View 4 RepliesI have a hp laptop w/ w7 64 bit and I just bought an MSI all in one pc w/ w7 32 bit. Tried the easy transfer with a flash drive and was told could not transfer 64 bit to 32 bit files . Some tips said that this could be done manually but I'm not sure what that means. Is that w/ a data line? and physicaly connecting the two computers? Do I have to do it all thru emails. I'm not trying to transfer programs, just pics, video and documents.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an externally connected (by way of USB) samsung hard drive from my dead HP Slimline Vista connected to my newer HP Slimline Windows 7. The old drive powers and runs and the new computer recognizes it in printers and devices but I can't open it to access files etc. I know the old drive was formatted with Vista and 7 can't read the old drive. But it's my understanding that there are drivers that should be able to open and allow me to read and transfer from the old to the new. I can't install the old hard drive in the new computer because there are no extra connections or slots to mount it
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, recently, my friend gave me his computer because he has upgraded his system and I found out that his PC is the exact same spec as my computer BUT his PC got 2 more extra RAM slot than me so, I was wondering to transfer my entire PC into one with his. I suppose, I can give it to a max of 6GB of RAM but the problem is...
Due to my lack of HDD and space, I can't afford to do a backup for all the files which I want to backup and, I was wondering...
1.) Can I just transfer my HDD with Windows 7 inside into his PC and use like normal?
2.) Will my files will be inside after the transfer?
3.) Is a fresh-install really needed?
I bought a PC which comes with Windows 7 pre-installed. It probably has a partition with Windows 7 installation for restoring purposes.Since I'm going to run linux on this new box, I thought I could use its Windows 7 installation on the my windows box which currently runs vista.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought an SSD drive for my computer, only 60GB or so, and wanted to run my OS on it, and a few programs I use most days (Adobe suite / few games). Then use my existing drive (About 140GB) for photos and other things.
So far I've put the SSD drive in my computer, hooked it up, and formatted it so it shows on my 'My Computer' as drive :E.
I know how to put programs over, but how, and what is the best way to transfer my Windows 7 OS over to it?
I know that there are no MS methods for transferring programs after performing a custom install. I can't do an upgrade because I'm upgrading from 32 bit Vista Ultimate to 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. This means re-installing masses of software and patches and updates. The last time I did this, from XP to Vista, it took weeks to finally complete the process.
I have found this application Laplink PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant that purports to move your existing applications from Vista to 7 on the same PC. The company has a good reputation and for about £10 it doesn't seem bad value (1 migration).
Anyone know anything about it?
I have windows 7 installed on a 1TB hard drive. I want to transfer the whole OP to a SSD I might get to boost transfer rates. I heard I can back up windows 7 on another HDD, installed my SSD then put my disk in and select the image manually on the drive I backed windows 7 on.

One laptop is running Windows XP with a firewire port and the other is an ultrabook running Windows 7 (usb ports only).I'm looking for the most inexpensive way to be able to transfer videos to the laptop. As far as I can tell, the video camera only has a firewire out. I have tried connecting the camcorder directly to my windows XP laptop, and am able to see the camcorder, but I am unable to get the video playing. Is there someone who can tell me step by step how to transfer the video and what the best laptop to use for this?

What is the best way to transfer files, pictures, music, contacts, etc. from XP to Windows 7? My email and contacts are currently in Outlook. I don't know what email program to use on the new computer since I bought the Student and family version of Microsoft and I don't think it includes Outlook.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a new Lenovo laptop with Windows 7. I have an old Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows XP. I realize I need to move my Firefox bookmarks and MS Office Outlook address book to the new computer.
1. How do I do this?
2. Are there any other files or info I should transfer?
I'm trying to avoid losing anything if the old laptop dies (no signs, just old). I store all my program backups, pictures and documents on a portable hard drive and cds.
3. Should I be doing more? I notice my Lenovo automatically backs up every day.
I cannot transfer files to an SDHC mini card when connected to my Windows 7 computer; no problem on my Windows Vista computer. I've tried changing the drive letter because the drive shows "unallocated", but that didn't work. The drive is showing up in My Computer. I get an error message, "Cannot read from source file". I've selected to give administrator options and everything I know to do to no avail.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Desktop running Win 7 Home premium and have recently installed Win 7 Professional on my laptop. I want to transfer the desktop and other settings (MS Office) and files from the desktop to the laptop. The desktop has 2 drives, one with Windows and program files and the other with User Data. My laptop has one drive partitioned with a similar setup, Windows and Programs on the C: partition and User Data on the D: partition. When I try to transfer I get the message the transfer cannot take place because there is not enough room and to delete some files to make room. The problem seems to be that the transfer wizzard is trying to transfer everything from the Desktop to the C: drive of the laptop, rather than C: to C: and D: to D:. Is there a way around this ? I have tried to map the drives but it wont let me do that!
Secondly, if I only try to transfer fewer files, I am told the Desktop is not connected to the domain, but I have not set up a domain and when I try on the desktop, the option is greyed out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from Mac to PC, and I would like to transfer my iTunes library (preferably with all the playlists intact) via external harddrive. I uploaded all my iTunes data to the drive making sure to consolidate my library first so that all my playlist/rating data would be uploaded as well. I have about 12,000 songs, so this process took several hours.I hooked up my drive to my PC, and I tried dragging the music folder to various locations (My Music, desktop, etc.)It seems like the copying process starts (it says time/speed is calculating and that it is starting to detect more and more GB of data), but then it mysteriously stops and the update box disappears. There is no error message. When I try to drag it one more time, nothing happens.
