I'm getting a new SSD and i'm clueless what I need to do to get my drives setup like I want them to. I want to install the OS on the new SSD and remove everything from the old drive and make it completely blank. How do i do this?

I'm having issues with transferring data between hard drives in my system. I have 3 500 GB drives in my system connected via esata. Just a few minutes ago I tried transferring 24.1 GB from one hard drive to another and it took forever I was getting under 10 MB per second. Once I got everything transferred I created a folder in the drive I moved everything to and then moved the same 24.1 GB plus another folder that was 10 GB and everything transferred into the folder instant, so fast I couldn't every look to see how long it was taking cause it was there the minutes I moved the folders to the new folder. Why did it take so long transferring that same data from one hard drive to another one in my system?? I should be getting a whole lot more than 10 MB per second.

I'm building a new rig and the plan is to have two O/S drives one for XP and one for Windows 7. In addition, each drive will host the O/S-specific apps - games on XP, productivity on Windows 7, etc. A third drive will house the user data files.
I have two questions:Since I will be starting from scratch what is the ideal sequence for installing the O/Ses in a dual-boot config? Can Windows 7-64 coexist with XP-32 without having to fiddle with BIOS settings? Okay, come to think of it I have another question: could I add a third O/S drive and have a triple-boot config with Win 98-SE?

I've been having some issues with a computer that belongs to CEO of the company I work for. It was built by his son in law and that son in law doesn't really have time to work on it anymore so fortunately "end of sarcasm" that responsibility falls on me.Computer was running great until about two or three months ago where after shutting it down for the night and turning it back on in the morning would cause the computer to reboot three times after going through POST and during 4th time he was able to boot into OS (WIN7 64bit). I updated his bios and that seemed to fix the problem, BUT the computer was set in a Raid 1, but for some reason it is no longer set up that way. I see both HDD as separate HDD in "My Computer" C: & D:, both are 600GB with about 400GB of space free. How can I return them into their raid 1 configuration? MOBO is GA-X58A-UD7 Rev 2, Intel Core i7 970 cpu with 12GB DDR3 RAM Total. He has about $10,000 worth of programs on it (Electrical & Mechanical Engineer) and it would take me weeks if I had to start from scratch.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install a copy of an x86 version of Windows 7 Ultimate for weeks. For some reason when I first installed it It did not recognize my hard drives. I was ok with the upgrade at first (from Windows Vista Ultimate) but along with the disk space it is taking up from windows.old, I want a clean copy. When I go in the setup, click install, and go to the Custom Install tab, no hard drives or partitions show up. I have tried installing drivers from the Western Digital site, to no avail.The ultimate question I am trying to get answered is how do I get a my hard drives to show up on the setup and finally get to my destination of having one partition, with my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on it? This is the information of the hard drives and where I tried to download the drivers to allow the installation to work: WD Support > Installation > SATA & SAS > WD Caviar SE / SE16 (SATA I)
I tried to load the drivers at the installation and apparently they were not the correct ones, although the most recent ones I could find were for WinXP.I am getting frustrated with Windows 7! I am in the process of putting (5) 3TB HDD's into my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) to rip my Blu-ray collection to for playback in my home theater room via a Popcorn Hour player. Each drive is independent and I will be systematically filling one drive before going onto the next.The problem is that the Popcorn Hour players communicate with the PC by specifying one folder via SMB that contains all of my media. Since I am doing independent drives, there will be one master folder on each drive containing all of the media for that said drive. Meaning, in terms of the Popcorn Hour/SMB setup, there are five folders I need it to *see* and catalog.

The old drive powers and runs and the new computer recognizes it in printers and devices but I can't open it to access files etc. I know the old drive was formatted with Vista and 7 can't read the old drive. I know that there are no MS methods for transferring programs after performing a custom install. I can't do an upgrade because I'm upgrading from 32 bit Vista Ultimate to 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. This means re-installing masses of software and patches and updates. The last time I did this, from XP to Vista, it took weeks to finally complete the process.
I have found this application Laplink PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant that purports to move your existing applications from Vista to 7 on the same PC. The company has a good reputation and for about £10 it doesn't seem bad value (1 migration).
Anyone know anything about it?
I have windows 7 installed on a 1TB hard drive. I want to transfer the whole OP to a SSD I might get to boost transfer rates. I heard I can back up windows 7 on another HDD, installed my SSD then put my disk in and select the image manually on the drive I backed windows 7 on.

I want to transfer the desktop and other settings (MS Office) and files from the desktop to the laptop. The desktop has 2 drives, one with Windows and program files and the other with User Data. My laptop has one drive partitioned with a similar setup, Windows and Programs on the C: partition and User Data on the D: partition. When I try to transfer I get the message the transfer cannot take place because there is not enough room and to delete some files to make room. The problem seems to be that the transfer wizzard is trying to transfer everything from the Desktop to the C: drive of the laptop, rather than C: to C: and D: to D:. Is there a way around this ? I have tried to map the drives but it won�t let me do that!
Secondly, if I only try to transfer fewer files, I am told the Desktop is not connected to the domain, but I have not set up a domain and when I try on the desktop, the option is greyed out.

I uploaded all my iTunes data to the drive making sure to consolidate my library first so that all my playlist/rating data would be uploaded as well.
