Auto-log On, But Still Have A Password Or Lock Computer?
Nov 2, 2011
I was wondering if there is a way to Auto log on but still have a password.I want it to log in and not stop at the log in screen. So it will do a full boot with out user intervention, but still require a password to access the computerReason being is my netbook takes forever to log in to. But I still want the added security of a password. was thinking about a script file that will lock the computer, placed in the start up folder, but it would be annoying to be on the desktop doing stuff then get sent to the lock screen, when the start up scripts finely runs. (being one of the last things to run). It would be simple to by pass, by deleting the script before it has a chance to run when the computer logs in.

I have recently installed windows 7 home premium and never set a password upon installation (it's a home pc and didn't feel the need to - bad call I'm sure!).Anyway...I restarted my pc today and it is now asking for a password. I have no idea what this could be. I tried everything I know...I did not install any new software. I did however install windows updates. Do you have any idea what happened and why it's asking me for a password? Is there some default password? I did a google search for quite a while and found nothing.

We just got a new computer that included Windows 7 software. My simple question is this. When we walk away from the computer for awhile and return to do something, the screen locks up and asks for a password which I recorded when we first set up the computer. I don't want to have to type in a password each time someone wants to use the computer since this is our family, home use computer. How do I turn off this option?

Accounts with parental controls on to enable time restrictions are beyond annoying because the require a password to install or download any update or program, and many programs require passwords to use.
How can I bypass this idiotic "feature" while still enabling time locks.

I have Windows 7 Pro 64, with two accounts, both admin.A few weeks ago I tried to update one of the passwords (change it from Pass1 to Pass2, for example).I was able to do it, log off and back on using the new password. All worked fine. However, as soon as I rebooted the PC the password became Pass1 again. I tested it several times.... always the same behavior.I also tried the password reset CD... the result is the same.

In schools they often lock down their computers so that it boots the same image every time, and none of the changes from the users are stored when they shut down the computer. I'm looking to do this for my HTPC aswell. I want to set it up to boot the same image for my C-partition every time, I'm storing all the my databases with mediainfo and watched tags on a separate partition so that info should still be saved after a shutdown.

im having a bit of an issue, im looking for something very specific, some kinda software where i can just initiate a lock on my computer, see i have 3 kids and my sons usually enter my room and totally destroy my desktop, along with opening many instances of games, even sending out email haha, doing things they are not suppose to be doing.
Anyway, i figured hey ill just put a really short screen saver password on my computer, well they still play with it, trying to use or get into it, they end up shutting it off via the button in the log in screen area after u move the mouse to deactivate the screen saver.
Im wondering if one of you guys know out there something i can run to lock my computer up while im not using it, but still keep running my programs/servers in the background, similar to a screen saver password only with no option to shut my computer off, i can disable the screen saver password in light of some other software where i could maybe just double click on something and then enter a password when i want to unlock it
if anyone has or knows a good piece of software they trust they can suggest to me im more then willing to give your suggestions a try, a quick Google search yields some results however i have trust issues, "what if i lock myself out of the computer permanently..etc" and would rather have some experienced users , plus maybe it will serve others looking for the same thing in the future

My wife's laptop has developed a bad habit of randomly locking up to the point you have to hold the power button to shut the laptop off. I'm just wondering if it's possible to get Windows to write a crash dump off events like that, or is that at the point where it's just not going to happen even with the correct options selected?
The laptop is a HP G62 Notebook PC running Windows 7. More exact information can be provided if needed.

There are now several ways of locking a computer to block things like internet surfing during a specific time period. I have unfortunately found a problem. All that one needs to do to defeat these programs is to change the system time. I use Kaspersky which allows blocking applications from operating. Is the system time controlled by an accessible software so that it could be blocked from being changed?

I followed the procedure found on the web, I entered "netplwiz" and did unchecksers must enter a user name and password to use this computer". There is no password setTHere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator. (the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon

I had my computer do this awhile ago, but I had fixed it. My GPU fan wasn't spinning, causing it to overheat and then auto restart to prevent damage. This is no longer the issue as my graphics card fan is fully functional and my temperatures are now what seem to be normal. This isn't a gaming GPU, but I'm not really playing any stressful games. I have a AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB, and I'm playing Minecraft. I downloaded a program to monitor temperatures and my graphics card never rises above 121* F while playing Minecraft. After awhile of playing Minecraft or any other mildly stressful application, my computer auto restarts. I know it is not my CPU, which never rises above 65* F. I cannot imagine what could be overheating, or if that is even the problem. No recent hardware changes, nor software changes.
