Flash Drive Corrupted - How To Recover Files / No Backup
Mar 23, 2011
I've been using a flash drive for coursework and transferring data and windows 7 suddenly decided it was corrupted despite me finding no problems with it. So me being me decided to allow it to try and fix it and guess what happens, I wind up with a file with the same name as the folder it decided to remove and a new folder full of what looks like setting and configuration files (got a cog icon, cant remember what extension they have). How do I recover files that haven't been backed up???????
I had a hd go out on me. So I order a new 1.5 tb hd and install win 7 fresh on it. When I try to access my old hd it just states it has drive I with no info and ask to be formatted before used. I want to recover my old files off of it.
I just purchased a new USB 256 GB flash drive to transfer documents from my desktop to the flash drive after the process completed I rebooted the computer when I opened my computer the flash drive was showing invalid characters when I opened a flash drive document they also had invalid characters labeled to them and I get the following error " The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
I bought a Transcend USB flash drive in India - 32 GB - unopened packaging - which Transcend later claimed is counterfeit. Using several computers, I cannot access the drive.I cannot format the drive using both W7 and DOS formats on different computers. The format always runs almost to the end and then fails, reporting corrupted directory.I am not trying to recover any data - I only wish to repair (uncorrupt) the directory?
until recently I had an XP PC with a single main OS IDE HD. To backup I performed monthly an Acronis clone to an identical 2nd IDE HD that I bought for this purpose. Easy. Now I have a Windows 7 PC with two identical SSD's in RAID0 as main OS drive and a 2nd internal HD. I would like to perform a backup of this system so that I can later restore it to any HD configuration I choose (for example a single SSD, or a single HD, etc). Is this possible or the restore will need to be done to the same original configuration (two SSD's in RAID0+2nd int HD)? What would be the simplest software that will accomplish this?
I am looking for a good External HD, but most reviews indicate that they do not last too long and have other problems. I am proficient with a flash drive. I want to make a system image on an external drive, but a limitation of Windows 7 System Image is that you cannot put it on a flash.
If I download Acronis or another similar appl. would I be able to make an image on a flash drive?
I would like to backup my files using Backup and Restore by Windows 7 and I was wondering if a 64 gb flash drive would be enough space for a backup? Someone told me that the program compresses the files, i do not know if that is true or not but, If I right click on local disk drive it states that I have used 178gb of 288gb. I would really like to Backup just my music which is about 27gb and some other stuff which is which is about 10gbs and whatever Windows 7 needs to back up. [code]
At the moment, my Gateway M-Series laptop which has Windows 7 32bit will not do a system restore! It says my local disc ( C: ) has errors, it cannot check these errors so that I can restore the computer
My computer doesn't want to connect to the Internet also (lucky for me I have other means of accessing the Internet) and every time I open Chrome or any of my software it says there are corrupted files and the disk check will not run because there are corrupted program files? I haven't downloaded anything of late I keep a fairly clean hard drive, but when I went into system restore it set one of the restore points as 'DirectX Installed' which incidentally I haven't installed and isn't in any programs list.
After some tweaking I found I was able to check the disk and restore the computer but I would still like to know if any of you have any input on how to avoid future problems!!
I copied several large files (between 1 and 4 GB) from one USB hard drive to another. At the target destination several of the files had defects. They were in general not completely unreadable. Most could still could be opened but had clearly corrupted data. how can this be detected/prevented. Doesnt Windows 7 have some kind of an integrity check when copying files? Also is there any good software to compare files for being exactly identical down to the last bit? Ideally with the capability to compare whole folder contents so that it hasn't to be done file by file.
I was trying to backup my flash drive and all of a sudden, it did not work. I kept plugging my flash drive in and out but that did not work. Here is the error that I got."The last backup did not complete successfully because Windows Backup could not backup any of the drives in the backup. Make sure that the drives are plugged in and working correctly."The error above is the message when i backed up my flash drive. no. and thats all, process completed! And just then I saw there was no other logical drive left...neither E nor F. Now I can see only C drive and nothing else. how to recover my hard drive and the files now?
I have a crashed Lacie network storage device, something in it's networking board is fried. It's comprised of 2 separate HDD's, both 500gig. I was afraid they were going to be stripped but it appears they hold their own complete files. I was able to look at the files through a file recovery program on Hiren's bootdisk. Said program was unable to keep file structure however. It seems theres no way to activate it to be read as a disk in windows. Computer management reads both of the disks as having 5 small partitions and a large (476gig) partition on it. No real way to look into that partition though?A couple other programs analyzed the disk and tell me it's 'linux native'. how to pull the files as well as folder structure out of it?
My harddrive have 3 partitions. I accidentily formatted the one that I need. The Windows files are not in there, but almost every programs that I installed is installed in that partition. Now, I could launch any program, it says Avast snxhk.dll is missing. If I try to launch a portable program from my use, I get this "file system error (-1073741515)" message. What should I do?

Somehow Recover my files did make a better search and was able to recover the picture files fully.
i have taken off the two HHD from my 6 Tera External ( WD ),put them to my computer but they didn't work, then immediately i returned them back to the external unit, but the RAID0 was corrupted & it's didn't work, i don't care about it but the DATA inside it.I used Data Recovery program it recovered the data tree, but when i recovered the data mostly videos with their right size, but one i opened more than 10 files none of them worked.
I can get a 5 gig mkv file to save to a 16 gig flash drive. It says there is not enough room. I have formatted the flash and it has 16 gig available. how can I get the movie to save to the flash drive?
I am saving my files under .rtf for homework to be completed because I create the files on WordPerfect, and I can`t use .wpd to open the files, but .rtf will open the .cmd program, rather than open up an RTF file. If this is the wrong discussion board, please redirect it if you can. I think it is an error with Windows or a flash drive. I am using Windows 7 and the flash drive I`m using is 4 GB.
i have a 4gb flash drive which i would like to use to back up my files.the trouble i am having is when i am backing up the files a message comes up select the location to back up files. it gives 2 locations one your hard or second drive, second choice is select a dvd drive to save files to disc.i have tried to find the usb drive so i can save the back up to the flash drive but to no avail.
I just got a new laptop pc with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I'm making the jump from Windows XP to 7.I know I have to make a recovery cd. Should I do it before or after I remove a lot of unwanted bloatware that came with the new PC? How can I tell if I have service pack 1 installed? If not, where can I go to download it? Or should I? The new laptop is a HP brand desktop replacement with a 17.3 screen. My old one has a 15.4. I'm having trouble adjusting to the wider screen. Also having problems adjusting it to where I can read text clearly. I tried the true-text settings, and the dpi but the text still looks too small and fuzzy. What happened to the Move, Copy, Delete menu that appears on the left hand side in Windows XP when you highlight a file or folder? How do you move files/folders from the PC to say a flashdrive or vice versa?
I have a 300GB hard drive that I am trying to attach. After attaching the VHD file and selecting the backup files on the hard drive the device apparently attaches but no drive is created with the next available drive letter so that I can explore the contents of the drive.
Moved doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg files from a backup drive to a new computer. Files showed up, and I used them for a few days. As it was a demo computer I changed the owner name via regedit. Then could not locate the files. Have used two undelete programs, these locate the files. When recovered however, although the names show, the contents are unreadable. Went back to the backup drive. Cannot locate the files, even using an undelete program.
I just got a new laptop DELL Inspiron 15R N5110 (i3 processor, 3GB ram, 500 GB hard disk) 2 days back. Suddenly the system started lagging and it hanged last day. When I tried 2 restart, it said there is an error in loading d hard disk. It asked me 2 boot several times. The laptop now have started making clicking noises. Its now even getting heated up also. I ain't able to restart it now. I've my documents saved on d laptop in a separate drive. (I had partitioned d drive as C and D where D is for my personal data). I m very much concerened about the data which is present in d laptop now. Will I be able 2 retrieve it back??? How should I repair it?
I've got a new Dell Latitude which is used for business. I've encrypted the hard drive using Truecrypt. I've encrypted the entire drive, not just made an encrypted container. My question is though, if I use the windows 7 backup and restore feature, and backup the hard drive to a NAS device, in the event of the laptop being stolen, or if I choose to work with files on another computer, will the files which windows 7 backs up work? I work in IT, so have years of experience here, however encryption is something which I am only just learning. If the windows 7 backup and restore feature will not support this, can anyone recommend an alternative? I've looked into Acronis True Image Home 2012, however still need to evaluate this.
