View 3 Replies View RelatedIn a few days time I will be changing my ISP in the UK from Sky to BT.
BT are providing me with their newest wireless router free of charge as part of the deal and I'll be using that to set up my wireless network, which will consist of an HP Pavilion desktop, a Toshiba laptop, a Sony Vaio laptop, an HP wireless printer and a Samsung HDTV.
This means my Sky wireless router is surplus to requirements, so I was wondering if I could convert it to a wireless access point to improve the range of my BT wireless network.
I've read a couple of supposedly easy-to-understand articles on Google and have to say they left me more confused than ever.
Is there a way to setup your computer to connect only to a specific wireless router in your area? I live in a college dorm and there are a lot of wireless connects available so I'm thinking that there might be complications with my computer with all the information in the air.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering to myself in Wal-Mart if I should get myself one of those USB routers for my Nintendo DSi, PSP and laptop computer. I mean I would love to have one so i can use the browsers in them and for updating/online gaming. but at the same time I think that since I have dial up it would be a waste of money to buy something that SHOULD be used on a cable/satellite connection. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the matter, cause I can't come up with an answer myself.

I recently built my own gaming pc, spec'd as follows:
Asus Rampage IV Formula
Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
I73930k
GTX 680
120gb ssd
etc.
I have installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit with no real problems. Except the internet connection! I have Sky Broadband which has a Sky router. I can connect my laptop wirelessly so i know it works ok. The only way my 'new' desktop will connect to the Sky router is by using an Ethernet cable. It simply cannot connect to it wirelessly.
My Comcast router is wireless and I would like to use my old Netgear router to receiver the signal so that I can use two computers in my basement that do not have wireless cards. Can the router be setup to receive the signal and distribute it even though it was designed to do the opposite?

View 6 Replies View Relateduse my laptop just fine down a 40 foot hall way and through a kitchen and 2 more rooms wirelessly(admitedly with a mediocre connection).
About 2 days ago it was giving me sporatic messages after a restart claiming my network settings did not match the ones saved on my laptop. The only change that was made was adding all but one roomates devices to an access list on the router (since the jerk wouldnt shut off bit torrent while people were working). Some other people were noticing some screwy occurances too but dont recall the symtoms so I just set it back to factory default and removed the access list. Everyone else seemed to be fine
Yesterday I cannot see the router on my laptop, I cannot see my neighbors (sporaticly I usually would see 1 bar pop up but now I can't find it at all) I can pick up my router wirelessly only when I have direct line of sight to the router and only 4/5 bars 0,o , so that rules out a lot of choices in its self since it sees it, just not very well.

I have a BT HH downstairs but all my computer bits are upstairs, 99% of the time I use the laptop and it's wireless connection. I also hook the Xbox 360 up into the laptop with a cable and use the bridge feature so I can get online with the 360 (and avoid having to buy the extra hardware). However, I also have a 2nd computer up here, it doesn't have a wireless card in there but I'm all for re-using old parts if I can make use of it. I have a 2nd router here, a wireless netgear one that came with my old Virgin set up. I was just thinking is it possible to hook the PC into the netgear, then the netgear into the laptop and use it's wireless connection like I do with the 360 ? Or could the netgear connect directly to the BT HH via it's own wireless magic ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to switch from a wired network to a wireless network. Santa is bringing a new laptop. I guess the best way is to change routers. Not sure what to go with.I currently have 2 desktops, PS3 and a TV on the wired network. Ive looked at and read the reviews on a Linksys-Newegg.com - LINKSYS E3000 Wireless Router simultaneous Dual Band Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4GHz / 5GHz up to 300Mbps with USB Built-in UPnP AV Media Server and an Asus-Newegg.com - ASUS RT-N16 Wireless Router 802.11b/g/n up to 300Mbps DD-WRT Open Source support with USB Storage, Printer And Media Server. For the most part the reviews are good but there a bunch of bad ones. Just wondering if any one brand is considered more reliable than the others. I don't know anything about open source firmware. Its mentioned quite a bit in the reviews.
View 5 Replies View RelatedGot a new Asus laptop. Tried to connect to wireless router, but I always get no network access and an unidentified network. Some data points: I have a D-Link DIR-625. This could be the problem since it is from 2007, but technically it is compatible with Windows 7. All other devices (Windows XP laptops, smartphones, etc.) connect with no problem to the wireless router. The LAN on the new laptop connects fine to the router when I plug it in. Only the wireless does not work. I have read online forums for 4 hours trying to figure things out but haven't had luck. I think I've tried everything. I have attached the ipconfig /all below. Oh, and my computer does not have Bonjour installed, which apparently has caused this issue for others.
