I want to remove something from my start up list but I'm not used to the Window 7 that this laptop has. I have a Compaq Presario CQ60-420US Notebook PC. Can some give me a clue as to where to find the start up list & then how to stop a program from running at startup. I just don't need the SuperAnti spyware to run until I need it, I don't think.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently my Acer PC has had the Blue Screen of Death. Now when I boot the pc it goes straight into Startup Repair. The first time it did this it did not find a solution but I was able to go to a backup and when it restarted I was able to successfully load. I then started transferring files to my usb. As I was transferring a lot of my files, I can't remember if I got another BLOF or it just restarted but ever since then it just boots straight into Startup Repair, which cannot find a solution, but I have used my backups already so I don't have any more backups to go to.[CODE]

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently using windows 7 ultimate x64. I was in the middle of a process restoring my computer to a few days back and suddenly it froze. I did a power shut down and when I turned it back on, I wasn't able to get back into windows. I was brought to startup repair and it gave me errors. 'Boot manager failed to find OS loader'. There was options for restoring, but all my restore points were gone. Recovery wasn't able to find image backup.
"Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically". I was told to go into safe mode to restore, but whenever I enter safe mode, startup repair would take over and shows the same errors, also I read a tutorial using a repair disc ( made a copy of it on someone elses ultimate x64 computer) and I get the 0x00000e9 error if i boot from disc. What can I do? As of now I don't have the installation disc with me. I wont be able to get hold of it until tomorrow. There's a lot of important files in that hard drive and I really cant lose any.
Ever since I bought my new computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit Pro I have noticed that sometimes when I start my computer the startup locks up or crashes, requiring me to restart or it takes me to the system repair screen and running this process does nothing.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi used to get the BSOD very often so i decided to recover the system to the initial state . i did that and everything was fine , then i updated the windows 7 service pack 1 and finished the installation and rebooted my computer , the start-up at least took half an hour at that time and the service pack 1 installation showed "not successful " i tried to again to update the service pack1 which showed 73.6mb - 892.6mb so i updated it again and again the same thing happened.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?
1.I had created a locker on my desktop using "Folder Lock" software.
2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software.
3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help
7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.
8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.
My hp dv3t has been giving a message about checking a disk for consistency every time I reboot(ed) for about a week now, but today it froze after the countdown reaches zero (for bypassing the procedure)�nothing I do can get it past this step. What do I do? I tried booting from Safe Mode, it listed a bunch of drivers but then froze.I'm using W7 64-bit Home Premium.

Clicking on the Administrator gives me a desktop with an on-screen keyboard; the computer keyboard disabled, and a panel saying,"FAILED, The application has failed to start." Going back and clicking on the Standard User icon gets me running for the most part. Here's the BIG problem. Every time I try to install any program, the User Account Control box drops down and asks for the Administrator Password, plus the question,"Do you want to allow the following programs to make changes to your computer?" You click "Yes", but, since no one is in the Administrator office, your installation comes to a halt. This blocks "Install" and "Uninstall". I get lots of messages I need Adobe Flash Player. I've trie over and again to install it, going to Windows 32 bit, but can't uninstall my previous tries. It will always download, and that's all. I've tried to install my digital camera's CD, but can't.

Then I tried booting to Safe mode, and I saw that during the loading process there was no file shown as succesfully loaded. I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?
I hate it when this happens and so far, the startup repair has always been able to fix the problem. Today, I'm not so lucky.
I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 64-bit. I am supposed to have AVG Internet Security 2011 installed on my computer. When I boot up, the User Account Control asks if I want to allow AVG to run. It says it's installed on my hdd. I say yes. When I go into the hdd, I cannot find AVG anywhere except in the folder Program Files(x86). And the actual executable is not in there, just a few odd files. I have a feeling that the installation might have been interrupted, but every time I try to continue or reinstall it nothing happens after the file extraction hits 100%. It is not in the control panel applications, and when I search for it, nothings shows in the results. I don't know what other information might be pertinent. I am tired, and I have been working at this for a while now.

It has Kodak printer installed also bought new and properly installed. This desktop has never been dropped, spilled on, nothing has been added to it other than what I have told you.No power surges NOTHING. However when turned on it acts like it will start my Windows 7 but then stops and restarts. It only quits when I manualy press the power button . I cannot get to the startup repair either. recently my computer has been acting a bit odd. When I turn it on it starts up like normal, I input my password and it starts loading everything. But once everything is loaded at the start up the taskbar freezes and so does the rest of the desktop. I can move my mouse but it does nothing and I'm not able to open the taskmanager at all with ctrl+alt+del. The computer runs fine in safe mode. I've already gone through and cleaned up my system, fixed any registry problems, and defragged my hdd. I've scanned for any malware and came up with nothing. I've disabled all non-necessary programs in msconfig for startup. I've been able to do a system restore to about a week ago, and that would fix the problem for a bit, but it would happen again if the computer went into sleep mode.

I have an XPS 17z L702x with windows7 and I want the synaptics touchpad disabled on startup. I have no idea what to do, there may be a registry value that can be changed to do this in the same way that adding two to the value at HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators turns NUM lock on at startup or there may be something completely different. I know that the touchpad can be disabled at startup because my computer had it disabled on startup before I had to reinstall windows and all of my drivers and programs. Everything else on my system is exactly the way it was before but I just can't keep the touchpad off.

I've started having a problem on my Dell desktop PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. Sometimes, when I attempt to start the PC, the process will not finish and it just hangs. It seems to happen at the same point in the process. After the welcome screen, the wallpaper and shortcut icons load. If they load all at the same time and the tray items show, the start up will be successful.However, sometimes the process stops right after the wallpaper loads. Sometimes some of the icons will appear with others as only white icons. Sometimes, none of the icons will appear. If I let it set for awhile, nothing happens - the blue circle continues to spin, but nothing else happens. When I attempt to shut down or click any of the other icons in the quick start tray, the blue circle just shows on top of them. No matter what I try at this point, nothing works. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to shut down. Then, when I try to startup again, I get the error message that Windows was not properly shut down and I either "start windows normally" or go into "safe mode". I haven't installed any hardware since this started, and I've tried to isolate if a certain program has caused this. Sometimes I will uninstall the last program installed while I am in safe mode, but I find that this was not the problem program. When I shut down from safe mode, Windows closes properly and then I can try and startup normally again. This is sometimes successful, sometimes not.I've tried doing a full scan with Norton Internet Security and Malwarebytes while in safe mode, but they both show no issues. I also tried a startup repair in Windows, but that also showed no issues.
