Create New Folder Template?
Aug 19, 2011Is it possible to create a new folder template? As a working musician, the standard music template is not functional for what I do. However, I don't want to change the standard music template as it IS functional for pre-recorded music, which I also have on this machine. The other standard templates (music, general items, documents, pictures, videos) are all in use with files and folders normally filled with such items. So I need a NEW folder template where I can keep my professional music files.

Apr 11, 2011As Windows7 has a feature "Automatic Folder Type Discovery", it will automatically change the folder template of a folder to match the file type of the last file added or saved in the folder. Of course, you can change the folder template to one of General Items, Documents, Pictures, Music and Videos manually.Here is my problem, for example, I have three folders: A, B and C. Folder A is located in D:, B is a subfolder to A, and C is a subfolder to B. (D:ABC)If I change the folder template of A, from General Items to Pictures, for example, the folder templates of both B and C will also be changed to Pictures. AND, if I change the folder template of C to Documents, the folder templates of A and B will be changed to Documents too. There seems to be a bond among the three folders, if I change the folder template of any one, the other two will be changed automatically.At first, I thought the "Automatic Folder Type Discovery" might cause the problem, but after I've disabled "Automatic Folder Type Discovery", the problem is still a problem.

All of that is fine, and the template works fine.My question: can I have my custom template show up NEXT to the My Templates folder, Blank Document template, etc. Right now that top row of Available Templates has: Blank document, Blog post, Recent templates, Sample templates, My templates, and New from existing. Aug 28, 2011tried everything to delete this folder on my external HDD, yet nothing works. Every time I try to delete it says "You require permission to change this folder." Changed the permissions. Nothing. I even managed to get the lock off of the folder but it still wont delete. I restarted my computer, downladed LockHunter and a couple other programs.

Jun 7, 2010I've installed a 32-bit Metastock program in my 64-bit Windows 7. The program uses lots of templates and I imported them from a 32-bit Windows XP system. They work well but when I create a new template in Windows 7 the icon for that template has a golden lock attached to it. I can delete the template but I can't copy it, edit it, or replace another template with it. There are several posts in this Forum but I couldn't determine if they were talking about the same problem I have and I really didn't understand the fixes recommended. Looks like Microsoft has created a clever but obscure procedure that's hard to change.

Jan 28, 2013I am having an issue with some of the sites i got to like wowhead, facebook to name a couple where they only load the template but not the actual information. I attached a picture of what I mean. Things I have tried so far is disabling firewall for a moment and reloading the page this did nothing, have tried loading on firefox, chrome, and IE (most recent versions of all) It has been about 2 weeks that I started noticing it and its becoming very frustrating. I also tried reinstalling flash player as that is the only thing that has been changed in the last two weeks on my computer.

When I was using Windows 8 I Changed the location of my music library to my user folder on my windows 7 partition. Now when I boot in windows 7 the folder that was previously named after my username is now titled "my music" All of the contents of my users folder are in the folder. I cannot rename the folder back to my username by right clicking it and trying to rename it.

Apr 5, 2011I probably did a dump thing (only the 100,000th in my lifetime!). I backed up my working folders on my XP desktop into a zip file where the options were set to save the relative path of each file. I then extracted the backup zip file to my Win 7 laptop, not remembering that Win 7's folder structure is different than XP's. So I wound up with a new folder on the laptop "Documents and Settings", with all the stuff that was under it. So I was going to open it, move the files from (XP's) My Documents to (Win 7's) Documents. . . but there's just a weeeeeee problem: The Documents and Settings folder is LOCKED!!I have gone to the Security tab under properties and changed the permissions to allow EVERYONE full access, and it still denies me access. I downloaded Unlocker, but it doesn't show up in the menu when I right click the folder, so I have no idea what it's good for/how to use it. I can't delete it because that's not a choice on the menu when you right-click it.BTW, yesterday it had a padlock icon overlay on it. Today it has a shortcut arrow. I also have no idea why it's showing as a shortcut.

I am the "administrator" on this computer, and I made the correction. However, on the C: drive, under the C:Users folder, my misspelled name persists. I select then right-click, but I cannot change the folder name. I see that the "lock" symbol is displayed next to the folder name, so obviously, the folder is locked and that explains why I can't change the folder name. Now to be very specific I linked to what i would like to have changed. i would like to change that to this look:
see that folder with the green arrow under the favorites menu. that is what I'd lvoe to have back again.
i do not like this whole my computer->c:->Program files-> winamp-> skins(that is an example) and to go back have to click on on the previous folder name. It would be nice to have that button again. so i can move back to the previous folder easier and faster. as well as the back button so i can click move quicker between folders.
Unable To Change Folder Icon
May 25, 2012I am unable to change my folder icons.
I right click on the FOLDER > PROPERTIES > CUSTOMIZE and CHANGE ICON but whatever picture i choose the folder icon doesn't change.
I've tried renaming the picture to .ico but that doesn't help either. I put the picture into another new folder by itself but that doesn't help either.
I get the error message : "The file contains no icons"

Closest thing to what I want yet, but not quite there yet.I want to be able to write a bat, script, exe (visual basic) to change the icons by icon name. i.e. File named x.avi, code looks in icon directory for icon named x.ico, file named y.avi, code looks in icon directory for icon named y.ico, etc.What I've found so far is that once a folder has had a custom icon, I can change the desktop.ini and the folder icon will change as well. If I restore the folder icon (custom properties dialog) or if the folder has never had a custom icon, changing the desktop.ini file never changes the folder icon, even after closing and reopening the windows explorer.This implies there is another folder property which must be set.I'm not strong in bat file command but I understand that xcopy copies everything including all properties. This is why Neutron16's bat works and my code does not.
