View 4 RepliesI open a txt file and edit it, then when I try to save it i can't. It offers to save it to the same location but as a different file. And if I try to just save it with the same name it won't overwrite the original. I just want to "save" and have it save the edit and close.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI missed some cmd.exe output today and I would really have liked to know what that was. I know it wasn't malware, but that's not the point Is there a way to make cmd.exe copy all it's output to a text file automatically or something similar that I could use to check back on what my system did there?I already checked google, it said there's "no way". Only with powershell, but that's not exactly what I want because I don't really do a lot of that stuff, but I'd come back to it, if nobody knows anything else.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy txt files are identified with the icon of another program, Sigil, in my windows explorer. When I open these files and try to update them I get the message that Sigil files can't be changed. I am sure there is an easy way to get rid of this identification as Sigil. As a matter of fact many of the files were created before I had Sigil. It just took over my txt files. It is NOT a question of the extension. They all have the .txt extension.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm setting up a batch file to run some adb commands on my android phone. I want to run a command and store the result into a variable for later use in the batch file.
Example command:
adb shell getprop ro.product.brand
That command outputs the brand of the device e.g. samsung. I want to capture that without displaying it into a variable that will be used later on in the script. I have the 3 adb files coped over to the scripts location so that it will run natively.
My son has the above printer which has been working normally for quite a while now suddenly when he wants to print something he is getting this message coming up 'output file name' how can I get rid of this message so as he can print as before. I have tried system restore as far back as I can go but problem persists.I have looked in devices manager and there is a yellow exclamation mark which I've always interpreted as driver not completely installed I have been online and saved printer driver to my flash drive still wont install.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a corrupt MTS file on my SDHC card. Windows cannot copy nor move this file, and says to run chkdsk to fix it. I've had experience with chkdsk fix, and don't want to do that (it chops the file into unusable pieces). Media Player is able to play 36 minutes of the file, even though it shows the file is 0 minutes long. I have not found any other software that can read more than a few minutes of the file. Is it possible to pipe Media Player's output to a new file on my hard drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Win7, the MS procedure for printing the output of a "print to file" operation [URL] doesn't work to a USB printer (HP DJ2050). Neither the correct port USB003 nor the LPT1: port works, even when I "Configure the Port" to include LPT1:. I can't read the file (it has no extension) in any program I've found. I see that I can do the same task easily by printing to .pdf, but is there any way to get back the receipt data contained in these "print to file" files??

Is there a simple (and cheap) way of doing this, short of buying Acrobat Pro?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis has been puzzling me since Vista and now Windows 7; at least now I know the reason...
The type of file being changed is .txt, .css, .html, etc. Open the file in Notepad, Dreamweaver, or any other HTML editor, modify the content, and save or "Ctrl+S" the file under the original name. Windows does not allow saving the file and presents this pop up:
Reducing the content of the file generally does not result in this error, depending on the level of reduction; addition on the other hand always does.
The culprit for this error is the Windows Explorer layout, more accurately the "Preview pane" under "OrganizeLayout" section. Explorer displays the content of the file in the "Preview pane" if and when the file name is highlighted. As far as Windows is concerned at that point, the file is "opened/owned" by Windows Explorer and as such, the system locks file editing by any other application.
It doesn't matter that both the Windows Explorer and the file in itself opened by the same user, evidently Windows Explorer process takes precedent over other application process when it comes to modifying file content. This file lock is temporary and last until the file name is highlighted or Explorer is closed. The permanent fix for this error is to disable Explorer's "Preview pane", especially for people who edit HTML files with Notepad or any other HTML editor.
Interestingly, none of the MS Office files display this error when editing word, excel, etc, files. Microsoft did make provision for the Office files; however, it isn't only Notepad that hasn't been accounted for. For example Microsoft Expression Web 3 also falls victim to this error:
The "Preview pane" is most certainly a feature that should behave the same across the board instead of being dependent on the file extension. Does anyone have an idea how to make Windows handle any file extension the same way as it handles Microsoft Office extensions?
Whenever I make a new text file by right clicking and selecting new text file, it says it is corrupt, but when I do it by opening notepad and selecting save as.. it works ok.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWith my Windows 7 Pro 32bit laptop(fully updated) I have issues with copy and paste. When I copy text from a file/document and then paste it into another file/document I have one of three things happen. One it will copy the text correctly, though if I press enter to go to a new line its as if the clipboard was emptied because I cannot paste again, two it will not paste anything as if I didn't copy before, or three it will paste a screenshot of what is currently on my screen into the document. If it does copy and paste correctly then when I open a new file or folder, the clipboard will empty so I can't paste the same thing into two different documents unless both documents were open when I fist copied the text. This issue also occurs whe trying to copy/cut files and move them to a new/different directory(if the paste location is not already open then the clipboard appears to empty).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop with Windows 7 64bit prof. and a laptop with the same. I have setup the homegroup and I am able to access all files on the laptop from the desktop and vice-versa. My problem is, my wife who uses the desktop wants to save new documents in the laptop which I use when in the office. for example: wife got an email on the desktop with an attached document that she wanted to save in the 'my documents' folder on my laptop. So when she selects save as and then selects the location on my laptop through the homegroup connection she gets the error message saying you need permission to to this, we tried it the other way by trying to save a document onto the desktop from the laptop and got the same message.
I am not an expert by any means with this sort of thing so if the replies could be as simple and clear as possible, cheers.
i need to have files in folders for admin staff but need them also in my program folders. it is tedious to modify one then save change to all other folders - this runs the risk of missing a version.is there a way without having to write a macro - or an easy way to do macros in office 2010

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan any one help me find an app that will help me do this? I want to automatically generate a line graph from a text CSV file that is matically and constantly generated by another software I have running. Then I want the graph to be displayed/posted to a particular directory on my website, so it can be browsed to and seen whenever needed.
The generation of the data set is done automatically, and a new data point is added to the text CSV file every 30 seconds. It is set up in columns, and I would only need 4 of the 8 columns to be graphed.
I guess the graph could be a jpg and be generated locally and uploaded via auto reoccurring ftp. Or, the data text csv file could be auto ftpd on a schedule to the web directory and the graph be auto generated there every time the text csv file is overwritten.
