my moniter connection broke off the board. trying to hook desktop to my laptop for moniter use and networking. cant see my desktop screen to be able to change any settings to make it discoverable.
View 1 Repliesstarted noticing how explorer.exe keeps using loads of my CPU power, earlier both processes were using 40-50% of my CPU causing everything to work extremely slow/stop working, now one of them seems to have cooled down and it's the other one running at 48-52% the entire time. Has anyone got any idea why this is happening?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe problem is, Windows 7 gives me errors when using programs such as IE, WoW, etc. Blue Screens. Often when I startup it blue screens to a dump screen. Problem is resolved by just rebooting. This issue seems to have been coming up when I installed a Galaxy GT 240 video card. Using CRT connection to my 42" LG LCD. Motherboard is Biostar G41-DVI, processor is Pentium D 820 which is set to 220 which gives me roughly 3.1ghz.
The fan is around 3k rpm and the temp levels are steady at around 31c. Could the issue be with the video card? It started actually the first time I installed it. Could there be a setting in bios I'm over looking. I have not tried to update the drivers for the card.
I am having a hard time figuring this one out. I can restart explorer.exe and the problem goes away temporarily. I ma not sure what program is starting the problem though. Process explorer is showing that "shlwapi.dll!SHRegGetUSValueW+0x1a4" is to blame

I am looking at a 1TB disk, which with partitioning considered is showing as a 931GB disk - however even though I am using only 421GB of the disk space Windows 7 (Explorer) is showing that there is only 202GB free on the disk.As you can see above I selected all of the files on the disk, right clicked, selected Properties, and the results of my enquiry are shown (superimposed over the Explorer view).

From what I can gather, this process relates to Windows update service; and I don't want to end the wrong process (since each leads to one or more separate locations) I would like to know what I can do to remedy this; because it is extremely irritating! I am also having trouble with Explorer crashing, which of course bombs my desktop.. Now to the actual problem. The reason I bought all this RAM was so that the computer would run faster and more smoothly. Despite the large amount of memory, however, I still experience frequent spikes in CPU Usage, which I have learned is not related to RAM very much if at all. Regardless, I would still assume that my system wouldn't have to overexert itself to run simple tasks like Windows Explorer (i.e., folders, desktop and taskbar) or the Task Manager itself.
Either of these tasks, as well as others such as "System," "svchost," or "File I/O Surrogate" (none of which I know much about) can spike to anywhere from 30-70% of the CPU without warning, and when it does, the total CPU Usage ends up being 100, which REALLY makes my laptop sluggish and unresponsive.
I understand that RAM does not directly impact CPU Usage, but I would also assume that, since my laptop isn't ancient, that its CPU shouldn't struggle to display my folders/desktop/taskbar, or to run the Task Manager itself. I also run a daily virus check with Symantec Anti-Virus, so I don't think infection is the issue. In addition to that, I monitor memory usage alongside CPU usage, and the memory usage never goes higher than 10.5 (it usually hovers around 6-8) or so GB of my available 16-- insufficient RAM is also probably not the problem.
I've started to experience a strange problem where my laptop seems to be completely idle before starting explorer.exe (So I have a blue desktop with only the mouse pointer) this is after login as I have it set to automatically login. I have tried various things, I have looked through Autoruns and there is nothing which I can find which would be delaying startup, I have tried removing almost everything non-essential from startup however the problem does not fix. I have also tried doing a boot trace with Process Monitor to see if any process is timing out, however nothing stands out to me as delaying explorer.exe from starting.

I can close it out with no problem but find it annoying to see it on EVERY startup. I don't know if something happened during a HP or Windows update or if possibly picked up some spyware or malware somewhere. I ran scans with Avast anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes with nothing serious showing up...just cookies.Everything seems to run properly with no problems but this showing up on startups/reboots, opens on safe mode also. I have a ACER D255 netbook with intel atom N550 (1.5ghz, 1mb L2 cache) 1gb DDR3 memory and 250 gb hdd. lately it has been a tad slow and freezing up will using google chrome. my task manager says right now that CPU usage is 4% but Memory is at 75%, sometimes up to 90%. it also says that i have 89 processes running.

If I keep using it, the memory usage will slowly increase until it reaches 99%. If I boot up the machine and just leave it there for a couple of hours, the same happens.I try to restart (via windows), it logs off, shuts down the system, the coolers keep spinning, the motherboard lights are still on, but it doesn't boot up again. It remains like that. I have to restart via reset button or power button.

My Audiodg.exe process is currently using 2,786,070 kB (not just normal bytes, kilobytes) of Ram. 2.66gb+ of Ram! I have searched the web as well as this site for any problems. My audio is working fine though... I have no idea why this using so much ram. Im guessing a memory leak of some kind... I restartand it starts off at a normal pace...

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?
My hp dv3t has been giving a message about checking a disk for consistency every time I reboot(ed) for about a week now, but today it froze after the countdown reaches zero (for bypassing the procedure)�nothing I do can get it past this step. What do I do? I tried booting from Safe Mode, it listed a bunch of drivers but then froze.I'm using W7 64-bit Home Premium.

Clicking on the Administrator gives me a desktop with an on-screen keyboard; the computer keyboard disabled, and a panel saying,"FAILED, The application has failed to start." Going back and clicking on the Standard User icon gets me running for the most part. Here's the BIG problem. Every time I try to install any program, the User Account Control box drops down and asks for the Administrator Password, plus the question,"Do you want to allow the following programs to make changes to your computer?" You click "Yes", but, since no one is in the Administrator office, your installation comes to a halt. This blocks "Install" and "Uninstall". I get lots of messages I need Adobe Flash Player. I've trie over and again to install it, going to Windows 32 bit, but can't uninstall my previous tries. It will always download, and that's all. I've tried to install my digital camera's CD, but can't.
When I opened the local connection properties, or saved the settings, explorer.exe crashed.I found the fault module is netcfgx.dll, how to fix it?
