I have been struggling with my pc dropping internet connection and not seeing the router as well as it freezing at random times, from 5mins use to several hours, but lately its alot more. Its a cyberpower system machine I bought in oct 2008, its had ALOT of use. See below for system specs below please if needed. It will freeze at all sorts of times, does not matter which application I have open. I have to hard reboot. It will also freeze on shutdown sometimes. I get all sorts of errors on connection loss, it will say the default gatway not available, it will ask me to reset my router too. It resets Local Area Connection adapter all the time, when I try to resolve the issue. It also says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration, and resets all my settings back to Obtain IP addresses automatically, as well as Obtain DNS server address automatically in the Internet Protocol Version 4 settings. If I put all the IP addresses and default gateway stuff back in without resetting the router, it then says Troubleshooting couldn't find the problem. Resetting the router usually does work. But not always, sometimes I need a restart. It Sometimes it works if I restart, sometimes it still won't see the router.
I tried putting the IP address in as static, put in the subnet mask, and default gateway.I use the Preffered DNS server IP in there as it helps use network gaming and platforms better like SecondLife.I've tested the router network with same cable I use on another laptop so the cable is fine.Changed ASDL filters twice.Bought new router.I've replaced my harddrive.I've tried two different driver versions for my network card which is a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller I've resit my memory.Tried restoring system to a few days before it started freezing again.I've reinstalled windows a few times now, usually it works for a while (week or two) after a fresh new install. Its a fresh new windows 7 I bought as the machine came with vista.I've manually tried to put in all the drivers I need myself as I don't have the disk that came with my machine. (I have no idea if I've done that right)Sent it in for a service clean and checkup.Turned off the option that windows shuts my network driver down to save on power.
SYSTEM SPEC:
(Left out actual IP address numbers from communication, I have no idea if that is safe to forum lol*)
Operating System new - server roles
Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
Install Language: English (United States)
System Locale: English (United Kingdom)
Installed: 04/11/2011 00:49:01

So lately I have been disconnected from the internet every now and then. Usually I just power cycle my modem and router and move on. But today it happened twice so I need to figure out the problem. I powered cycled the modem alone, and I still had no connection. I power cycled the router and I had connection after so I'm assuming it's the router to blame. The router plugs into my modem, and the ethernet cord from the router goes into one of these: Amazon.com: Dynex DX-EHB4 - Hub - 4 ports - Ethernet - 10Base-T - DC power - external: Computers & Accessories. My PC, Xbox and PS3 are all connected to that. Also during this time my iPhone couldn't get internet through WiFi. I have the D-Link DIR-655 as my router.

I got a new laptop 3 days ago after my old laptop of 4-5 years finally decided to die. Now, with this laptop, ever since I've had it I keep having problems with the wireless losing connection to the internet. On my previous laptop this never used to happen and it was Windows vista. This laptop is Windows 7. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the network adapter, searched online for a new driver (used device manager to do this because I can't seem to find any drivers just using Google) and there was no newer driver available. I've checked the power options to make sure that it doesn't get disabled or w/e due to power saving. I've un-ticked the box in the power management tab in my network adapter's properties so that it doesn't get turned off to save power. I've also uninstalled Norton to see if that was causing the issue. The network adapter I have is an Atheros AR9485WB-EG. The drop outs usually happen when I speedtest, do Windows Updates or any kind of updating for that matter and when I try and torrent. If I move my laptop from where it currently is and put it in another room, the internet is fine. So I'm thinking it's the wireless card in my laptop. And as I said above, I never used to have any of these problems with my 4-5 year old Windows Vista laptop.

Acer Aspire 7745 Notebook (purchased 10/25/2010)Win 7 HP 64-bit (build 7600) (last update 11/11/2010)Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter (5.60.48.35)Since the last update, the wireless network keeps dropping its connection randomly. Windows Network Diagnostics says it can't connect. Status shows limited connection. Manual disconnect and re-connect says "Not in range" although it shows in the available networks with strong signal. Disable and re-enable causes the entire system to lock up and I have to power down. The only reliable way to reestablish a connection is to reboot or wait some random amount of time until the system decides to recognize the wireless network again.

I have Desktop A upstairs unto which a wireless router is connected for various devices.Downstairs I have a laptop that I use to connect to the wireless network. I also have Desktop B downstairs. I have an ethernet cable connected from my laptop to Desktop B.There is no drop downstairs so I wanted to connect the desktop somehow. I've enabled the wireless adapter to allow other computers to use its connection to connect to the internet. However, 2-4 times a day the connection simply stops.I don't have any of the computers on Homegroups or anything. All network drivers for all devices (wireless and wired) are updated. Using a Belkin N3000 wireless router.

I've been all over the internet, looking for ways to fix my laptop connection - with no success so far.
I'm simply trying to connect my laptop to my router (they connect perfectly fine and the signal strength is excellent) the only problem I'm having is that the connection is dropping every few minutes, leaving my web browser to continuously load. I've tried connecting other laptops and they work flawlessly, without any issues so I'm really stumped why my brand new, 1600 laptop is giving me so many issues!
System: ASUS G74S Series
Network Adapter: Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter
I've looked at my connection status in Network & Sharing and I noticed that no matter where my laptop is place, it will always remain at 65mbps
Code: C:UsersJordan>IPCONFIG/ALL

For the last 3 months my internet keeps dropping in and out, sometimes for a long period of time. But it always shows full bars in the wireless network connection on our computers. I have been on the phone to the internet company for hours and hours (each time speaking to a different person-so no help there) and they can't figure out what is wrong.
They sent me a new modem which worked for 10 mintues and then was dropping in and out again. The same issue is happening on my roommate's computer too, and I am able to access other wireless networks in other locations too with no trouble. So not an issue with our computers.

In a few days time I will be changing my ISP in the UK from Sky to BT.
BT are providing me with their newest wireless router free of charge as part of the deal and I'll be using that to set up my wireless network, which will consist of an HP Pavilion desktop, a Toshiba laptop, a Sony Vaio laptop, an HP wireless printer and a Samsung HDTV.
This means my Sky wireless router is surplus to requirements, so I was wondering if I could convert it to a wireless access point to improve the range of my BT wireless network.
I've read a couple of supposedly easy-to-understand articles on Google and have to say they left me more confused than ever.

Is there a way to setup your computer to connect only to a specific wireless router in your area? I live in a college dorm and there are a lot of wireless connects available so I'm thinking that there might be complications with my computer with all the information in the air.

I was wondering to myself in Wal-Mart if I should get myself one of those USB routers for my Nintendo DSi, PSP and laptop computer. I mean I would love to have one so i can use the browsers in them and for updating/online gaming. but at the same time I think that since I have dial up it would be a waste of money to buy something that SHOULD be used on a cable/satellite connection. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the matter, cause I can't come up with an answer myself.

I finally got Windows 7 reinstalled again, but now I can connect to my wireless router.
I tried setting up a new wireless network, for some reason it's trying to do a WAN miniport (PPPOE)
That doesn't look familiar from before? But either way once I enter username & password it isn't connecting?

I recently built my own gaming pc, spec'd as follows:
Asus Rampage IV Formula
Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
I73930k
GTX 680
120gb ssd
etc.
I have installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit with no real problems. Except the internet connection! I have Sky Broadband which has a Sky router. I can connect my laptop wirelessly so i know it works ok. The only way my 'new' desktop will connect to the Sky router is by using an Ethernet cable. It simply cannot connect to it wirelessly.
