Dec 5, 2009I have a new Win 7 PC. I have an existing two XP PC home network. The existing network successfully shares files and a printer. Integrating the new Win 7 PC into my network, I have been half successful. I have internet access through the existing router on all three PCs and I have printer access on all three PCs since moving the printer to the Win 7 machine. Both XPs can see the Win 7 machine on the network.
This is where things go off the rails for me though. The Win 7 machine cannot see anything in its network except itself and the router. Keep in mind that certain apps can see back and forth. Windows Easy Transfer was able to see my XP machine from the Win 7 machine and move all my files over just fine. Norton NIS 2009 can see all 3 PCs from all 3 PCs and interact with each perfectly fine.
Likewise, the XP PCs aren't quite there yet either. They alternate between having 100% access to the Win 7 public USERS share and having no access at all - with no changes being made to the setting. Currently it is not accessible and I might not have permission to use this network resource. Interestingly with the XP to Win 7 connection fails, it fails on both XP computers at the same time. Either both work just fine or neither works at all.
All three PCs are in the same workgroup. All three have the same user account names and passwords. In Win 7, Network discovery is on along with all the other Advance Network Sharing features. I am currently sharing the Win 7 shares with Everyone. I have tried shutting the firewall off and leaving it on. All three are set at Full Trust for NIS 2009.
Cannot Access Existing XP Network
Jul 14, 2011Currently I have an internal network (no internet access), with a few XP workstations conencted via a hub, working fine. When I added a Win 7 computer, it cannot connect to the network. It says "unidentified network" and when I run troubleshooter, result is "does not have a valid IP configuration." Note that all the XP computers are using the NetBIOS protocol; TCP/IP is not selected.

May 23, 2011i just bought a dell latitude D40 which has win 7 starter installed for the OS. i have 3 other pc's all networked (home network) together and all have win xp prof. i would like to network the the dell (win 7 starter) to the other 3 computers but after doing some research i find that one of the pc's on the network must have win 7 for an OS.just to be sure i'm understanding correctly, is this true ? I'm probably going to have to reformat and reinstall windows on one of the pc's on the network pretty soon. when i reinstall windows, could i install win 7 starter or would i need to install the full blown version(so that i can network the laptop to the other 3 already on the home network

Aug 25, 2011I have 3 computers all running 64bit Windows Home premium all have 802.11n cards. 2 have no problem connecting to the wireless network the 3rd can see the network but won't connect or has the dreaded yellow exclamation mark with limited connectivity.
This seems to be a windows issue but not sure. When I look at the wireless profile in windows it says the security is WEP but the router is set up as WPA-2. I have tried changing the setting in Windows to WPA-2 but that then generates another error in the network discovery window saying the settings are not correct or something to that effect.
1) I have reinstalled the driver didn't work.
2) I have removed the security altogether didn't work.
3) reset the router didn't work (Although as stated earlier the other 2 computers connect with no problems)
4) Deleted wireless profile and started again didn't work.
The following worked untill I restarted the computer but would not after that even if I applied the same steps.
1) Assigned a static IP - This worked but once I restarted the computer it would no longer connect. Tired different IP address from 192.168.1-149. No joy
2)Copied the network profile from both the other machines same result as #1.
PC Unable To See Wireless Network
Sep 25, 2011Prior to Saturday morning, my computer was able to detect the router and connect to the internet. However, as of yesterday, my computer is no longer able to see any wireless networks.My dad did change the frequency of the router yesterday, but all the other PC's in the house are able to connect again - except for mine. I've tried rebooting the livebox, rebooting my PC, pressing the wi-fi button, changing my adapter's usb slot and also reinstalling my adapter's drivers. None of these have made a difference.

I have another AIO computer using Windows 7 that will only connect to one of the networks although both the networks appear on the list of available networks and the signal strength indicates excellent on the network that won't connect. I disconnect the network that I can access, try to connect to the other but I get the advice that the computer cannot connect. I have typed in the correct codes, do everything as on other computers but it just won't connect on this one. After a few seconds the computer automatically connects to the previous network.
