View 0 Replies View RelatedI bought Windows XP Ultimate and setup my computer with Bitlocker, using a USB key for the encryption key. After setting everything up and confirming it all works, I thought I would make a copy of this USB key. When I look at the USB stick using Windows Explorer or via a Dir command through a DOS prompt, I don't see any files on the USB stick. Is this normal? Is there no way to make a copy of the stick, I would have thought I would have seen files on it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble getting my clients to backup the bitlocker info to AD. I've followed the Configuration Guide (we're running Win2k3R2 domain controllers) as well as the Testing steps detailed in the guide. I'm successfully able to backup TPM information, but the FVE information isn't even attempted to be backed up to AD. I've checked the GPO, and checked the registry on the client as well, and HKLMSOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftFVEActiveDirectoryBackup and RequireActiveDirectoryBackup are both set to 1.
It looks like those two GPO objects are being set, but not enforced. I think that because I don't have any 513 or 514 errors in the System Event Log (for FVE anyway - I see the 514 for the TPM backup), and I did a packet capture and don't see a conversation happening between the client and any of my DC's. Also, Bitlocker successfully encrypts the volume, which I thought it shouldn't do until it successfully backed up the recovery information to AD, and it's not there (I used a regular LDAP browser as well as the add-on for AD Users & Computers and the FVE entries are nowhere to be found).
I was able to replicate this on two Windows 7 Enterprise x64 clients. I'm at a loss at this point at even where else to look for hints of what's going on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have encrypted a driver with bitlocker in windows 7. I need to be able to lock the drive after I have opened it. The only way i can see to do this is to restart the computer.
Does anyone know a different way of doing this. For example a right click and lock button?
I upgraded my Vista to Windows 7. Turned off Bitlocker before upgrading. When I finally had Windows 7 on my computer I tried to turn on bitlocker again. It was not possible, so I decrypted the drive. Then I tried to encrypt the drive again but on reboot I got the attached message. Windows boots normally to the desktop but the drive is not encrypted. Anyone there who knows what to do to get bitlocker working again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having some issues when trying to turn Bitlocker on in C:
I have followed the instructions as per this forum to enable a Startup key in gpedit.msc as I don't have TPM which worked.
After following the instructions, Windows Bitlocker asked me to insert a USB to save the startup key to. This appeared to save and then moved onto the next step where I took down the recovery key etc. and finally restarted to make sure my system was compatible before encryption started.
Upon restart, Windows said that it couldnt find a key on the USB drive. After further investigation I found that windows did not save the key to the USB after all even checked as a hidden file. It will save the text file (recovery key) to usb but not the bek file for the startup key.
I have tried this several times but each time it wont save although the system doesn't say there has been a problem and moves on to the next stage.
The USB is a 2gb cruzer with the smart drive software removed and re-formatted to NTFS. I have also tried this on other USB drives with no luck and the USB drives work as Iam able to write other things to it?
I wonder if anyone here have some experience in this area.
I have a Gigabyte P55A-UD4P Mb which has a TPM chip.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and try to enable bit-locker. It seems to me I am always unable to lock the drive with TPM.
I have follow the standard steps, clear TPM chip in bios, then go to control panel and enable bit-locker, The process takes ownership of TPM, create and back up TPM password. Then generate bit-locker key and store it on USB key. Finally it pre test if the drive sill unlock before encryption starts. It is at this point after the reboot that the bit-locker error come up and said bit-lock cannot be enable because the device has change or pin not inputed.
Did I do anything wrong?
I have win7 ultimate running on an amd system and I have tried to enable bit locker but it says it requires TPM but my machine doesn't have TPM. Is there a way to get around this problem. Ok I might of not been specific I am wondering if there is a way to get it to work if TPM is not present.

View 2 Replies View RelatedNew drive 1gb external, running bitlocker for the first time. Left it overnight cos it was taking forever, (which is the norm)
Woke up this morning and it was stuck on something like 47.1% requesting the bitlocker password, put that in and it starts encrypting again.... But every few random mins it falls over with an error message:
An Error Occurred The System cannot find the file specified. And prompts me to put my bitlocker password back in, for which I do, and the encrpytion starts again.
Its like at 50% now, after it falling over 3 times in the last 30mins.. I'm not exactly what to do.. I cant sit here for the next 10hrs waiting for it to fall over every few mins asking for the password.
I'd be up for scrapping the whole encrpytion and starting all over again.. But not exactly sure on how to permantely un-crypt the drive and reformat it ? Perhaps running a scandisk before doing so... It was a brand new drive.
I can actually still access the data, because autoplay opens after every error allowing me to see and open the files.
Can't boot into Windows 7 Ultimate with bitlocker anymore....I know the boot sector is messed up more than likely...I have done all the tricks with bootsec.exe and the commands ..I even tried startup repair it repairs but still doesn't boot ....The bitlocker key is on a usb hard drive and is connected but still the error.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI encrypted my 4GB brand new Flash Drive with Bitlocker to Go in Windows 7 Enterprise (RC), ejected it, restarted my Windows 7 PC, and everything still worked. I tried opening it in XP and it was read-only and required my password to even look at it. That was expected. What I didn't expect, after ejecting it from the XP machine, was that it would be:
INACCESSIBLE, UNREADABLE, and IMPOSSIBLE to FORMAT after that!
No matter what PC I put it in now, I get a message saying that I must format the drive and nothing else. The drive is worthless. I when I right click in Windows 7, there is no BitLocker option. Before I throw it away, does someone know how to FIX THIS?
I like to get my OS to be genuine. But, I only qualify for a Home Upgrade.
Anyone know of a way to still use this feature?
Without having Ultimate?
While using BitLocker Drive Encryption feature, i selected the settings for using the USB to store the security key. But, once I restarted my PC, BitLocker didn't recognized the USB and went into recovery mode.
Can anyone suggest as to why the USB key was not taken into consideration?
The help page for BitLocker mentions
"A removable USB memory device, such as a USB flash drive. If your computer doesnt have TPM version 1.2 or higher, BitLocker will store its key on the flash drive. This option is only available if your system administrator has set up your network to allow the use of a startup key instead of the TPM."
I don't know how to set this up - anyone have in-depth guide for this?
I was encrypting my external HDD Tevion 1.5Tb when I accidentally turned off the computer. Will my disc be broken, can I resume the encryption or must I decode it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy setup: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on ThinkPad T510. 1HD, two partitions (C and D).I just reinstalled my system and encrypted C; however, there is absolutely no option to encrypt D. I've tried accessing the drive from admin account and still nothing. When I open BitLocker management, it only lists partition C and not D.Here is some additional information that might or might not matter: I tried to restore my Windows 7 from an Acronis image and it was unsuccessful. Tried it twice and during booting POST showed two different W7s installed, which was incorrect. When I finally installed Windows 7 from scratch, the extra W7s were still appearing before startup and I had to use EasyBCD to remove them. Now when I am trying to backup partition C, Acronis says that my System Reserved Partition (SRP) is on partition D. My hunch is that Acronis messed up my drive D when I was trying to restore my C partition. Then when I did a fresh Windows 7 install, the SRP incorrectly ended up in D and since SRP cannot be encrypted, that means that my entire drive D can't be encrypted either.
Can that really be the case? If so, what is the quickest solution? I am dreading about going through formatting my 750GB HD and installing Windows 7 and encrypting it yet again. I read somewhere that you can use software like Acronis Disk Manager to move the SRP to drive C, but I am not sure how this will work because when I open the native winodws Disk Management, I don't see SRP there. So I'm stuck and don't want to format my HD if what I think is the problem is in fact not the problem.
I am using Windows 7 RC and I try to encrypt 500 GB external drive. There was a power failure when the process was 30% completed. When I try to access to the drive it says.BitLocker drive encryption failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion. This could be due to either all conversion logs being corrupted or the media being write-protected.The password is right because when I type a different password I see message. The password you typed is not correct.
