Freeze Ups And BSOD Events In Custom Built Computer
Dec 30, 2011
i have recently built a computer and i am experiencing frequent freeze-ups and bsod events with it. none of my previously built rigs have experienced this, and the most recent computer used several of the components currently in use, including the ssd, graphics card, case/ps, cpu cooler, and windows 7. [code] all of this has been assembled recently, though many of the components (listed above) have been in service for some time.nothing is overclocked.i have experienced more freeze ups than bsod. these have come at all different conditions, including web-browsing, watching video (both wm player and online Internet), downloading files while computer is unattended (i return and find computer unresponsive) and occasionally while gaming (mostly ms flight sim x). i have not determined a pattern.cooling is very good in the case, and the asrock board fan controllers maintain the cpu reported temp below 45c at idle and i have not seen the core temp above 60c in any situation other than a run of the program 'core damage'. i followed the directions for how to assemble a help thread for this forum, but i have not looked up any error codes yet (have not ever needed to with windows 7) so i will look into that in parallel.

I recently built a computer and am getting BSOD's on a relatively frequent basis. After checking around I have no idea what the problem could be. This is the first build I have ever done. Here is what I know: Using WhoCrashed, it tells me that in 5/6 crashes it was related to ntoskrnl.exe, and in the 6th is was related to ntkrnlmp.exe,The BSOD's are not recurring, that is I will get one, then go back and do the same thing I was doing before, and it will be fine.

So I recently custom built a computer and installed windows 7 Home Premium with a Dell OEM disc that came with my laptop and tried using my dell laptop's activation code. It doesn't work and I don't understand why. I used a dell CD and the dell code and it still doesn't activate?

I'm trying to select my own sounds in the sound event settings in windows seven, but when I test the sound, it doesn't play. All of the default sounds can be used, and I haven't noticed any other sound problems, but it won't let me use my own sounds, even if they are in the .wav format.

I've recently built my a Windows 7 desktop and i'm getting all kinds of blue screens.I have tried doing a clean install, i've done a system restore since then to when it was working best and i've still had BSOD.Originally it kept BSOD when i had two sticks of RAM in (at least once every 30 min) and worked fine when only one was in. I've since done a clean install and have both in.I've attached the dmp files from the two BSOD i've had since i have done the clean install. The only programs installed are Avast! 6.0.1000) and the software to run the wireless dongle (Netgear WG111v3) plus whatever came with Windows 7.I've ran dskchk and sfc /scannow with no errors reported. I've ran memtest86 and that returned no errors (though only ran once)The motherboard has MemtestOK! and that shows no errors.Motherboard: Asus M4A88T-V EVO USB3 (the latest drivers for the chipset, audio, graphics, lan and usb3 from the amd website have been installed)THe drivers for the wireless mouse and keyboard are install as is for the wireless dongle. The BIOS is the latest chipset as well.
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor 3.00GHz

I recently built a new computer for my brother, and as of yesterday, the system will only power on, and the only way to power it off is by either turning off the PSU or unplugging the power cable, neither of which I feel particularly comfortable doing.
When the computer's power is off, the power can be turned on by pressing the power button. However, when the computer is on, pressing or holding in the power button does nothing. If the shutdown option is chosen from the start menu, the computer will go through the standard shutdown sequence, and the monitor will go to sleep, but the fans in the computer will continue to run. If the power button is pressed at this point, the computer will act as if it is turning on normally and boot into Windows properly.
This problem started late last night. Prior to then, the computer would shut down and power off normally. No hardware changes were made to the system between the last successful power down and the time in which this issue started.
System hardware:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
RAM: 4GB DDR3 (Two 2GB sticks)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition (3.3 GHz Dual Core)
PSU: Cooler Master RS-460-PSAR-J3
Motherboard: ASUS msq-m4n68t-mv2(b)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda ES.2 500GB
GPU: NVidia GT250

So I recently put together a computer for a friend of mine. We booted it up, and everything seemed to be fine. Unfortunately, he has been having intermittent BSOD crashes, often when installing new software (though not always). We've tried reinstalling Windows 7 (64 bit) several times, and I've had him run various RAM and hard drive diagnostics, which have (so far) not indicated any issues. My suspicions are beginning to point towards the motherboard or power supply, but honestly I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to analyzing dumps. I've attached the relevant dump files. I don't have a full list of hardware directly at my disposal, but if necessary I can have him run a dxdiag tomorrow.

I have recently built a new computer and everything runs fine except almost EVERY game I play always crash. It takes me back to the desktop and I get the program has stopped working message after about 10-20 minutes. It not only crashes on highend games but minecraft and other lowend games crashes with the same error. All my drivers are updated, I have .net framework installed, I updated the bios, I ran memtest and it came up with no errors, I tried changing the compatibility to windows xp, it isn't overclocked and I tried rebooting everything. I'm not sure if its a problem with windows or the computer.

I had a lot of blue screens occurring in June-July, but that was fixed from removing my antivirus and replacing it with microsoft security essentials. Since 7/22 I've been getting blue screens randomly--sometimes when I turn the computer on from hibernation it will crash, or the wireless drivers will "disappear" and reappear after the computer crashes and restarts. They all seem to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe and are driver power state failures.

I recently bought a new custom built gaming PC and it works fine in terms of performance. I've had the PC for just over a week and on two occasions I have had the problem where the PC would just completely freeze to the extent that I can't open task manager, move the mouse and the keyboard would stop working. Also the Skype call I was in would just stop. This would force me to have to reboot my PC using the button on the tower to shut it down. So far the two occasions have happened when I'm not actually on a game and when the problems did happen I was using two different programs. The first occasion I was on OpenOffice and the second occasion. I was just browsing using Firefox so I don't think it is program specific.
Here are my specs:
Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.4ghz
8gb 1333mhz ram
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
Gainward GTX 660ti
Asus P8Z77-V LX Motherboard
600w Xigmatek PSU
The first crash happened two days after owning the new pc, the second crash happened today. Is there anyway I could access a crash log?

For a long time now, I've been having issues with Explorer.exe and the built in apps (cmd, notepad, not wordpad interestingly) freezing when I type anything. Now, this only happens when I first boot up my computer, for the first 10 minutes or so. During this time I'm reduced to using Chrome to surf the web or making batch files to run commands.I know for a fact that this is not an issue with my keyboard. I tried using the on-screen keyboard, and when I manually type stuff in with my mouse it will still freeze. I'm pretty sure it also happens when I boot into safe mode, but I'll check to be sure. [Update- looks like it doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode]

I've done some research and all the drivers are up to date, to the best of my knowledge, and I have installed all the updates from Windows Updates? I'm not sure what to try next.I downloaded the 'SF Diag Tool' and have attached both the minidump and the system information.

why a newly built PC keeps getting BSOD and doing random shutoffs. I have replaced the memory and MB and have tested with and without the video card or OB video. I have also tried a different PSU to see if that would help. I am leaning towards a bad CPU or incompatible memory, but wanted to see what you folks think first. Also, the system has been reloaded twice. The first time was a new install and then I reloaded everything after I installed the new MB.
edit: forgot the system specs:
OS - Windows 7 Pro 64
MB - Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
CPU - Intel i7-3770
RAM - Patriot PD000256-PXQ316G1866ELQK PC3-15000 1866MHz 16GB (4x4GB) Kit
Video - AMD FirePro V4900 1GB DP/DVI HF
PSU - Rosewill Hive-650

Recently I upgraded from an old core2 duo to an i5-2500 quad 3.3GHz, 16gb Patriot ram, Asus motherboard. I noticed the first time I booted up something was wrong with the voltages for my PSU (Corsair 520w modular) which I had used previously. I didn't get the details of it time before Win7 started. After that I have noticed the fan died in my PSU, so I'm not sure if this is causing my BSODs. I am using an NIC and onboard Audio, and a Geforce 430 video card. The details of my bsod are below. This has been ongoing for weeks now and it's very annoying. I recently updated my Win7, restarted hoping that would fix it. Also I've scanned with AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, and Malware Bytes. I am out of ideas since I have a new install of Win7 64bit.
BSOD (occurs when playing games or just idle):

i have already had issues before with this brand new machine, mainly BSOD's which i solved by replacing usb drivers from 32 to 64bit corresponding to my Windows 7 version, i use this pc mainly as a DAW for music production (fruity loops/ableton live), besides usb mouse/keyboard (microsoft standard) i only have virus ti 2 synth connected through usb and using it as both midi keyboard and soundcard, lately im experiencing freezes with do NOT result in a bsod later on, i just have to physically restart or shutdown. couldnt find anything on the event viewer or any other acceptable way of finding issues, attached the SF diag collected files.

When I first bought my laptop installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, the built in webcam was appearing in 'computer' but when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, it disappeared from 'computer'. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5552 and my older sister also has an Acer laptop with a built in webcam and also not appearing in 'computer' and I think she is still using the default installed operating system because hers is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit And I don't think she would choose to just format and install the same exact OS right out of the box...I called Acer tech support and they say they can fix the problem remotely but for a fee of almost 100$ which I dont have.
by the way it dont actually really matter if it works or not because I have my laptop connected to a 52" 120 hz full hd lcd hdtv via hdmi cord so the laptop is closed and upside down with the battery taken out ...on my fireplace mantel...all i use it for is to download 1080p bluray rips and watch 1080p bluray rips via 2tb external harddrive
And the driver for the built in webcam does show up in device manager without any problems there and it is also up to date

I just built a computer, but it will not load an OS. I got Windows 7 x64 to load once, and everything worked perfect for about an hour while I updated my drivers and whatnot, but then it froze and erased the hard drive. I've been trying to install it the exact same file in the same way off my flash drive and it just won't work. I've tried to switch the ram around and remove one each time, using the cd, using a friends cd, using new connectors from the cpu to each drive and I even tried installing Windows Xp pro but it didn't work for any of that. Here are the parts that I put in my computer, maybe some aren't compatible with each other? [code]

System boots up fine but when I start to install windows computer shuts off. I have a seagate hd so I downloaded seagate tool and wiped the hardrive because I was thinking that may be the problem. Tried to install windows again computer cuts off. Whet in and checked the ram using windows.
