I am saving my files under .rtf for homework to be completed because I create the files on WordPerfect, and I can`t use .wpd to open the files, but .rtf will open the .cmd program, rather than open up an RTF file. If this is the wrong discussion board, please redirect it if you can. I think it is an error with Windows or a flash drive. I am using Windows 7 and the flash drive I`m using is 4 GB.

Should I do it before or after I remove a lot of unwanted bloatware that came with the new PC? How can I tell if I have service pack 1 installed? If not, where can I go to download it? Or should I? The new laptop is a HP brand desktop replacement with a 17.3 screen. My old one has a 15.4. I'm having trouble adjusting to the wider screen. Also having problems adjusting it to where I can read text clearly. I tried the true-text settings, and the dpi but the text still looks too small and fuzzy.What happened to the Move, Copy, Delete menu that appears on the left hand side in Windows XP when you highlight a file or folder? How do you move files/folders from the PC to say a flashdrive or vice versa?

So me being me decided to allow it to try and fix it and guess what happens, I wind up with a file with the same name as the folder it decided to remove and a new folder full of what looks like setting and configuration files (got a cog icon, cant remember what extension they have). View 1 Replies View RelatedI had backed up (on my main hdd) several pictures/documents/movies from an old harddrive several years ago- recently i tried to access it and while i can see the whole file structure and names and even information im unable to open any of them- this is almost across the board with the exception of maybe a couple files. I wonder if it could maybe that these are from a different windows based os and maybe incompatible with this computer? could it be a 32bit/64bit problem? or maybe a different file system?

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust recently i had to reformat my computer, i had some pretty personal documents where i placed in a password protected folder. I forgot exactly how i password protected it but to access the file i would click on a file called locker, and a black screen would open up, i would type in the password push enter and the file would appear, then to lock it i just open locker again and push "y".
I had to reformat my computer so copied all the contents that was inside the folder (and not the locker) onto a hard drive and reformmated my computer, however, now i cannot access these files. I can see them but they all say access denied due to permission rights.
I've followed all the security changes ive found and made myself the owner, set security settings to full control etc however, still cannot access these files. They are really important and was wondering if there was a way i can access them again or is there any programs that can unlock them? Ive tried all the programs similar to |unlocker"

Computer woken up from sleep, go to task bar to open an app, get flashes of app when selecting app's icon on taskbar, but app doesn't open. However, some apps open and some apps don't. Those that do open, when left clicked on for a menu item, the app closes.Although an app opens it is not functional. The only way to restore normalcy is to hard close the computer and reboot, then everything is OK.

However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.

The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. View 3 Replies View RelatedI know, should have a backup, I was actually about to create a backup when the flash drive failed on me unfortunately. My newest backup is from about 5 days ago, so I'd prefer to be able to restore the current files.
I moved the drive over to another computer and tried to save a file but when I checked again the file was gone, like it never saved at all. Subsequently, after removing and plugging it back in the computer did not detect the drive (or see it in disc management). It does show up as a generic USB drive in the device manager, but there are no properties for it.
When I add it to a computer, it still adds drivers for it, but then nothing happens after that. It may also be a hardware problem, since the drive fell on the ground pretty hard a while back, but seemed to be working fine. There isn't an easy way to open it up and check.
I also tried using a few data recovery programs, but they couldn't detect the drive either.
Im having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.

When I tried that, Windows 7 tried to open it with Winamp. Looked through my Start menu Programs and didn't see Flash Player.
Downloaded and installed from Adobe.com. However, when I now try to go into default programs and associate the .swf file type with Flash Player, that app doesn't show up as an option.
I have a hard drive I want to backup to a 64gb flash drive and then restore it to another different hard drive than where it came from. I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. I cannot copy large files/ holders into usb flash drive or write large files to cd/ dvd. The copying/ moving process would stay on for about 5-10 seconds then freezes then I get an error message.
