HP Dv2635 Laptop Driver Upgrade
Aug 30, 2009
I received my laptop (HP dv2635) back today at factory settings on 32-bit Vista Professional after having to send it away to get the mainboard replaced. I installed Win 7 and all seems to be going well, though there are a few things like drivers for webcam, touchpad, fingerprint reader etc that are not up to date because these devices are not responding in the same way they used to.
HP website has not yet listed driver updates for Windows 7, but I recall reading somewhere on several of the forums I have looked at that most Vista drivers for devices such as these should work. Is this true?
I can definitely survive with things as they are until HP extends driver support over the coming weeks, but a temporary fix would definitely eb awesome, especially for the touchpad.

I have a HP dv5 Series laptop. I wish to upgrade from Vista Basic 32 to Windows 7 32.
However, the upgrade lists out certain issues like SCSI/RAID Host controller and keyboard filter(among others),as potential issues.
What should I do to resolve these issues, and where do I go to find resources needed for the solution?
Also,is it necessary to uninstall services like Catalyst manager, and UT3 and reinstall them,or can I just leave 'em there, install Windows 7 and then update these programs?

I recently upgraded my dell desktop from 2005 to windows 7. It works great. I want to do the same with my laptop, but I am worried the laptop is not good enough for windows 7. According to this site: PassMark - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs the laptop's processor is actually better than the desktop's but I'm still not sure. Here are the specs of my laptop

I am trying to install on an HP DV6-1063TX laptop computer.
I have runs upgrade adviser it reports 1 issue although I am not sure what it is,
In the System report I get two notices one about MS Mail & Web filtering and one suggesting a visit to HP website, everything else is green ticked so I don't think there are any serious problems here.
In the Devices section there is a ? againnst the HP DVB-T/Analog TV-Tuner but again all else is green ticked.
In the Software section I get a 'Yellow Triangle !' against Adobe Shockwave Player version 10.2.0.023, everything else has green ticks. The problem is that as far as I can see there should not be Adobe Shockwave version 10 as I have uninstalled not only this program but all the other Adobe software as well. I have tried updating to version 11.5, I have used Adobe's standalone uninstall tool for Shockwave but Windows 7 UGA insists it is still on the computer. I have run CCLeaner but all to no avail. Is this the problem?
On the first attempt I had a problem with HPs Keyboard Filter which I understand is related to the HP Quick Launch Button software, I have uninstalled the software and have upgraded to the latest version.
I have tried the installation 3 or 4 times now with the HP software upgraded or fully installed. Each time the installation goes through all the on-line checks, system checks, file expansion etc... only to find that it fails during the final stage. During the last attempt I had the upgraded Keyboard Filters installed and this again caused a problem so I am going to uninstall the upgraded software and try another install although I hold little hope for success.
The fact that the Windows 7 UGA reports a phantom Adobe Installation leads me to think the problem may be there but I have no idea how to solve this as it is not on the machine.
I would prefer to do the upgrade installation if possible as it will save many hours of software installation (after hours of time already wasted on Windows 7 installation), and I am worried that being a laptop Windows 7 may fail with some of the drivers it does not help that I cannot find this laptop on HPs website even though it was bought just over 12 months ago.
I really want to get rid of this Vista installation and hope that someone here can be of assistance, in the meantime I will be trying one more attempt to upgrade after uninstalling the HP Quick Launch Bitton software.

I recently bought a samsung NP-300V5A laptop for compsci at school, and picked it due to the fact that out of all the laptops at microcenter, this one was at a reasonable price with an i7 2670qm, however, coming from building 3 of my own very high end desktops (3930k w/ gtx 690 & ssd's) the 5400 rpm drive just was unbearable, so I went out and picked up a crucial M4, and replaced it. I also bought a copy of windows 7 home premium OEM and tried booting from that dvd, and it would not work, I just got a backlight loop, so I inserted the Samsung recovery install disc, and used it to install windows, worked just the same as any other win7 install, however, my internet is not working now, and my laptop's monitor/display is recognized as a generic nonPnP and won't go to its max resolution.

I'm getting since upgrading my laptop from Vista to 7. Laptop has allways been faultless before the OS upgrade (clean install). After the upgrade yes it runs quicker but it overheats and shuts down. -The laptop is getting hotter than usual and depending on CPU demand will just shut down, the only warning being the fan speed increasing just before it dies. I have tried the following;
1. Cleaned out the fan and air dusted all under the cover. -even tried freezer spray to the bottom cover!
2. restored all the drivers I had backed up before the instal.
3. checked the latency on the system (the computer is mainly used for Music) APCI.sys sits high on the demand list and its latency increases as CPU heats. -Not sure if this is the problem, can find no reliable info as to if I can stop it running (not listed in the services
4. removed battery and ran the laptop. -still shuts down and runs red hot!
5. checked the Acer website for driver. It only has drivers listed for Vista and XP (not tried these as yet).
Was thinking of updating all drivers to latest using a driver update program, had allready done the CPU update but to be honest I have had problems before with the updated drivers causing more problems than they solve on other PC's.
Seems to be a lot about Win 7 causing overheat problems

So my brother got a new vista laptop recently and it came with a paper saying he can upgrade to Windows 7 for free.
So i go on HP's site (he got a pavilion), and i come across the page where i place my order. But then i find this:
It says it costs 30 euros! I thought it was meant to be free!? 30 euros isn't much anyway but thats not the problem, my problem is also that i cant pay online because i don't have paypal or a credit card!
Isnt it meant to be free? Or is that the shipping cost?

I purchased a SSD for my laptop and installed it. Therefore the SSD is blank with no OS on it. So I need to install 7 but it's an upgrade.
1.) Partition my 120GB SSD as partition#1 40GB, partition#2 40GB, leave rest unpartitioned
2.) Install XP on partition #2
3.) Install 7 upgrade on partition#1 which will see XP on partition #2
4.) Once install is over delete partition#2 and recreate partition#2 as 80GB

I plan to replace Win 7 HP 64bit with Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on an Asus N53S, a replacement for a laptop that is now trashed and on which the win 7 OEM 64bit version had been installed to replace Win Vista. Is it possible to overcome Win 7 OEM being keyed to one computer MS protocol and if so, how is it done?

I own a GateWay laptop NV51B15u series. I was simply wondering if I would be able to upgrade the processor to something more powerful. Currently it is 1.6 GHz, and I play a lot of PC games, so wanted something a bit faster, at least 2.4 GHz. I know this is not a gaming computer, though it has surprised me, and I love him. Even runs Dead Island full graphics, which surprised me. Anyways, my current processor is a 1.6GHz dual-core AMD E-Series.

Just built my new computer but realized that I can't use the same Windows 7 disc/cd-key that's on my old computer because it's only one per computer when I thought it was 3.Looking at the prices on the Windows 7, it costs $119 for upgrade and $200 for full retail. From what I have read, when installing using the upgrade disc, it would detect my previous Windows version and if it's older than XP, or if there's no Windows installed, it would not activate Windows as it isn't a proper license and I would need the full retail one.

all the literature for the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q898 (and, I assume, the others in this series) was to max out at 8gb RAM. Well, I am here to tell you that is not true. FYI, I have Win 7 Home Premium as the OS. I initially installed 2 x 8gb Kingston sticks and the Q898 recognized but 8gb of the RAM. I had 2 x 8gb sticks of Komputer Bay RAM in another laptop (HP dv6-6112nr) so I swapped them out. I had read a few threads here and there that Toshiba PC's were "picky" about some brands of RAM. Most of the upgrades were accomplished using Komputer Bay RAM. The HP laptop could care less what brand it had installed. Bottom line is I have 16gb of RAM in both PC's and am a happy camper. Given the price drops of RAM it is an inexpensive way to give some new life to a 2010/2011 laptop.

An upgrade installed and now the system hangs (could be something else, I don't know, but upgrade installed right before hang)Vaio logo comes up, then repair or start Windows regularly - If start regularly, goes to blank screenIf repair, then the sytem goes to Startup Repair and Searches for problems for hours.Repair, and login as owner, go to system restore, choose a restore point, and click next, system hangs. Don't have a system image or a good backup (My backups always hung. Will make sure I have one from now on)Had memory checked. Did not change, blank screensafe mode hangs on black screen, low res video hangsUsing Windows 7 installation disc (borrowed from a friend), the repair option hangs on "Searching for Windows Installations..." and on the other window, I can see it found my windows installation but I can't get to it, because the "Searching for Windows Installtions..." never stops.

Ok, I'm wanting to go from Vista 32-bit to 7 64-bit. I ran the upgrade adviser and it said my Linksys wireless adapter needed action taken. I went to linksys website, but only found the 32-bit driver, and I'm guessing that won't work on 64-bit, right? I have the WMP54G ver 4.1 if anyone can help me out.

I have a Matrox M9120 PCIe x16 graphics card. It was running fine in Vista x64 with the 1.0.3.35 driver. I ran the Windows 7 x64 upgrade, and everything seemed to be OK until I discovered that I couldn't open Windows Media Center or view DVDs or other videos. I tried to upgrade to the latest Matrox driver, which supports Windows 7, but the old driver wouldn't uninstall.
I contacted Matrox tech support and was advised that I should have uninstalled the old Matrox driver BEFORE upgrading to Windows 7. They said that Windows 7 has locked in the old driver but cannot recognize it so that it can be uninstalled because it is not a Windows 7 compatible driver. They added that the ONLY solution is to do a clean install of Windows 7.
This is outrageous. No such information appears on the Matrox website, and Matrox did not notify me of the terrible consequences of upgrading to Windows 7 without uninstalling the Matrox driver even though I registered the M9120 with them last January and provided my email address. Matrox knows that every customer faces a potential disaster when upgrading to Windows 7 but covers up the mess rather than notifying registered owners of the simple step to take prior to upgrading.
I'm not going to do a clean install but will use the Matrox card without the ability to play videos for the time being in the hope that some smart techie will figure out how to uninstall the old Matrox driver from Windows 7. If that doesn't happen, I'll buy some other fanless video card and replace the partially functional Matrox card.

I recently upgraded 2 PCs to Windows 7. Both of them are clean installs. 1 of them I used 32 bit (4GB RAM), the other 64bit (6GB RAM). They both have the Realtek High Def Audio sound cards built in. on the 4GB PC, Windows uses its OWN High Def Audio sound driver, which works but sounds like crap, no dept, no bass. On the 6GB PC, Windows 64 FOUND the Realtek High Def Audio sound driver so it sounds great. I have tried on the 4GB PC to install the Realtek High Def Audio sound driver (from downloading it) BUT upon restart Win7 reverts BACK to its own High Def Audio sound driver, which drives me nuts!!! I have tried disabling it and removing it before installing the Realtek High Def Audio sound driver but upon reboot it always goes back to the Windows driver. The download is an executable (and runs w/o creating a folder) so I can't point the Win driver to it.

I recently bought a dell latitude E6410 laptop running windows 7 ultimate. A few days ago it started playing up, at first I thought I had a virus of some sort as my protection had run out, so I downloaded another protection plan and ran a test which came back clean. Then a message came up up from windows saying that I needed to install a "P2P driver" and do a upgrade. So I downloaded the driver and did the upgrade which seemed to work. The next day I started up and it went straight to the start up repair, which came back saying my system cant be repaired automatically. I can get as far as the system recovery options. I tried a "system restore" and that didn't work, and a "windows memory diagnostic" and still nothing. I haven't done a back up disc or have any other discs so I'm pretty much stuck in a loop now. I've been looking into the "system image recovery" but have no idea what that means or what to do.
