Benefits from modification? anti-benefits? how to cool down hp dv6 PC; I understand that one could downgrade the BIOS; I understand that an F16 downgrade for hp dv6 would be good at keeping system cooler. View 1 RepliesMy pc won't logon anymone, the pc lost power while it was in standby and I can't seem to boot it anymore.I'm stuck at just after you put in your password, the spinning circle & welcome screen. I can still move the mouse ( 2nd screen shows mouse movement) and press any of the lock keys so the pc is not frozen, it's as if it is waiting for something.The res is fine on both my screens and I did get audio when it went to the logon screen.The HDD led is not burning.It's simply doing, erm, nothing.It DOES boot into safe mode normally.chkdsk found no problems.Windows startup repair says no problems and successful boot.One more thing, in the logon screen where you enter your password, the other pop up menus like the accessibility menu or the menu to reboot/shutdown/standby/hibernate/etc also DO NOT work if I try that instead of logging in, I click on them and it's like the logon screen freezes but I can still move the mouse. this does not happen in safe mode.No changes have been made since 16 jun, no windows updates, perhaps an app update or 2 ( avast upgraded to v7 iirc, required reboot and this is the first time I cold booted in weeks/I haven't rebooted it since after the last batch of updates around the 16th). I usually do not turn my pc off ever, this is the first cold boot in 2 weeks so It's hard for me to say what changed, but I know it was not a windows update or anything as I only do those manually once per 1 or 2 months.

But when I change Processor Power Management at 5% min and 80% max in power plan at both battery and plugin, so when I am in Windows everything works fine, but when I start a game in full-screen, this power plan will change to 100% for max and min, and stay like that. I change it as Administrator. It is on laptop Toshiba A300D.But before this last reinstall everything works fine.

Anyway, I am now combing through the Event Viewer + resource monitor and I came across "event 35" with the source kernel-processor-power the text associated says "Performance power management features on process or 1 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer mfgr for updated firmware" - anyway I have a bunch of these errors.
Googled for 'event 35' and found nothing - anyone have more detail on this event and how to solve it?
It fits the socket but does it have to support the CPU as well? I want to buy a cooler and i see in the description that other than the socket they also list what CPUs are supported.

Shuttle says maximum size is 75mm X 75mm x80mm.I saw a few threads on micro ITX coolers here and wondered if anyone had any advice or recommendations. All of micro ITX coolers I have seen on-line are much larger or have no specs.Technologically impaired 60 y/o (second build, but most of it was free & so I grabbed it not realizing how hard it would be to get older parts.)

I have a 100% CPU Load, using very few ram, and my laptop fan i NOT on, and I'm at 41-43 Degrees Celsius... thats great, where usually my fan would be going nuts. As i am much tooooo lazy to write a tutorial to do this, please check out this link, its on a "under-volting" guide i followed closely, and now my laptop is great. Please remember to STRESS TEST!!!! or you will BSOD a lot... :-) Good luck to all those with laptops!

Not having that in my box (now) I saw the Universal Retention Kit 3 having seen that the Universal Retention Kit 3 was not compatible with my 1155 socket after all I have been advised that it will work with the mounting bracket I have been looking for here: LGA1156 & 1366 Mounting Clips Note: on the German site it says it works with 1155 sockets as well as 1156 and seen as they both share the same size CPU I don't see any problem with this, do you?

I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?

(I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws.The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

I have my OS on a seperate drive from everything else, so is there a way I can reformat and install the release copy of the OS onto the OS drive so that all of my other programs will still work (registry and appdata folder stuff intact I mean), without ending up with a seriously unstable OS because I've reintroduced registry entries and other faults from the old OS?
Please let me know if this is possible, and also if I've made my request clear enough.
My system is continuously losing space, down to the last megabyte, even without using it. I've tried deleting all but my last system restore point, and even so, that only uses up 15% so I'm told. I've deleted all unnecessary programs down to the bare essential stuff, I've cleared internet history/cookies often, I've deleted gig after gig of my music until it was gone, and I have virus protection software that hasn't brought up anything major. It's not going away in chunks, just megabytes at a time. I've done everything online I can find, and nothing stopped it, what's happening here?
