View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed a Crucial M4 256 GB SSD in an Acer Aspire 5742 laptop as a replacement for it's aging HDD. This was followed by a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on the new drive.
So my next step is to ensure that the system has all of the appropriate and up to date drivers installed. Most of the relevant information I found on the Acer website:

I am familiar with most of the device drivers listed here and don't expect to have any trouble tracking down the best versions currently available but I am not sure about the "Intel SATA AHCI" driver in particular. It has been my understanding that to enable TRIM on an SSD dedicated as the system drive you just have to set SATA mode in BIOS to AHCI and windows will take care of the drivers during install of the OS.
So my question is will I see any benefit in installing the latest Intel AHCI driver (ver 11.6.0.1030) over the MS one originally installed with Windows?
Alternatively is it a better idea to leave the configuration as it is (working pretty well) and avoid potential software conflicts?
I have a Sabrent TV-USB20 and running Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit on my PCinstalled the driver for my platform on Sabrent USAall 3 options, tried one after another, I installed them on my computer, but still after this, the computer does not recognize the device.I go to install manually through Add Hardware or device manager and Windows says that the driver is not compatible with windows 7 64bit (even when I'm installing driver for Windows 7).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just built my first pc, and I am stuck at installing windows 7 . Here's what happens, I am trying to install off a USB stick as I don't have a dvd drive for this build. It will load into the setup and it'll stop on a screen requiring me to load drivers.
Here is what it displays:
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now".
So I found drivers for my mobo Asus M5A97, I select them and then after I click next this message appears: "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media".
I don't know what to do! I've tried all I can think of!! Nothing seems to work! I am trying to install windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I've tried installing windows vista 32 bit, and its been saying the same thing as well! I found the drivers here: [URL].

So I installed Linux, hoping to fix the booting problem. I successfully got Linux on the partition which originally failed, but now I get this boot screen option,Is there some way to correct my computers boot to either have the original boot where I can select either partition to boot from with EasyBCD or just deactivate Linux as long as the computer boots directly to my Windows 7 and I don't get the original error.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just got a new HP laptop with Windows 7 and have got it set up the way I want it, apart from the above problem - I either have icons with arrows and the big blue letter e or the blue and green globe icons. If, for instance, I add a shortcut to Facebook, I would expect to see the Facebook icon(white f on blue backgeound), but I don't, I get one of the above. I have tried right clicking and going to properties and then change icon but the icons I need are not there.

I have 3 hitachi drives that came out of a IBM storage array, they are being re-purposed for another project. Only problem is when I hook them up to my windows 7 machine via sata connectors they are only displaying 372gb of usable space, these drives are 750gb. In disk management the drives only display the 372gb volume. How can I reset the partition size on these drives?

View 8 Replies View RelatedA while ago, I had a triple boot system, but now, I'm using one of the hard drives for something else, so now it is only dual-boot. However, for some reason, I cannot get Windows 7 to see the new boot file.I constructed the original boot system with EasyBCD. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. When I started up the software to make the dual-boot system, it said it couldn't find my boot files. So, I constructed the dual-boot system, and I wrote it on the drive. However, when I start up the computer, I still see the old triple boot menu. I tried clearing it with the Windows 7 restore disk, but it doesn't see Windows 7 on the hard drive.
