) So far, to attempt to remedy it: Run a disk check Restarted three times Run Repair on the Live stuff Tried system restore to four days ago I even removed my anti-virus (temporary of course) None of the above has any affect. How can I save my emails without being able to open the mail program itself? As one of the few idiots, I did not back up my emails. Where are the located? I figure if I can find them, pull them into another folder and the reload the Live stuff.

I can't seem to find the setting for "leave mail on server" for Windows Live Mail.
I click on the account, go to properties and go to advance. The little box is not there that allows me to keep mail on the server.

I use IMAP for my mail accounts to have on all my machines the same mails. But the disturbing problem with this is that it seems that each mail client uses different folder names fo the same function ...
So I use the webmailer (to see all), MS Outlook (German), Thunderbird (English) Sent mails:sent, Gesendete Nachrichten Junk mails:Junk, Junk-E-Mails Deleted mailstrash, Gelschte Nachrichten
Is there a way to tell them to use the same folders? Also Im wondering is it not possible in IMAP to have a folder hold mails and subfolders?

I have imported my Outlook Express files into Live Mail (from an XP machine to a laptop running windows 7) using the import function in Live Mail. When I look in the Storage Folders there are no files to view. In the Quick Views I am able to read and see unread emails from Outlook Express but not emails that I have read on my XP machine. To do the import I copied the files from the XP machine to a USB stick and then on the laptop browsed to find the files on the stick. The folder containing the OE files in not read only.

After a clean install of Windows 7, I installed Office 2007. I also installed Windows Live Mail not to use it as an e-mail client, but only as an intermediate to import mail accounts. Therefore, I imported all my many e-mail accounts to Windows Live Mail from previously saved IAF files. Until here all worked as expected. The problem is that now, when I try to "Import internet mail account settings" from Windows Live Mail to Outlook it just answers "No internet accounts were found to import". How come?
Can someone please instruct me on how to overcome this problem, please?

I have installed Win 7 and Win Live Mail.I have my old OS (Vista) on a secondary Hard Drive and have managed to import all the messages from the old drive. Now I want to obtain my list of contacts but cannot see how. I have trawled through this question via the search box search and the nearest answer is to export them first. Unfortunately I did not do that.

This is quite a complex operation and MS doesn't actually explain how to do it so here goes.
The trick is to get your email messages into Outlook Express (OE on XP) or Windows Mail (on Vista) before you can import into Windows Live mail. Then the import can be done directly.
There isn't any way currently to import mail directly from Outlook to Windows Live Mail so you have to do it indirectly BEFORE installing Windows 7.
1) even if you don't use Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (VISTA) you need to have them running on the same machine as your copy of OUTLOOK.
2) create (if you haven't already) email accounts in OE or Windows mail identical to those you have in Outlook.
3) Now import your messages from Outlook into OE or Windows Mail.
4) Change the Store Identity in OE or Windows mail to a disk that your Windows 7 can read (do this under Maintenance - data storage locations in OE or Windows Mail).
Doing this saves you having to install Live Mail on Vista or XP
5) Logon to your Windows 7 system and install Windows Live mail.
6) Set up your email accounts
7) File ==> import==>messages
8) Chose Outlook express or Windows mail depending on step 3)
9) Browse to the directory where you stored the messages in step 4)
10) Job done.
A bit fiddly but obviously MS don't want to make it easy for people to switch from Outlook
Note also the "Send and Receive" function is calles "SYNC" in Windows Live mail -- confusing but there it is.
If you also installed Windows Messenger you can prevent it from starting automatically at startup by going to the Orb ==>acessories==>run. type msconfig and unclick windows messenger in the start up box.
There doesn't appear to be ANY method of importing mail directly from Outlook 2003/2007.

Ever since purchasing a new Dell PC with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail, I am being driven around the bend with mail problems.Previously with XP and Vista my mail through my ISP worked almost flawlessly. Now it seems that not only is my email is being wrecked by Windows Live Mail, but Microsoft is monitoring my private mail! Why am I receiving messages (below) from Microsoft re Live Mail and Hotmail? In effect it seems that Windows Live Mail is duplicating AND storing incoming mail on my ISP's server.

In Win XP, the contacts selection called up the contact name and e-mail in separate columns, so that you could sort the list by name or by e-mail address. Is there any way of doing that in Win 7?Occasionally I get an e-mail with just the e-mail address, but not a contact name, and I'd like to be able to find out who it is.

I have - quite stupidly, as I now think - installed Windows Seven on my old Vista on my Laptop without thinking about the Mail program at all. That is: neither did I make a backup nor did I export contact lists from Windows Mail, etc.
I was, however, able to import most of the stuff from Windows Mail into Windows Live Mail anyway. I took ownership of both Windows Mail folders (in C:Program Files and C:Program Files(x86) including subs 'n files, and tried the import function in Windows Live Mail - three times, I think.
I can't really tell whether or not all my messages are there, yet I can say for sure that what I find in the Storage Folders section in Windows Live Mail reproduces only a part of the filing system I had established in Windows Mail. That is to say: A lot of the folders I used to have in Windows Mail are simply missing. Are the messages that used to be in there missing, too? No idea so far... they might be in the Inbox or somewhere else.
To be sure, I have everything, that is: all my messages, on my webmail-account. Yet it took me forever to work out my huge filing system (including all the message rules, etc.) in Windows Mail which allows me to have more folders than my webmail account that is for some reason limited to 258 folders. So even although I know that in the end I do have all the messages on my webmail, I would just hate to have to do all that work again! Thus I'd just love to "simply" get my Webmail stuff imported as it was.
Any ideas what I might have done wrong? ...what I could do to retrieve the missing folders?
Alternatively: Is there any way to "simply" (I know what you're thinking...) reactivate Windows Mail in Windows 7 so that I can start over by properly exporting everything from there?
I have found some related topics but did not see anyone having this particular problem. If I simply overlooked it, sorry! At any rate: I'd appreciate any help you can offer!

I imported messages etc from the WindowsMail folder of my old Vista PC.
They were all imported to LiveMail, and if I do a search for a particular word, they come up.
But - I cannot find them anywhere in WindowsLiveMail. I've searched and seached.
They are not in 'Imported Folders' - or any other folder. All folders are empty.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Is there any way I can click on a message that comes up in Search, and find where it is?
I did try to install Windows Mail in 7, but was unsuccessful. I wonder if this is the cause of the problems. Has anyone done this succesfullly?

I upgraded my wife's computer from Vista to Windows 7 yesterday. Before starting the process I copied old Vista info to a second drive. I did not realize that Windows 7 did not utilize Windows Mail before starting the upgrade process (dummy me!).
In proceeding through the Dell provided upgrade disks, I selected Upgrade as my option.
Now, I am not able to Import my old Windows Messages into Windows Live Mail. The upgrade process created a folder called Windows.old and I have my separately saved Vista info on my other drive. My question is if the old Windows Mail messages are there specifically what folder do they reside in either of the two (or both) locations, and how do I get them into my Live Mail history.
Seems like there should be a way to do this, but it is not as simple as the canned instructions for importing e-mail.

Can this be done without having to export from Apple Mail to Outlook Express to Live Mail?
When I compare the contents of Apple Mail folders to Live Mail folders they appear to use a very similar file format.
Apple Mail uses .emlx and Live Mail uses .eml - when each file type is opened with a text editor they look fairly similar (in the sense that they're not just binary files).
The file naming seems a little different, and I don't understand the folder structures, but it would be great if somebody could help me move this stuff over.
I'm sick of using OSX - I've had two machines on the go for 9 months now: OSX for mail, iCal, and contacts, and Windows XP for serious stuff (the idea was to separate admin stuff from proper work - 3D in my case). Yesterday I bought some snazzy new guts for my old XP tower (an ex-Alienware) and bought Windows 7 x64 along with it.

I have an Excel spreadsheet that tracks document reviews. One form of evidence that a document has been reviewed is an e-mail from the reviewer (eg, "I've reviewed it and told John to make corrections as per the attached").
Aside from printing the mail to a pdf and saving it somewhere (which could involve printing each mail and attachment separately, then linking them together somehow), is there any way the mail itself can be saved in such a manner as clicking the link will open up the mail and all its attachments?

I had Outlook 2003 set up with two different mail accounts. One was a work account that I set up as an Exchange Server account so I could share calendar, contacts and all email folders. When I purchased a new laptop and migrated programs / data from and XP machine to the new Windows 7 machine I noticed that my work account had been converted to a pop3 account and no long enabled calendar sharing, sent folders,tc. and I could no longer send emails.I'd like to be able to have another Email Account so I can set it up in Exchange format, but I can not figure out how to do that in Windows 7.When I try to start Windows Mail from Programs menu it is missing. I assume this is due to an answer I gave during set up which leads me to believe Outlook 2003 is not wholly compatible with Windows Mail.If I want to continue to use OL2003 with Windows 7 should I just bite the bullet and set up my work account as a pop3 account, or is there a way to create a new mail account that I can set up in MS Exchange Server
