Disable The Windows Update Restart Prompt Completely
May 20, 2012
Does anyone know a good way of disabling the Windows update restart prompt completely? I have disabled the 15 minute auto restart timer but I still get the prompt to restart popping up when I am trying to play a full screen game. The best thing I have found so far is an AutoHotKey script that automatically clicks postpone which is fine for normal computer use but the problem is that my games still minimize for the short time the popup is displayed.
I use W7 + SP1. I tried to update my Apli Master 6 program but for some reason it did not install properly. I tried to uninstall the partly installed program but this failed to happen. Now, I keep getting a pop-up notice from the ISD with a 'runtime error' message. I tried to stop the ISD by going to C/Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services/ Interactive Services Detector and stopping it. However it keeps reappearing with the same message, and will not stay "Stopped." How can I disable it completely?
Just got a new HP Pavilion Notebook. I didn't like using the touchpad, so I plugged in a mouse. Then, I went to the Control Panel and TRIED to disable the touchpad. The mouse works great, but the touchpad keeps enabling itself again. It really gets ugly when I'm using the mouse and stop to type something in and the weight of my hands causes the screen zoom to adjust and jump.Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad until I really want to use it?
sometimes, although i am logged as admin, i am not allowed to replace some files, even though i choose to permit, etc.how can i completely disable that thing, when i am already logged as admin?

In the past, I have had to use the built-in Administrator account to install Microsoft's virtualization software and install Windows XP Mode (I don't know why it wouldn't install before, I even disabled UAC with failed results). In order to do this, I enabled the Administrator account via Command Prompt, as recommended by a tech support specialist I used the command "net user administrator /active yes" and the Admin account was active, I installed the program, disabled the Administrator account, and went on my merry way.
It is now about a year later and after I have created a system image of my computer (I only made one because I do not have enough sufficient storage to make multiple ones, or even replace my current one) I have found out that there is an issue with command prompt or something... I unfortunately do not know. I had to reactivate the Administrator account for one reason or another and did my business, but after I reactivated it I came to find that the same command to activate the Administrator account... Changed its password. I used a Linux Live CD with Ophcrack to find out that the password for my Admin account was changed to "yes". And after I tried to disable the account, INSTEAD of it being disabled, the password was set to "no" hence "net user administrator /active no". I decided to experiment on the matter with other accounts, and typing in other words besides "yes" or "no" and I found that the net user command will change the password of any account. This is disturbing to me and also, I would like to easily enable or disable any account without changing any passwords.
keep getting this admin prompt to enter username and password when i installsomething. the machine is part of a network. and i am logged in as a user. how do i change settings so a user never gets the prompt
there are alot of turorials on how to make a custom backround on your usb drive (and everyone who plugs it in will see this backround). I have read that this wont work on vista so i wonder if it works on Windows 7?

On Windows 7 Laptop, incessantly prompts to update Java. I've said yes, I've said no, I've changed the settings to turn off automatic updates several times. It won't stop. It prompts about 80% of the time I boot computer on. I've read a few things about messing with registry edits, but really don't want to start with that.
How do I disable the command prompt for a standard user account on my computer? Can my geeky teenager get around Windows7 parental controls by using the command prompt from his standard account on my computer?
Is there any way we can disable any particular Windows update?
My laptop is Lenvo thinkpad edge 14 which is having a Bluetooth 2 compatible hardware. And I'm using Home Premium x64. I can see the windows update driver for Bluetooth 3.0 is available for download, and it is automatically getting the driver downloaded! The problem is laptop getting restarted very frequently without any information on eventlog! a sudden restart! As per my primary investigation I can see only this one as a culprit.
I'm making a test equipment to test a USB device that uses a FTDI-chip (232R). This FTDI-chip has a S/N a Vendor ID (VID) and a Product ID (PID) along with many other settings.
My problem is: 1. I get a new USB device (not flashed in anyway) from the manufacturer, insert it into a USB port on the computer and windows install the standard device drivers included with this device (these are the same for every device) and no windows reboot message is visible.
2. Now I set the S/N, VID, PID to something I like, then I have to remove the USB device to set the settings. When I insert the device again Windows install the device drivers once again, but this time it prompts me with the message "Restart Now or Restart Later". I press "Restart Later" and the device works fine anyway... BUT Can I somehow get rid of this message?
I have a 2-yr old Alienware Aurora. This AM, following a Win 7 update & restart, I powered off the system before the update was complete (the Alienware splash screen covers up Win info on startup). Now, the machine will start, but goes no further. I cannot boot into Bios or any of the system files. The machine also does not recognize the original OS disk, so I can't even do a reinstall. No keyboard commands are functional at this point.
I was installing an update when right in the middle it stops. If I try to restart windows it fails on the windows loading screen, forcing me to restore windows which I hate to do because it messes up my Flight Simulator program. I didn't get any error message it just completely goes dead and leaves me clueless.
running W7 64 pro on Asus P6T MB for 1 year no problems. This time windows update popped up and I oked the restart (nothing open). It restarted and I signed in ok but slow. Every thing I clicked on had the "sutters". Asked MS security to do quick virus scan and it came back clean asked for full scan and could not get it to do one.Restarted computer in hopes that it would work it's problem out but now I can not sign in under any account including admin? What do I do now?
Yesterday I did a load of windows updates.. Service pack was apart of it. After all was done I rebooted and found my pc was freezing solid. I then did a system restore and still had freezing. I removed my AVG for now. So far no freeze but I have not been running long enough to really know... but what is happening is when it's in sleep mode the hard drive revs up about every 4 minutes. the computer remains sleeping but does this 3 second rev? My next thought was to do the windows updates again?
Is there a way to stop the "Do you want to scan and fix Removable Disk (X?" prompt every time I insert a flash drive? Doesn't matter if it's an SD card in the reader, a thumb drive, or my android phone acting as a storage device.
Each time I have to click "continue without scanning". Maybe I've just been lucky and have dodged a bullet by not scanning and fixing (recommended) - or maybe, MS is on a hair trigger?
I have a Logitech Webcam and I don't know why but it wants to update itself via Windows update. Is there a way to disable this, not only hide but disable from appearing in my Windows updates list?
I now have W 7 Home premium. I have windows update set to auto update. As I was checking email and just cruizin the net etc. My pc just shut down and restarted. I discovered that it was the auto update. I want to continue to use auto update, but I don't want my pc to shut down and restart even though it warns me.

i am having issues installing java on my pc it will not install i have run registry cleaner and c cleaner also have used the msirepair and allowed in firewall it starts to install gets all the way to the end then says "The wizard was interrupted before Java(TM) 6 update 29 could be completely installed. to complete installation at another time, please run setup again.i went to the java website and it says they are aware of this problem and are trying to repair it figure maybe you could offer a resolution quicker than they could .
AAM Updater plants itself in your Task Scheduler and your Startup to maintain this routine.Yet Adobe probably releases an update only every couple of months. If you try to delete those entries, the next time you start an Adobe Application, AAM Updater puts itself back into your Startup and Task scheduler. This stops it.[CODE]
Suddenly the Restart option on my PC has stopped functioning. After logging off and shutting down, the PC starts the process of restarting but gets stuck on the welcome screen of the motherboard. I can see the light showing had disk drive activity but no further progress takes place. I have to then forcibly stop the PC by pressing the start button long. After the PC stops, I can start it notmally by pressing the start button again and then it starts normally.Whether the restart option is used mouse Start/Restart or clicking on the <Restart Now> option after updates, the problem is the same.
over the weekend I updated my video card drivers to the most recent version and since then my system would crash after I play a game of Dota or whatever. If I left the computer running without running any games it would perform fine and not crash. Sometimes it would give me a BSOD but more often than not my computer would simply turn off and then restart. There were no dump file created nor where there any events logged other than:"Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error:0xC000000D" and "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first..."I ran a Memtest86+ and I have no errors and I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 so I'm pretty sure that it is due to my video card drivers. But the problem now is that the system crashes even after I did a system restore and after I completely reinstalled my drivers to a much much earlier version (like a year and a half old driver).
System specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Intel i5 Gigabyte P55M-UD2 ATI Radeon 4800 Microsoft Security Essentials
The system started an update and in spite of the warning not to turn the computer off, the update got interrupted. The restart has been 'Preparing Your Desktop' for about 2 hours with no diagnostics or any indicators.
