Good Cheap Hard Drive Enclosure?
Dec 27, 2012Finding a cheap SATA 3 and USB 3.0 enclosure. I found one that I love but sadly it only supports SATA 2. So can someone help me find a nice hard drive enclosure that is cheap.

Hard Drive Enclosure Not Being Seen?
May 4, 2011I took one of my old drive from my old computer and installed in the Antec MX-1 Actively Cooled Hard Drive Enclosure.Then I plug the USB into my note book, the USB to SATA bridge works fine.However, I can not see the drive in "My Computer".I have checked a few posts and I looked into Disk Management.I found that Disk 0 is the internal HDD for the notebook, and Disk 1 is the enclosure HDD, my old drive, but it says that the disk is dynamic and is invalid.Is that the reason why I can not see my drive in My Computer?If a convertion is a must, can I still keep my data?

Nov 6, 2009I put my old hard drive into an external enclosure.(XP home) How can I transfer my files to my new laptop?
Windows 7 says to export the transfer utility to my old computer. My old computer won't boot up. I think the motherboard fried. Is there any way to import these files for transfer into my laptop from the (now) external hard drive?
I tried importing pics and finding my music. Access was denied on the "import pics" command, and I cant even see my music libraries.
I used my creative mediasource5 sniffer to search for MP3's on my external drive E. It found hundreds of little sound bites from the program files, but not my music that is in the old creative mediasource5 libraries and Windows media player library.
Many of my documents aren't showing up when I browse the files on my old hard drive E.
External Hard Drive Enclosure Will Not Show / Load
Oct 28, 2011i bought a trix hard drive enclosure/case for my 2.5 250GB hard drive. I connected everything up and inserted the hard drive usb into my laptop but windows will not show the drive in my computer. It does make the beeping noise telling me its detected the drive and it also shows in device management.The strange thing is i tried installing linux on it and it did, but the computer will not boot into it from the enclosure, but does from the hard drive. Ive also tried it on 2 computers and both will not assign the drive and give it a drive letter.

Oct 7, 2009I'm looking for a good cheap NAS drive enclosure that supports RAID 10, but I'm having a hard time trying to find one that is. I found some, but they only support RAID 0, 1, and 5.
I'm wanting to plug it into the router so that my desktop and WHS server can use it for storage with a few SATA drives in RAID 10 for speed and data protection.
Do you have any recommendations?
Error Accesing Lite On Drive In USB Enclosure
Feb 7, 2012have a LiteOn DVD-RW model iHAS122-18 B that i have been using in a non-oem usb enclosure without any problems for several weeks now. But as it is i couldn't leave things alone because the write quality was rather crappy and so i flashed it with firmware from a (electronically identical but with more feature) LiteOn model iHAS524 B. Now i have a big problem it no longer works well on USB enclosure. it does work perfectly internally, on SATA cable but on USB when i insert a disk in it the computer locks.

Dec 7, 2011I took out my Windows 7 boot drive and put it inside of a USB enclosure and when I try and go to my profile, I can't open Users folder on other computer. I don't have an administrator account on this other computer. Is there any way to open up the folder? It just says access denied when I try and open it up on a windows xp computer with no ADMIN privileges (I can't get admin on this computer).
On a XP computer that has admin it opens fine. I figured since I actually wasn't using the OS that was on the drive I wouldn't have any trouble reading any folders on it (but I guess that because it's NTFS there are more security measures, unlike FAT32 which would let anybody read anything). Would I just need to open up the folder on a computer with admin and then copy the things over while I still have admin.

Nov 5, 2009Just upgraded my Compaq Persario SR1550TX to Window 7 32 bit. The NIC card was not recognized. After chatting with HP they said there is no driver, as of yet, for the built-in Motherboard NIC for windows 7, good luck. (RealTek Sis)
So i went out and bought a Trendnet TEG-PCITXR NIC card. Windows Compatibility Website says it is compatible for Windows 7. After a reply from Trendnet technical support, there is no driver for Windows 7 for the NIC card.
Can anyone recommend a cheap NIC PCI card that has windows 7 driver? I have tried D-Link, Netgear and a lot of others but when I see if they have the driver for windows 7 they do not.
Anything under $25 bucks would be great. After 3 days of struggles any suggestions would be nice!

Oct 25, 2011So, I have a i7 2600K system with a solid state disk as the boot drive, and an older (c2008) Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB drive as the data drive for programs (that I deem as not worthy of the quick load times). The hard drive has given me some errors over time, and I bought a hard disk to replace it (a Hitachi 1TB). The issue I'm having is that the fact that Windows 7 puts a small (100MB) partition on the F3, and for some reason, even though I'm running Acronis 2012, it doesn't seem to be able to clone the F3 over to the Hitachi. I've also tried Drive XML, and for my 2 hour wait, I only managed to acquire a boot error. Thankfully, I've not done anything rash to destroy the data on the F3, but given the fact that I've seen corrupted files in Steam from that drive, I'm not will to trust it long term with my data. I really need to get the data onto that Hitachi, though... Anyone have any advice for upgrading the HDD in a SSD/HDD system? I don't really feel like it should be so hard, especially if I've bought Acronis True Image, but maybe they haven't designed their product to handle this scenario quite yet?

Turning my computer PC on today, all I got was a blue HP invent screen with setup, boot menu, system recovery, and system diagnosis, and I could not get past it. I entered the BIOS and figured out that the hard drive was listed as "not installed." Pretty sure that is the main problem.I tried a system restore (with the Windows 7 install disc), but I guess the computer couldn't read the hard drive enough to enter safe mode (I tried restarting and F8ing several times). I put in an external hard drive, and the BIOS read it; however, windows does not allow you to partition an OS on a hard drive.

I also have a 64 Solid-state drive in there as my primary hard drive that Windows was installed on and a couple of programs are installed on. Jul 1, 2012I installed 2 hard drives using a caddy in my laptop, 1 SSD for the OS and 1 HDD for data. Every once in a while (once a year id say) I still need the DVD drive so I bought an external DVD enclosure (Generic). The problem right now is that windows doesn't recognize it or rather doesn't recognize it correctly.On windows 7 pro x64.here is a pic of the device manager so windows recognizes it a a disk drive automatically (changed it manually to optical drive) and adds a portable device (? WPD FileSystem Volume Driver). The drive appears in My computer but empty.
What Iv tried:
- chose manually all available drivers from windows in update driver.
- disabled power management on usb
- other usb port/computer (on Windows 7 32bits)
- using a power cable instead of the usb power cable
- google search for drivers using the device id ( USBSTORDISK&VEN_GENERIC&PROD_EXTERNAL&REV_1.12303030303030303030303030&0)
Western Digital Enclosure, No Partition Found?
Jan 8, 2013The USB plug on it has desoldered and ripped off of the PCB. I attempted to remove the drive and swap it into another aftermarket enclosure but I can no longer see the partition on the WD harddrive. I figure WD is using some kind of HW/SW encryption. Would I be able to buy another enclosure and swap the drives out to recover this lost data? If not, can I recover this data fully

Jun 5, 2012removed the drive from the enclosure and got a SATA>USB dock thing for it. it didn't appear in the Computer with my internal drives but was visible in diskmgmt as "Healthy (Active, Recovery Partition)" but with the File System column empty and no letter assigned. right click only offers a menu with "Help" on it. used diskpart to assign a letter and it now appears in Computer but says all its capacity (except ~250mb) is free and, when I open it, there are no files to see, only a folder "Recovery", which is empty. in diskmgmt it still has no letter assigned. used a program called Recuva and it shows me some small files but nothing I recognise.

Hard-drives Apparently Corrupted After Attempted To Install A Second Hard Drive?
Oct 8, 2011make a dualboot comp by adding windows XP to a new partition. I created the new partition with 20gb. (From the 500 of my actual harddrive)But before I actually installed on that, I got distracted with a second harddrive that my dad got(for no reason). It had a full copy of Windows XP backed up on it from another computer, so I figured I would just use that for the dualboot. I plugged it in (wired the same way as my old harddrive, but different data slot), restarted, checked the harddrive in explorer - all the data was there / reading correctly / etc, and I used 'easyBCD' to add the new harddrive to the boot list.(Which, of course, crashes if I try to start it. I just wanted to see what it would do). For a reason I can't remember, I unplugged the second harddrive for a bit, started the computer on accident (I don't know if anything loaded before I shut it off), and then when I plugged it back in.Windows 7 would not launch. It goes to a DOS-like window, except it's just a flashing _ and it never does anything even after a few minutes. XP didn't work still.. so I decided to reinstall XP (as I couldn't tell which harddrive was which on the list, I unplugged the main harddrive while installing onto the new).. and when I did this.. it formatted and installed fully... then restarted.. then restarted.. and restarted.. and just kept restarting, never showing any thing past the manufacturer logo/BIOS load-button-message-thing. So, I then try to use my 3-disk Windows7Recovery disk(burned myself with a program apparently included by the manufacturer.) It installed fully, appearing to work.. but when I launched it, it said "Invalid Partition Table" and wouldn't boot past that. When I insert my driver installer disk, it gives me a basic DOS window thing. dir A: shows the files in the disk. dir B: for some reason shows the same. C: says "Error reading from drive C: DOS area: general failure". All other letter:'s just say "invalid drive". (I'm doing this with both harddrives in.) I attempted connecting the harddrives to an old computer, but it gave an error for both. (It detected the harddrives, but said it had an error reading from it. Windows Explorer asked me to format it... {i'm willing to format one of the drives if anybody thinks it will help, but the old harddrive has data I'd prefer not to lose.} ) Looking on google, I saw several problems that all have similar problems (less overdescripptive than I am though) but none of the fixes suggested worked for me. Also - as I have two different with different errors, I only need to make one of them work.)Also - my other available computer has a CD burner / floppy drive if either are required. I also have several USB's. The computer can boot from USB's and CD's (tested), and I could easily take the floppy thingy and connect it to the computer.also - this computer is probably still under warranty unless unscrewing the hard drive voids it. .. does that count as modification of the computer?

Aug 21, 2012I have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

It contain only 1 single partition disk that is c drive only.Recently, i accidentally convert the c drive which contain OS into dynamic disk.After i restart the laptop, it shows the following: BootMgr is missing Please press Alt, Ctrl +del to restart Now, i not able to enter the window. I am so worry because my important data is kept inside the hard disk, and i still not yet do any back up copy on it.I searching on this forum and learnt that i need a window 7 installation disk to repair it, but my problem is the computer dealer not give me any windows 7 installation disk when i baught this laptop as their said all the driver and windows program already kept in side the harddisk.I tried to remove the laptop hardisk which is a 500GB toshiba SATA hardisk. Then, i use the other laptop with Windows XP professional with the intention to copy yhe file inside the toshiba hard disk.However, after plugged in the hard disk to the other laptop, under the disk management, it shows that the toshiba disk as : dynamic disk, unreadable.i having problem to backup the data inside the toshiba hard disk.....

Dec 13, 2011I've been noticing after re-installing Win 7 that I get random floppy drive seeks and the hard drive light flashes like crazy and then everything is fine again.I have Clamwin AV,Spyware Blaster and Spybot S&D installed,but that's it,no Windows Defender or Essentials AV.Any ideas what causes this? It's a minor annoyance,but I just want to make sure it's not damaging anything.Also would Readyboost help me? Oct 18, 2012Almost new Inspiron 5720- Home Premium. i7 quad.
After installing three or four updates yesterday my laptop now clicks the optical drive a couple of times as I start any video or music file on the hard drive. Not a fatal flaw, but, very irritating just the same. Did a system restore to the morning before the updates- same behavior remains. Installed updates again, removed them one at a time, same thing. Restored to over a week ago, same behavior! What is up with this clicking. The files start and play immediately, no problem there, I'd just like the optical drive to mind it's own business. Movie discs play fine, burns stuff fine, just go to your corner and SHUT UP!
