I have a 8 GB USB Flash Drive which shows up as "Disk 1" in Disk Management but never comes "Online". I tried changing the drive letter and double-clicking in Explorer. But it says "Please insert a disk into Remove Disk (I". When I try to format, it says "There is no disk in drive I:. Please insert a disk and try again."I tried HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool but it says "There is no media in the specified device."
View 7 Replieswhen using sites like bbc iplayer or Internet the sound plays fine but the video freezes for a second every few seconds, i also see the same issue in vlc, windows media seems fine.
also my pc beeps repetitively when i exit firefox after having choppy playback, this last for a minute or so, this doesn't happen with vlc.
i have tried updating my nvidea drivers and also direct x but this has made no difference.
i use the latest version of firefox but have tried internet explorer and it has the same issues.
my pc is brand new from dell, although i re-installed everything from a fresh copy of windows seven as soon as i got it
i have 1 terabyte of space split over 2 actual drives that are partitioned into 4 drives, my c drive has 84 gb spare.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I installed Windows 7 64-bit, I have been getting a strange visual glitch in the centre of a lot (but not all) of the online flash videos I view.
The glitch is a flashing transparent square that appears to show in between video frames in the centre of the video. You can only see it by its outline but its big enough to cause constant annoyance.
Bizzarely enough the square dissappears if the video is put into fullscreen and doesn't appear all videos, only the majority.
I have the latest flash player installed and the latest catalyst drivers for my Radeon 4980, but the glitch persists in both 32-bit Firefox and Internet Explorer.
I can't get sound from any of the web pages I've visited. I tried to install a codec package, and it won't allow me. I am the sole user of the computer, I'm running W7 64bit with a X-Fi soundcard. All other sound works fine and it is hooked up via spdif optical link to a seperate surround sound system.
Therefore, My first question, How do I get the sound to work?
2nd question, even if is or isn't the codec issue, why won't windows update the registry with the codec installation package (1402 error). I am the administrator!

When I start my computer up software is meant to start up a NAS drive that is on the network. This works fine but this software only starts the NAS drive after the computer is started and Windows 7 places it has offline. When the drive finishes startup should it not also display in Windows 7 that it is now online? This is what happened on my previous XP OS and it also works with another 2 machines that I have attached to the network which are XP and Windows Vista. how do you get Windows 7 to automatically check to see if the NAS drive is online or offline?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI needed to copy files between two PCs and didn't have a USB big enough so I took the HDD out of my Dell Vista laptop and used it as an external drive to transfer the files I needed moving. When I connected it up to the destination PC running windows 7, the drive couldn't be seen in explorer. I had to bring the drive online in Disk Management in order to be able to explore the drive and take the files I needed off of it. All was OK until I put the drive back in the Vista laptop and then found that the drive wouldn't boot. All I get is a blinking cursor after the initial Dell logo screen. like as if the BIOS can't load the drive or something.Can someone please tell me what bringing a drive online in Disk Management does to the MBR of that drive?

However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know, should have a backup, I was actually about to create a backup when the flash drive failed on me unfortunately. My newest backup is from about 5 days ago, so I'd prefer to be able to restore the current files.
I moved the drive over to another computer and tried to save a file but when I checked again the file was gone, like it never saved at all. Subsequently, after removing and plugging it back in the computer did not detect the drive (or see it in disc management). It does show up as a generic USB drive in the device manager, but there are no properties for it.
When I add it to a computer, it still adds drivers for it, but then nothing happens after that. It may also be a hardware problem, since the drive fell on the ground pretty hard a while back, but seemed to be working fine. There isn't an easy way to open it up and check.
I also tried using a few data recovery programs, but they couldn't detect the drive either.
I have a hard drive I want to backup to a 64gb flash drive and then restore it to another different hard drive than where it came from. I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.

I set it to boot first on my bios and it loads but hangs up on the first background screen after the windows logo and nothing happens.This info may help. I have two hard drives plugged in (IDE). the master is the one I want to do a clean install of windows. The slave drive already has windows and if I boot from it I can get to the desktop, but the problem is when I try to run the install from it and the computer restarts after the second step in the install for the main HD, it doesn't try to continue the install.
