System Restore Vs Full Registry Backup?
Apr 25, 2011While System Restore usually does what it is supposed to do, sometimes it doesn't. When I am intending to do something a bit drastic or unusual on my desktop now, I routinely make a full registry backup. (Start/Run/type REGEDIT/OK/File/Export. Name and save the file in Documents) On my machine this takes 20 - 30 secs and results in a file around 200 MB. I have never had to use one of these backups to restore this machine so far

Apr 23, 2012I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit with SP1 (OEM). I have already installed the Windows and activated online. Also i have installed all my motherboards drivers such as audio, lan, raid and gpu.The whole process took me around 1 hour 30 mins.Next month i'm planning to format my hdd and clean my pc (cleaning the dust from the fans, cpu).I do that every month.In the future i don't want to install Windows all over again (by installing it from a disc) it takes too long for my liking. Also with my OEM version of Windows i think you're only allowed 3 times activation by going online, then after that you have to call up Microsoft which is a hassle.What i want:
* I want to create a full system image of my whole hdd/windows/pc
* After a month or so i insert a disc or from another hdd and copy the entire image to a new hdd or a formatted hdd and have all my previous windows all installed with activated and with all drivers.
How Create Incremental Full System Backup ?
Nov 3, 2009It is difficult for me to distinguish what parts of the Back up and restore screen apply just to creating a full backup and and which apply just to creating a file backup.
I know I can create a system Image by clicking in the upper left hand area of the screen (the create a system image link). But it is not clear to me how to create an incremental backup of a system image. Do I just select "Create a system Image" again, and Win 7 is smart enough to do an incremental system image backup automatically, or do I need to create some sort of schedule?
It is difficult to tell if schedules apply only to file backups or if they apply to creating a full system backup too.
Windows 7 Backup Disc Full?
Jan 16, 2013I have an HP Presario CQ57 laptop with windows 7 Premium. I keep getting the message that my backup disc is full,,like the others: Data file backups for this computer on HP_TOOLS (E:) and the D: are both full, when I try to delete either one I get told "you will not be able to restore files from this computer from backup" how can I solve this problem,,I did do a DELETE and run backup now but it lasts less than a week. I use my laptop for info and games,,not business.

Sep 20, 2012My problem is if I restart with HDD on,it freezes when windows logo pops up during startup. I have a bunch of saved stuff on the external besides the backup img.Its a 500gb.It still froze when I only had 10gb saved on it. Will it delete everything I have saved on my external if I boot the img? I have a extra 20gb laying around,it is large enough to hold my saved backup.

I tried to uncheck the (shut off and delte all files from system restore) but that does not help. Jul 28, 2012I'm trying to backup the pictures, music, and videos that are saved on my buddies laptop. He forgot the password for the main account and whenever I try to transfer files to an external hard drive, a screen pops up and tells me to it cannot transfer files without password. Is there anyway to get around this? EDIT: I thought maybe it would be important to add that the account that I'm using to get access to the files must not have permissions to change anything on the computer. Don't ask me how my friend figured out how to restrict himself from changing anything on the computer, but he did and this general lack of knowledge about computers, likely got in into the trouble, that now is going to require me to do a full restore.

I have used a Verto 9600GSO in a custom ASUS build without too many issues, but the other day I lost one of my two sticks of system RAM and now the video card isn't seen in the device manager. I can get video from the onboard video port, but nothing from the video card. The worst part is that I know the 9600GSO is in good working order as it worked flawlessly on another system, and another card worked as expected in this system. Why does it seem that my aftermarket 9600GSO doesn't want to work without both sticks of RAM?

Sep 12, 2010Why does it take so long for MSE to complete a full scan of my system? Even the other spyware/malware apps doing a full scan takes at best up to an hour. With MSE running a full scan can take upwards of 5 plus hours and sometimes even longer.......this scan that is now running started at 10:43am and time elapsed since start is 07:58:05 and counting and is only half way through. Feb 10, 2012my issue is with windows 7 giving me an error message on boot up. I started having a google redirect issue on my dell laptop the other day. I though I had taken care of it with malwarebites, but suddenly while I am surfing the net the screen goes completley black and I am faced with a blue screen of death. Can't start anything. Safe mode, system repair, and system restore either freeze or get the same blue screen of death.I finally end up using the Dell system local backup that is a preloaded recovery tool on their computers, and the two burned recovery discs I made with it when I first got the pc. Using this I restore the PC to its factory setting wiping out my old files and partitions. It works! and I go through setting up windows like the first time. It loads up and is working fine. I load on some anti spyware programs scan my computer, set up the internet, and start updating windows.Once I dowload my updates and restart my computer the computer will not boot windows. I get a error that goes something like this Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your langugae settings, and then click next
3. Click "repair your computer."
Status: 0xc000000e Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.I cant get safe mode to work. Basically my only option is to stick my recovery disk back in and repeat a factory fresh recovery and that gets my computer back working, but every time I turn it off I get the boot error. It is frustrating because I can get it to work fine otherwise. Right now I am just putting my laptop to sleep mode but I would like to be able to turn it it off without recovering windows each time!If you have any ideas that could help me that would be great. I am thinking there is some sort of lingering software/hardware incompatibility or the virus/malware altered something to make the boot up process change. I feel like there is something I could probably do or run in windows to fix this. For awhile I was thinking my hard drive was messed up, but if that was the case I would assume I would not be able to recover windows and load anti virus software on it and have everything be normal, only to not have windows restart.

Sep 13, 2011i have Windows 7 (64) preinstalled on an Acer Aspire notebook. I've been looking high and low for a way to backup just my system state, the way I used to be able do in Windows XP. There was even a guided tutorial to help you do it on the MS web site. The resultant file was much smaller than a partition backup and was often more useful for disaster recovery than the simple restore point recovery. It only took a few minutes to create. It seems NTBackup is gone. Is there any way to do what ntbackup used to do?

Oct 30, 2009Did a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit and all my apps, deleted Windows.old, defrag'ed and activated. Then created a SYSTEM IMAGE using Win 7 BACKUP and RESTORE, so far so good.
Win 7 and my apps take up 43.9 GB on the hard drive but the SYSTEM IMAGE it created on my external drive is only 23.7 GB. Tried it on my laptop with similar results ISO was about half the HDD. Does that sound right? Just seems the ISO should have matched the HDD GB-wise unless it compresses or something.

If I create a full system backup of my "C" drive, then do a restore, will it just install the "C" drive partition only, or will it overwrite the entire HD, thus wipping the rest of the partitions? Not looking to have the other partitions wiped!
I did some looking around, but that question/issue doesn't seem to be addressed.

Backup Entire System ( 4TB+ ) The Fast Way?
Oct 2, 2011I'd like to backup my entire System or at least most of it onto a seperate Computer/NAS but as the size of what has to be transferred has gotten quite big in the meantime ( 4TB+ ) so I'm running into a problem concerning the time it takes to do this.Let me get some facts about me:Right now I consider myself a Noob when it comes to networking 2 PC's together mainly because I'm not working with it that much. Other than that I can solve pretty much any other computer problem in the blink of an eye. What I'm looking for:
- A system that serves as a backup for my entire current system which has about 4TB of storage housing - MANDATORY!
- A system that does the Copy/Move Process of the respective files fast - MANDATORY! Waiting 11.65h to transfer 1 TB of files at~25 MB/Sec over a GBit Network is an absolute no go. If possible I'm looking for something that rivals the 150-200 MB/Sec from my internal RAID-0.
- A system that serves as a MediaServer for my Home Cinema System either directly connected to the TV or a PS3 - OPTIONAL What I've tried so far: I recently bought myself a QNAP TS-412 which transfers the files at speeds of ~25 MB/Sec not giving me a happy face. Blame me for trusting the clerk at the shop where I bought it before reading through the specs. What I could do: Build a second PC from former HighEnd bits and pieces acting as a homemade NAS. Question is will this give me the results that I demand or will it lack the same way as the NAS?
System Image Backup Cannot Be Found?
Oct 15, 2011I have a system image that was saved to a maxtor one touch ext HD via USB. This was created using Windows 7 image making system. I am trying to copy the image to my new HDD (internal) 1TB. The problem is when I go to recovery>advanced options>restore from image and reboot, the PC cannot find the image. I can click advanced options and search for a driver and actually see the drive and the image folder/zips but Windows 7 cannot detect it. I have also copied this image to a internall HDD because I thought it may be the USB. I have not changed any BIOS settings as I am using Windows 7 on the 1TB HDD and trying to restore to that from either the Dnetouch or the F:internal HDD. Neither times will it find the image.uestions. Do I need to use an alternate program like paragon or clonezilla2. When the image is saved, it is the name of my pc. Example: Fesktop64-PC. Does it need to be in a folder or the image be a specific name? Ive seen WindowsImageBackup as a possiblity.

Oct 27, 2011I successfully backed up my computer to an external harddrive using Windows 7 backup. I used Windows recommended settings.
My computer's local disk is currently 216 GB. When I backed up my computer to the harddrive it says that the backup is 384 GB. Can somebody explain to me why my backup is larger than my system's harddrive?
Also, just so you know, I don't have any previous backups that need to be deleted. And just to be sure I ran the backup numerous times always getting the same size as a result (384 GB).
I would like to have a complete backup but don't want to use up so much space. Is there an easy way to change a setting so that I can save disk space on my external drive while have a thorough and comprehensive backup.
