View 1 RepliesMy mom's computer started having issues booting a day ago, it seemed like something was draining all of her cpu's power. I verified that was not the case, and ran the computer in safe-mode. I downloaded Ccleaner and cleaned her registry with it (Yes, I verified that the registry values it removed/modified were safe, most of the having to do with programs I know were removed from the computer.) After a re-booting it appears the BCD has gone corruptit would be an easy fix, but her computer, (Bought at the store in a IVY Tech college.) did not come with a windows install disk, so repairing the BCD has proven difficult. Is there any other way I can do it? (I did ensure she made some recovery disk's when she bought it, but as far as I call tell, all they can do is fully restore windows.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem with my Windows 7 installation. The computer I'm trying to install it on is running Windows XP, and any time I try to boot from the disk (I have it set to be first in the boot sequence), it seems to just skip over the disk altogether and run boot from the hard drive (into Windows XP). I looked into this further, and it turns out that the computer sees the disk as being blank (0 bytes out of 0 total bytes).
When I put it into other computers, it is read fine, and I have even used this disk to install multiple copies of Windows 7 on other computers. The computer that isn't working can read any other disk fine, and has never had DVD-drive related problems. I've even tried copying the files from the Windows 7 disk onto another DVD, as well as a portable USB drive, but those didn't seem to work either (it gave me some error about the disk not being bootable).
Disk read error ctrl+alt+dlt to restart your system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter I got my new laptop, I installed antivirus, windows updates, etc, removed bloatware and installed the software that I actually use. Then I created my System Repair disk (single disk). Does this disk include all software and windows updates that were on my computer at the time I created the disk? I have read that System Repair disks will only have the factory settings of Windows 7, but I don't know if this is the case for all System Repair disks or only those that came with the computer and were made before the computer was purchased?I've also read that a System Repair disk could include a system image. Is this true and done by default when the System Repair disk is created?

View 2 Replies View RelatedPer microsoft I need to do try a repair install from original disk. Is there a difference between running repair install from Windows or booting from original disk then selecting upgrade install? Is one or the other preferred? Directions say both attempt to preserve installed programs, but not all drivers, and both require reinstalling all the 60 or so windows updates released after my disk. so no differences there.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've built a brand new PC and decided that I would like to install windows 7 64 bit on my SSD, I got a disk+key from my university before christmas so that'd i'd be ready once i'd built it.
I built the PC yesterday and realised that I'd left my external DVD drive at my university accommodation, I'm at my parents house for christmas break so that's a few weeks left. I can't really wait that long so I used my parents laptop (which I'm posting from now) to turn the disk into an .iso and use the microsoft USB utility to make a USB stick that i could install from.
However when I tried the install gets to 'installing features' and gives 'windows cannot install required files' error code 0x80070570 I looked the code up on google which sent me to a lot of threads here, so far I've tried:
Taking all but 1 stick of ram out and the graphics card. Reseting the bios to default Installing again without rebooting after error. using cmd to select the right partition
trying to install Windows 7 on sony laptop with a copy that is different from the original copy of Windows 7.did partdisk, clean all, create partition, and dvd install gave the "can't install to disk, turn on disk controller in BIOS" error. there is no disk controller function in my BIOS.if partdisk clean all was successful, does that mean the HDD and its controller board are ok, that is, not physically damaged, and the problem is with software/installation/setup etc.?what should i do next, in order to have a successful install?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with my Windows 7 Home Premium edition.
After having installed it and starting it up for the first time it wont go further than the "logo" screen.
The only thing i have done is to install the Radeon 4800 series drivers..
There is no error codes or anything and i am running out of possible reasons.
My system was running perfectly with the RC candidate. The first time i even removed my second 4890 and it didn't help anything.
Please someone know what to do. Could it be a corrupted disc i have recieved from amazon?

When I try to install Windows 7 from an USB stick on an Asus EeePC 1201HAB with a Kingston SSDNow V series 120GB the process freezes when I try to install Windows 7 Home Premium or format on the ssd.
Even installing from an external dvd player results in the same problem, when Windows starts to copy files during installation, the proces freezes every time. The ssd itself is working, I checked that in another system. Could it be a problem with the combination of a Kingston SSDNow V series in the Asus eeePC 1201HAB?
Its a bit complicated to state my situation, anyways, I have 2 HDD, and the PC won't boot if I removed the old HDD even though I've formatted the old HDD and win7 is on the new HDD.I have 2 physical HDD in PC
(1) 80GB old hdd and noisy. (not SATA)
(2) 500GB SATA hdd and sexy.
My powersupply only supports 1 SATA connection, and I don't have a DVD-Rom.I've unpluged the (2) and replaced it with my dad's SATA DVD-Rom to clean install Win7 64bit on the old (1), after I've finished, I removed the SATA DVD-Rom, I plugged back the (2), installed Win7 64bit ISO again from the (1) on (2), then I organized everything and split the (2) to E: and F:.
Everything's fine until I wanted to remove the old noisy hdd. When I did that, the PC started to bitch on me and didn't want to boot from (2).I've tried to rename (2)'s letter to C:, but it gave me 'invalid parameter' error. I doubt that it'll work by itself since it'll need to rename all the softwares' locations and stuff.so I went through another way, renaming (1) to a random letter like K: and wishing that'll work, I've restarted, shutdown'ed, and unplugged (1), didn't boot from (2).So it left me with only and only solution is by clean install, -but- I can't do it since I don't have an old dvd-rom nor do I have 2 SATA PSU cables... so I go back to the begging and...know that I have only 1 option by installing the win, is by the iso.
Now, what I'm thinking is that there's a possible way(maybe?) that I can replace Disk 0 box by Disk 1 box. Here's a picture to clarify it.So that's it, notice the 2 boxes down there? I'd like to switch Disk 0 by Disk 1 and then remove the old crappy 80gb hdd.
I have three computers and two 'full install' Win 7 Pro disks. It was a frenzied time in my life. Enough said.Anyway, while sorting out old disks, I realize I don't know which disk goes to which computer. If I ever need to re-do, I would like to know.I have the product keys on the two disk sets, so can I search the registry for those numbers? Then I would know. The bigger mystery will be the odd one, the third laptop without disks. I am certain it has some kind of recovery feature, perhaps in Setup. Not sure. First, I have to figure out which laptop does not have disks
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a failed Norton Ghost hard drive transfer recently onto my new internal hard drive, so I got tired of endless troubleshooting, I gave up and just bought a new Windows 7 Home Version 64-bit OS (I had lost my laptop copy) to install from (my laptop had been giving me a "no operating system found" error at bootup, and every option I tried to get it back failed). This disk isn't a burned ISO image - it was bought from Best Buy and is directly from Microsoft.
Tonight, once I installed the new disk and it began to boot from it, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade (which it said required a running OS) or custom install (brand new, where existing files/folders/programs won't be saved). I opted for the custom install. So it started loading windows, and I saw the Windows logo again (finally), but just a minute or two into the installation I got an error message:
"The installation was cancelled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the installation process will not be saved."
A popup box below that said, "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation." Huh?
I'm thinking maybe if the hard drive is formatted clean the installation might work? But if the necessary files aren't on a full OS disk, where are they supposed to be?! I'd format the hard drive clean if I thought that would work, but I can't find how to get to the command prompt window to do a HD format without a working OS.
upon reboot, instead of me getting the message "operating system not found," it now says "BOOTMGR is missing. Press Crtl+Alt+Del to continue." I haven't gotten that before. And when the installation failed, it never even got to the point where it asked me for my product key. I don't know if that matters or not.
I bought a PC with Windows 8 preinstalled. However, wanting to win 7 install, I formatted my drive and I realize that I can not install Windows 7 on a GPT disk. Or my HDD is already formatted. What to do?
