How can I recognize in ubuntu, locked disk (by bitlocker win7 x64). I lost bitlocker code, morover I lost my windows too. Recently I could'nt install win 7, it asks me bitlocker code. I wanted to copy all my data using ubuntu (it is in bootable USB flash), but ubuntu doesn't show this disk.
I've had windows 7 64bit installed on my PC and I converted one drive to bitlocker drive, it was working fine
and today after windows went crashing I've freshly installed windows7 64 bit enterprise but I cannot find my bitlocker drive it appears on the disk management as unallocated!
I have previously installed windows 7then for trial purpose installed ubuntu on pimary drve C:However it doesnot installed properly and now again i have installed windows7 ...it is perfect but others partition drives are not accesible.
Basically what happened was I deleted the factory partitions on this laptop( HP Pavilion G6) using disk management down to two partitions and attempted to install Ubuntu on the other partition. After a horrendously failed attempt to install Ubuntu, disk management will not recognize my hard drive even though I can see it and access it through windows. I just want to re-partition it so I can set up a recovery partition. It wouldn't boot up after the failed install, saying I had no operating system, but I used a Windows 7 repair disc and now it boots up fine, but disk management doesn't show my hd or any partitions.
Recently I installed ubuntu 11.04. Now I have deleted the ubuntu partition using windows disk management. Now I can't boot the windows os! Even I tried the FIXMBR commands! Now it is showing 'BOOTMGR not found".
I have switched CPUs in order to upgrade my system, but I have copied over all the important files from my old computer. The current CPU was used by my dad before me and worked perfectly. It runs on Windows 7. However, since unplugging the tower and moving it back to my room, it no longer recognizes any of my CD/DVD drives. They are both functioning, turning on and opening and closing, but they are not listed under COMPUTER. I have tried several fixes on this site including merging my registry with a file on Notepad and running a program called cdgone but it still doesn't work. When my computer boots up I go to a screen with F2 that allows me to view my system. The drivers are listed as off but when I switch them over the computer will not let me. [code]
I setup my pc with 2 harddisk. I dual boot xp 32-bit and windows 7 64-bit on 1 harddisk and other harddisk is for my data storage for xp and 7. The problem is that windows 7 recognize the 2 harddisk and I can access the data but xp won't. Xp can see the harddisk on 'my computer' but it was listed RAW.
Anyone know how to fix it so that xp and 7 can access the 2nd harddisk?
System configured as RAID 1 (mirror) and works well until this day. From today DVD/RW Drive Shows Up As Hard Drive! Under conmputer mannagment all drives shows correctly. I tried everything - unninstall, tried diferent DVD/RW drive, tried assign a new letter etc
After I tried to make a dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Windows now does not boot. I have tried to reinstall and repair the HDD but the disc fails to recognize my HDD (Western Digital Scorpio Black 500 GB). My HDD is Basic, has 3 primary partitions and 1 extended (3 logical). Ubuntu 11.10 can boot fine.
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Mini 110-1116NR, then deleted the partitions that had Ubuntu on them, not knowing that Ubuntu comes with GRUB2, and sets itself as the default boot for that system. Now that GRUB2 is not installed, since it was on my only HDD, it looks for the GRUB2 partition, which does not exist.
I bought Windows XP Ultimate and setup my computer with Bitlocker, using a USB key for the encryption key. After setting everything up and confirming it all works, I thought I would make a copy of this USB key. When I look at the USB stick using Windows Explorer or via a Dir command through a DOS prompt, I don't see any files on the USB stick. Is this normal? Is there no way to make a copy of the stick, I would have thought I would have seen files on it.
I'm having trouble getting my clients to backup the bitlocker info to AD. I've followed the Configuration Guide (we're running Win2k3R2 domain controllers) as well as the Testing steps detailed in the guide. I'm successfully able to backup TPM information, but the FVE information isn't even attempted to be backed up to AD. I've checked the GPO, and checked the registry on the client as well, and HKLMSOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftFVEActiveDirectoryBackup and RequireActiveDirectoryBackup are both set to 1.
It looks like those two GPO objects are being set, but not enforced. I think that because I don't have any 513 or 514 errors in the System Event Log (for FVE anyway - I see the 514 for the TPM backup), and I did a packet capture and don't see a conversation happening between the client and any of my DC's. Also, Bitlocker successfully encrypts the volume, which I thought it shouldn't do until it successfully backed up the recovery information to AD, and it's not there (I used a regular LDAP browser as well as the add-on for AD Users & Computers and the FVE entries are nowhere to be found).
I was able to replicate this on two Windows 7 Enterprise x64 clients. I'm at a loss at this point at even where else to look for hints of what's going on.
I have encrypted a driver with bitlocker in windows 7. I need to be able to lock the drive after I have opened it. The only way i can see to do this is to restart the computer.
Does anyone know a different way of doing this. For example a right click and lock button?
I upgraded my Vista to Windows 7. Turned off Bitlocker before upgrading. When I finally had Windows 7 on my computer I tried to turn on bitlocker again. It was not possible, so I decrypted the drive. Then I tried to encrypt the drive again but on reboot I got the attached message. Windows boots normally to the desktop but the drive is not encrypted. Anyone there who knows what to do to get bitlocker working again?
I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit,not using bitlocker, want to upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate and use Bitlocker. Can this be done without a clean install of Win 7, will I be able to keep my applications, settings and data, etc?
I have been having some issues when trying to turn Bitlocker on in C:
I have followed the instructions as per this forum to enable a Startup key in gpedit.msc as I don't have TPM which worked.
After following the instructions, Windows Bitlocker asked me to insert a USB to save the startup key to. This appeared to save and then moved onto the next step where I took down the recovery key etc. and finally restarted to make sure my system was compatible before encryption started.
Upon restart, Windows said that it couldnt find a key on the USB drive. After further investigation I found that windows did not save the key to the USB after all even checked as a hidden file. It will save the text file (recovery key) to usb but not the bek file for the startup key.
I have tried this several times but each time it wont save although the system doesn't say there has been a problem and moves on to the next stage.
The USB is a 2gb cruzer with the smart drive software removed and re-formatted to NTFS. I have also tried this on other USB drives with no luck and the USB drives work as Iam able to write other things to it?
I wonder if anyone here have some experience in this area.
I have a Gigabyte P55A-UD4P Mb which has a TPM chip.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and try to enable bit-locker. It seems to me I am always unable to lock the drive with TPM.
I have follow the standard steps, clear TPM chip in bios, then go to control panel and enable bit-locker, The process takes ownership of TPM, create and back up TPM password. Then generate bit-locker key and store it on USB key. Finally it pre test if the drive sill unlock before encryption starts. It is at this point after the reboot that the bit-locker error come up and said bit-lock cannot be enable because the device has change or pin not inputed.
I have win7 ultimate running on an amd system and I have tried to enable bit locker but it says it requires TPM but my machine doesn't have TPM. Is there a way to get around this problem. Ok I might of not been specific I am wondering if there is a way to get it to work if TPM is not present.
I encrypted my folders with bitlocker and they turned green then i changed my windowes so i dont have access to my last user but i do have Recovery key identification,Full recovery key identification and BitLocker Recovery Key how can i use these to recover my files?what i did to encrypt my files was right click then properties then advanced then encrypt content to secure data at the end.
i have a usb in which i have saved my important data nd i had locked that device by bitlocker but nw its not opening because i hgave installed new windows in my laptop so when ever i attach my usb i get this msg
