View 3 RepliesMy Gateway laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) recently crashed, and when I rebooted it, it displayed this: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Info: The boot selection failed because a required devices is inaccessible.
The thing is, I don't have a Windows installation disc! I was just browsing the internet when my laptop crashed, and now I can't do anything; repair your computer, safe mode, boot from last known good setting, etc. all result in the same error screen.
I am receiving an error message on my Gateway One ZX4300-01e. It continues to ask me to: Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key.I bought this computer on ebay. it was a seller refurbished item and does not have a boot recovery disk.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run memtest on a new build and for some reason, the machine will not boot from the disc drive. I'm positive that it CAN boot from the disc drive because I just installed windows 7x64 on it last night. I have already configured the BIOS to boot from CDROM as it's first choice and selected to boot from CDROM thru the boot menu. I am 100% positive that this memtest disc is good because I just successfully ran it on my main machine with no problems.
ps. to power the disc drive I am using a 4-pin molex to SATA adapter since my PSU only has 2 SATA pwr connectors and they are being used to power my 2 HDD's. I don't know if this has to do with it...could it be a bad adapter not powering the drive at initial startup? Bear in mind that the drive works fine once I'm in the OS.
I cloned my Laptop HDD (120Gb) via Acronis to a 120Gb SSD (Kingston). I checked the SSD after cloning and all the files seem to be there. I replaced the HDD with the SSD and I get a WIndows 7 message Status:0xc000000e and Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.I went to BIOS setup and the Kingston drive was listed as No2 after DVD/CD drive as boot drive. I moved it to No 1 position and tried again. Same result. I googled the issue and others seem to have problems with SSD drive replacements.ANyone got an answer

So I just got a new gateway dx4860-ub32p tower. The problem I am having is that when trying to use a second monitor for extended desktop the hdmi is not recognized. When I start the computer both monitors have the boot screen and starting windows screen. Past that only my monitor plugged in by vga cable is recognized. When I go to graphics options there is only one screen option shown. I am using windows seven the second monitor is a flat screen tv.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if there is a way for me to set up my computer in the following manner:
C: <- Main Boot Drive (60GB SSD)
D: <- Copy of Boot Drive (60GB SSD)
E: <- Program Drive (1TB HDD)
F: <- Storage Drive (2TB HDD)
G: <- Download Drive (500GB)
I have done the separate program and storage drive before, but I was wondering if perhaps a way to back up my boot drive without necessarily raid. It was brought to my attention that if something were to go wrong with the data then raid would automatically copy it (which makes sense), or am I worrying to much?
I recently replaced my boot drive and just got everythign up and running. I had removed my backup drive while I replaced the boot drive so that I could us it on another computer.
Now when I add the 2nd hard drive back to my computer I get a message saying something like "can not load os" right after the bios screen comes up and before Windows begins to load. If I unplug the second drive the computer will boot just fine.
If I access the boot menu and select my boot drive the computer will boot and my second drive will work just fine. I do not have to enter the boot menu and select the boot drive on every startup?
want the drivers for gateway w650i?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have been on various forums for advice but unable to solve - this is the problem -
* it turns on & I CAN get into advanced menus
* it will not repair itself no matter what
* it will not go into any other modes , safe Etc....therefore I cannot restore to factory settings etc....
* ive Tried all tricks such as F8, Alt & F11 etc..... to get into advanced menu settings - all lead to the black screen
* everything i click on enter leads to a black screen - only a white curser appears.
its as if there is no way of accessing the computer disc/ hard drive in anyway from boot up. there is clearly a hardware problem but i cannot access anything internal beyond ordinary & advanced menus i just keep being led to the black screen & no activity. the menus work & that is all. i run Windows 7 on a Dell inspiron 1564.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. W/ASUS P7P55D Deluxe board. Very stable and non buggy. Computer was running great with multiple drives. I substituted one of my 1TB drives with a brand new Seagate 3 TB drive. With the new drive hooked up, the computer will not boot and gives a message that there is no hard drive detected, put media in and hit the key. (something to that effect).
If I enter the bios in the condition, it shows all the drives in their correct order and the boot sequence is the first hard drive, CD, etc. It has detected the new drive as drive #3. But it will not boot. But, if I disconnect the new drive (power and SATA connector), the compute will boot up fine. I have checked all the connectors ad they seem fine. Is there something about the sequence in which the SATA connectors have to be connected?
I currently do not have any internal optical drive, but I do have a USB optical drive instead. Would it be possible to boot up Windows 7 from the external drive in the UEFI Bios? This is for a new computer without a formatted hard drive, if it helps.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI took out my Windows 7 boot drive and put it inside of a USB enclosure and when I try and go to my profile, I can't open Users folder on other computer. I don't have an administrator account on this other computer. Is there any way to open up the folder? It just says access denied when I try and open it up on a windows xp computer with no ADMIN privileges (I can't get admin on this computer).
On a XP computer that has admin it opens fine. I figured since I actually wasn't using the OS that was on the drive I wouldn't have any trouble reading any folders on it (but I guess that because it's NTFS there are more security measures, unlike FAT32 which would let anybody read anything). Would I just need to open up the folder on a computer with admin and then copy the things over while I still have admin.
my desktop computer won't boot. When I turn it on it displays the welcome splash screen and then goes black. A message will then display that says CMD failed to start and then it will shut down. It does the same thing in safe mode as well.My question is. I have already set up the HD from the desktop as an external to my laptop so I could get files off it. Is there any way to do system restore on the hard drive when it is set as an external? Because I did this last night and I think if I restore the drive it will fix it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to run a small VBS script on startup, before the Windows selection screen appears. So I found out about the Startup scripts in Group Policy and tried adding the VBS script, or a batch file that calls cscript with the VBS file to get the output to console. However, neither solution actually displays anything during startup, at any point until the logon screen. It should be noted that the script simply prints out the drive letters used.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm hoping you can help me unwind an annoying performance issue I've uncovered in Windows 7; one that doesn't seem to be documented at all if the Google is to be believed.
I recently upgraded my laptop (a Lenovo T60p, C2D T7200 proc, 2GB RAM, ATI X1400) with both a new SSD (an OCZ Vertex 60 GB) and Windows 7 Pro x64. Performance and stability has been terrific. Especially that sub-30-second boot time!
Initially, I had desktop composition disabled, so that Windows 7 was running without the Desktop Windows Manager. I just recently enabled it when I discovered that it's pretty damn sexy, and had little impact on battery life (if anything, it seems to have gotten better).
However, now my laptop takes much longer to boot - about an additional 30 seconds or so following the Windows login screen. When I disable DWM, it goes back to booting quickly. Now I realize you can't get something for nothing, but 30 seconds for a single process? A fairly lightweight process that you can enable instantly in the desktop environment? My hunch is that that just isn't right - something is interacting badly. Thus my questions are:
1. Does anyone know if this is normal behavior for DWM?
2. Is there anything I can do to address this?
3. Or, is there a good forum/online resource where I could post this (rather esoteric) question?
My computer is running very slow lately.
