Flash Drive Recognition Delay?
Jul 12, 2010
Every time I plug my flash drive in to my windows 7 x64 PC there's a delay of about a minute before it gets recognized by the operating system (where it seems to be doing nothing - the light on the drive is just on not flashing). The drive's fine as it gets instantly recognized on Linux and OSX.This always coincides with two errors in event viewer: both event ID 7011, and the same error:A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the <service> service.Except one of the errors is with the ShellHWDetection service and the other is the LanmanServer service.Any ideas why this is happening? It didn't happen before with my old flash drive. The new one's a Corsair 8GB voyager drive is that

Have XP on C drive and looking to install Win 7 on 2nd Sata drive for dual boot. However, when installing a 2nd Sata drive my XP bios identifies it correctly as a Sata drive but my PC Disk management recognises it as a Removeable disk preventing me from installing Win 7. I have tried a couple of different Sata disks with the same result.

I've recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I'm having problems. I had originally used IE 9 but i was having so many problems i went back to using IE 8. Right now the problems that i'm having are, Windows 7 does not recognize my slave drive and it will not let me open an external link for a new window from an open window (thus i can't even verify my e-mail address for the game i want to start playing). Oh and one other thing, i keep getting a message that says i'm not running a valid windows program. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. I've included the TSG SysInfo as well.

Im running Windows 7 Professional x86 final on this machine:
athlon x2 5.000+
2x2gb ddr800 dual-channel memory
ati radeon hd 4650 512mb 128bits
500g sata hd
The os is updated and all the settings of the os are on default. The settings of videocard are in performance/balanced.
The problem was found in counter-strike 1.6 and Urban Terror 4.1 (its a quake3 mod).
In desktop, without gaming or something else, i see that the mouse has some kind of delay (almost nothing here).
During the gameplay i get lag and slow fps...
I disabled the "DESKTOP COMPOSITION" and the problem was not solved but its better with this crap disabled.
I wanna know if you can tell me if there is some config, drive issue, or something else to make it works without this option disabled.
Im thinking in some option on regedit to make desktop composition stop lagging the opengl games.
Does anybody knows how to solve it without disabling the desktop composition?
I like the face of windows 7 and don't wanna loose it for a game too old.

Before I even go further: yes, the "hide empty drives" has been unchecked)I had to reinstall my machine and I was able to to see the drive letters for the internal flash card reader. However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.

I know, should have a backup, I was actually about to create a backup when the flash drive failed on me unfortunately. My newest backup is from about 5 days ago, so I'd prefer to be able to restore the current files.
I moved the drive over to another computer and tried to save a file but when I checked again the file was gone, like it never saved at all. Subsequently, after removing and plugging it back in the computer did not detect the drive (or see it in disc management). It does show up as a generic USB drive in the device manager, but there are no properties for it.
When I add it to a computer, it still adds drivers for it, but then nothing happens after that. It may also be a hardware problem, since the drive fell on the ground pretty hard a while back, but seemed to be working fine. There isn't an easy way to open it up and check.
I also tried using a few data recovery programs, but they couldn't detect the drive either.

I have a hard drive I want to backup to a 64gb flash drive and then restore it to another different hard drive than where it came from. I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.

I recently ran into a very weird windows 7 bit problem after installing it on my desktop. I cannot copy large files/ holders into usb flash drive or write large files to cd/ dvd. The copying/ moving process would stay on for about 5-10 seconds then freezes then I get an error message. That is:
H: refers to a location that is unavailable. it could be on a hard drive on this computer...
I have all the latest drivers.
And windows/ nero 9 can't use my dvd drive to burn files.
Some info about my system: AMD X4 630 CPU. MSI KA780G (AMD 780G chipset) mobo. I have 2 sata hdds, non raid mode. The DVD drive is IDE. 4gb ram ddr2 ram. windows 7 64 bit.

I have never needed to do this before, so I have no knowledge on the subject. I have a user who will be taking data home once a week, so I want to encrypt or at least password-protect her flash drive. It will contain regular, typical Office documents. Now, the tricky part is, she has a Dell PC running Windows 7 Pro in the office, and a Macbook laptop at home (not running any version of Windows). Does something exist, especially free, that will allow me protect her flash drive, and make it accessible to her on either computer?I need to do this for now, temporarily. I'm trying to convince my CEO that DropBox and others are just as safe and roughly the same process....but for now, I have to make the flash drive work.

I installed the Chrome OS IMG file on my flash drive and tried to boot from it, but it turns out my flash drive is now un-recognizable. I tried assigning a different drive letter in computer management, but it doesn't show up there. Sometimes it will show up and Windows will say that I need to format it, but the format always fails.Other flash drives are recognized by my computer. I am using a Lexar Jump Drive, but I'm not sure what model it is.

I have had 1000 issues, but i'm going to try and narrow it down. it seems like everytime I try to fix a computer, nothing ever just does what it is supposed to.At the moment I created a boot drive out of my flash drive with windows 7. I set it to boot first on my bios and it loads but hangs up on the first background screen after the windows logo and nothing happens. This info may help. I have two hard drives plugged in (IDE). the master is the one I want to do a clean install of windows. The slave drive already has windows and if I boot from it I can get to the desktop, but the problem is when I try to run the install from it and the computer restarts after the second step in the install for the main HD, it doesn't try to continue the install. Ive been working on this for a week.

booting through USB and it's quite hard to explain but at the moment what I need to know for succeeding with the installation is, is it ok to unplug the USB flash drive after the first restart during the installation? My friend just told me that after it is done expanding the files and reaches 100% and does it's first restart, I can unplug the USB and it will continue it's job as all the files are saved on the HDD now.
