I need to loan my laptop to a friend for a short period of time.I want to make it useable with access to Winword but little else.I have created an account with limited access to my files.What do I need to do allow this user to utilize my MS Word (winword) to do her own work on it?

we have a computer at school that's being shared by young students, but they get a kick out of deleting files. they have a shared folder on a separate partition for all their activities. it's okay if they can open or even modify each other's files, but we just don't want them deleting anything. is there a user policy/security setting that can make this possible?

General info tab says:

Today, I changed 2 of our computers (plan on doing them all) and now I am the administrator on those computers, I want to grant access to ALL documents, music, videos, etc. files that already exist on their PC's. really just want to block internet porn and the likes.

The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.I know it's not the website because other people I know can access them just fine.but there is an even stranger problem. When I do a google search in the URL bar, usually it works fine. but when I include the words "torrent" or "what" in the search, the browser crashes the same way. I can search for anything else and it works fine. But if one of those two words "torrent", or "what" is included, it crashes..

I tried the "take ownership" tweak from this forum, i set the appropriate rights but i still can�t copy a file to that dir.
I am about to transfer all the files pertaining to a project, copy them onto an external hard drive and give the drive to my client.There are 4 .VEG files (Sony Vegas files, my video editing software) that I would like to be protected. Meaning that only me can open those files. So that the client can't simply hire another dude with the same software and freely work on the project on his end. Actually I highly doubt that my client is even remotely capable of doing something like that but this is a security protocol I wanted to implement for a while and now is a good place to start.So is there a way to password protect those files or denying access altogether?

I've noticed, that it only happens when I restart, so when the thumbnails are created they probably stores at some location and after restart they are deleted. Is there a way to save those thumbnails or previews so when I access specific folders they will show right away with no delays?

I need/want full access to everything on the office-PC read/write. no problem easily done and I have had no issues currently until today. (64 bit win 7 system)
My daughter saved up and purchased a netbook [Morgan-Netbook] (OS:win 7 starter). I got her on the network and when connected it asked about homegroup so I said yes and now I see her and she sees me. BUT she has full read/write access to everything on the PC. I can access everything I would expect via the homegroup but then under the "network" icon I can see all my shared folders and she has way more access.
I would like her to have read access to pics, videos and specific folders but not necessarily everything else. I have tried adding her as a user in the sharing permissions but my Office PC only wants to see Location as "office-PC" so I cannot choose her from a list to restrict her access specifically. If I limit the access globally then I lose it for me as well. How do I limit access to just her so that she can see the folders we want but she only has READ access?
i have multiple family members in the household, along with two Windows 7 desktops and three Windows 7 laptops. All pc's are on the same workgroup with file and folder sharing working faultlessly - we do not use Homegroups.I have a large amount of important data on my desktop that serves as a data backup for all work I do on my laptop. On top of this it contains a large amount of media files that get shared to all pc's too. All communication is done over the network. However, as the other family members are far less tech savvy, shall we say, than I, I am growing concerned with how easy it would be for someone else to access my laptop backup work, as it is all business related, and do something disastrous to it.I would like to have it so that my laptop is the only machine allowed to access this backup data from my desktop. The rest of the shared folders on this desktop would have to remain accessible to 'everyone'.

However, I live in a very friendly household and my computer is in the main area. I allow other people to use the guest account on it all the time, but keep my own account with a password.
We also have many other computers on the same homegroup. I was wanting to allow just my account on my desktop complete access to some (or prefferably all) files on my laptop.
I tried going Local Disk (C Properties >> Sharing tab >> Advanced Sharing button >> 'Share this folder' checkbox >> Permissions button >> Add button
However when i had entered this I could not get my laptop to access any other locations that itself. It was there that I got stuck.
I've got a new PC running Windows 7 Home 64-bit. It works well and I'm very pleased.I've just tried importing my Outlook.pst file from my old computer (ran Win XP Pro) which died (partition got partially deleted). I've managed to access it using "Find and Mount" which will display the partition as a drive in My Computer and I can access all files bar those in "Documents & Settings" which it comes up saying I don't have permisson to access.I've tried to take ownership of these files, however I get an error saying "The media is write protected". Is there anything I can do to recover the files?

Now when i go to my windows.old folder i cannt find my: pictures, music, e.g.I remember doing the same thing with xp and i had to take owner ship of the folder. When i go to"users" the files there have a small lock on them but i can still open them up so why cant i open up c:documents and settings? and i disabled all the account from "computer management" and logged of and and started my PC in safe mode and opened admin account and enabled hec account and disabled all other accounts and then i restarted the PC and opened hec account and now i can see all my files and folders but it says i don't have the rights to access them . .
and when i open any folder in my desktop it shows semi-empty .. like for example my music folder it has nothing . .only the music that came with windows 7 and only the stock photos . . and also all the files and folders and my games . . etc shows with a little golden lock near the icon.

I successfully transferred all of my files from the old computer to the new.But, when I try to access my Music folder or Videos folder, I get a pop-up stating "You don't currently have permission to access this folder". I am the adminstator of the computer with no one else having those rights so why would I have this problem . View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a sudden hard drive crash and have a system image back up on an external drive.I can't remove and replace the hard drive from the computer because there is about 2 inches of space to get a screwdriver in.I plugged my external drive into a laptop and followed the procedure for attaching a .vhd file.I have two files backed up on the same evening for some reason, 54 GB and 90GB.I couldn't get the 90GB vhd to attach properly until I unchecked the read only tab, it mounted, but I couldn't access any files.I clicked on the file, it asked me to click continue with admin control to permanently give access, it takes a few mins to load...but no files to open.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to access and change files on my main pc, from my laptop which is in a different room, same with my wife's pc as well.Each time I go the network, I can see the computers, but each time I want to access files it comes up asking for password and user name.I have never set a user name or password and it is confusing the hell out of me to sort this out....
1.do I have to make sure the files are in a particular place, and saved in that place all the time?
2.can I not make "my documents" available to my wife and my laptop, and vice versa if they are swtiched on?

when I to run certain EXE's from my external desktop HDD i get "windows can not access the specifed device, path or file, you may not have the approriate permission to access the file" - when i check permisions for my user account they do not have full control, when i set full control it just resets back to read only

So I'm all formatted with Windows 7 Ultimate re-installed and I'm trying to move all the files back. For whatever reason, a couple pictures (.jpg) and a couple videos (.avi) will not move or open. They were all contained in the same folder.
It was saying access denied and I needed permission from S-1-5-....gigantic number. So I changed the ownership and permissions of the files and the folders. Now it says I need permission from myself (Laptop/Kevin). I am the only account and have administrator privileges.
