I put in a password for my account and after 10 minutes of in activity, the user is locked out and I have to enter my password. How do i prevent this? I need the password because I am using LogMeIn (free remote computer access) and i am required to have a password, not a blank one.
View 9 RepliesHow do I prevent Win 7 from automatically downloading the HP Laserjet 2800 driver for my Epson AL M2800 printer? This driver becomes the default driver (and does not work) over the Epson Universal Laser P6 (which does work). Everyday, when turn on my computer, the HP driver is reloaded (no way to stop it). Unless I remove it, I cannot make the Epson driver the default. I've tried GPEDIT.MSC to enable and disable auto downloading where appropriate, but zilch. Also tried to alter Windows update so that it would ask me, but it doesn't.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo Windows 7 has a feature that will auto-adjust the volume during video chatting. Seems like a good idea but in reality it just brings down the volume to a point to where I cant even hear the person. I have done some research on this but everything I could find said to go to Sound Settings -> Communications Tab -> and check the box that says "Do Nothing".I did this but it had no effect on Live Messenger. I downloaded Yahoo Messenger and it doesn't have this audio problem. I would much rather use Live Messenger because the video quality is MUCH better than other video chatting programs but I cant seem to get passed this problem.

I was wondering if there is a way to Auto log on but still have a password.I want it to log in and not stop at the log in screen. So it will do a full boot with out user intervention, but still require a password to access the computerReason being is my netbook takes forever to log in to. But I still want the added security of a password. was thinking about a script file that will lock the computer, placed in the start up folder, but it would be annoying to be on the desktop doing stuff then get sent to the lock screen, when the start up scripts finely runs. (being one of the last things to run). It would be simple to by pass, by deleting the script before it has a chance to run when the computer logs in.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a local group policy to lock down a Windows 7 Pro Workstation for use in the Staff room.It's the first time I've used it, previously I've worked a bit with AD. but I've been following on line tutorials and using google and I'm nearly there with it.But I'm stuck on one thing. My approach has been to remove access to pretty much everything apart from IE, Firefox and Skype icons on the task bar. I've got the start menu empty apart from the shutdown button, which is what I want but at the top of the start menu is the users icon/picture thing and if i click on it it takes me to "user accounts". I can't for the life of me work out how to get rid of the picture or just stop this happening.

one weird thing happens im not sure if its related... When i lock the computer, or gets locked by screen saver etc, when i try to logon it gives me incorrect password, i then click switch user and type my password and its ok..

Accounts with parental controls on to enable time restrictions are beyond annoying because the require a password to install or download any update or program, and many programs require passwords to use.
How can I bypass this idiotic "feature" while still enabling time locks.
I was uninstalling windows live essential on my profile and added ms office outlook 2007 for email. For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. I have tried moving the entire folder as administrator and received a not responding message.Short of a restore in which I will lose data is there a way to 'import' her profile under a new user and then delete the corrupted profile?

It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a Asus U36J laptop back in April of last year and ever since then I have been beating around an issue that I dont seem to be able to resolve one way or the other. When ever the laptop is on battery and in battery saving mode it has my taskbar on autohide. If I turn that off, then it stays off right until it is put back into battery saving mode at which point it is "magically" ticked on again.
Is there no way to simply disable that feature, as its annoying me greatly. I know its tied into the battery saving desktop, and I want to keep the battery saving desktop but want a full taskbar all the time. I found a supposed fix to make that happen, and while it actually makes the taskbar appear all the time, it still is a bad hack as any windows I have open wont "attach" to the taskbar but attaches to the buttom of the screen.
So for the love of god is there no sane way for me to keep the battery saving desktop but get rid of the autohiding taskbar. Otherwise I know Asus most likely wont be my laptop of choice next time aroumd.
I installed a second HDD on my laptop that can have up to 4 different HDD. I have a XP running on the first HDD. I just installed Windows 7 Premium 32bit on the second HDD. When the installation was done, Windows 7 can see and access the folders/files/drives from the first HDD. How do I restrict this? I knew how to do this with XP but I can't figure out how to do this with Windows 7. Basically, I don't want the Windows 7/Second HDD interacting with the first.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

Since I have a PS3 but access to only one ethernet port, I've bridged my two motherboard ethernet adapters and plugged my PS3 into my computer so they can share the connection.I'd like to know if it's at all possible to configure Windows somehow to prevent it from going to sleep while there's any activity over the network bridge. Obviously I prefer to keep Windows' power saver scheme intact or I'd just disable sleeping entirely. However I don't want to have to reach over to the computer and bumping the mouse every ten minutes as I'm playing to prevent it from sleeping and cutting off my PS3's network connection.
