View 0 Replies View RelatedIve had this problem once before. I turned my PC on Yesterday, and my WD 500GB Hard drive (Number 3) was not recognised. Then I did a reboot, and the drive showed up again, HOWEVER, The drive has the Read Only flag in DiskPart and using the attrib disk clear readonly commands with the correct disk selected does not work. DiskPart just moans that It cant clear the attribute.
I doubt its a Driver Issue or a Hardware issue as It was working fine. All the tests in Ubuntu 10.04 (my second os) come up good and I can write to it, So Windows 7 has done something, Not sure what.
bought a new computer, shifted the external hard drive over, and it is locked - the take ownership trick doesn't work - who designed this POS system?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI was waking up one morning to get a quiz done before my Computer Science class. I like to think I'm pretty proficient. But when my computer was going really slow, and eventually locked up, I was forced to do a hard shutdown. Unfortunately, when I went to load it up, it loaded the BIOS, and then it goes to load Windows and poof. Starting windows pops up, but the windows icon never pops up. After about 5-10 minutes, my computer will restart.
Alright, so the first general action is to boot into Safe Mode, but this doesn't work either. I try to boot it up and the greyish screen with "Loading Windows Files." at the top and "Please Wait..." at the bottom. It stops there. Nothing loads up, it just stops. So, I hard reset it again, and THIS time, it says " Startup Repair. " So, I think to myself, this should fix the problem. I load up the startup repair. Loading Windows Files works, then it looks like its loading up and then BAM!
Black screen with a white cursor. SO! I have read up on this error quite a bit, but unfortunately, most of them happen before log in. They say to Ctr+Alt+Del into task manager. I don't have that option because the ctrl alt del doesn't work. So, I break down and try and load up the recovery console from my USB drive that I have on boot. All that does is mimic trying to do startup repair.

i installed windows 7 recently then after some while i did that "system rating" thing. right clicking on "computer" - "properties" - then there's "manufacturer" "model" then "rating" in the "system" section. while doing that power went off, because i didn't have the battery on and the charger got unplugged. i restarted the laptop and a message came up telling me that "operating system not found". so i decided to re-install windows 7. then after a while a message came up telling me that there is no hard disk installed. and press f3 to restart

Windows 7 64bit has popped up saying it has detected a HDD problem, I need to back up my files immediately. I installed a new 2TB HDD (Samsung HD204UI) a couple of months ago, surely it shouldn't be failing already? This is my secondery disk. Is this by any chance a malware or virsus playing tricks on me?

View 1 Replies View Relatedif I asume that a machine can boot from a USB harddisk, is there a way to install windows 7 from a USB harddisk without having to format my USB Hardisk? I read a tutorial for installing windows 7 from a USB Key, and I assume it works with a USB Hardisk too, but since the drive size is 250GB it would be crazy to format all of that to create the ISO image.
would it be possible to create let's say a small 4 GB partition and make it active/primary and write the ISO to that partition, and boot from it?
