Couple of days ago I protected and encrypted a rar file with password while I was using administrator profile. After a week, I made another profile in win7 and made it administrator; simultaneously I deleted the previous profile. Now I cant access that rar file; its showing access denied.

I'll give an example: two files, names 1st_file.avi, 2nd_file.avi, nearly same size, at different locations. Now I deleted 1st_file.avi and 2-3 weeks after deletion, I open 2nd_file.avi (which wasn't deleted) and find that instead of the original 2nd_file.avi, the contents of 1st_file.avi are being played. How can the contents of 1st_file.avi mapped onto the the contents of 2nd_file.avi?

I distribute Microsoft Access developed software and the program relies on locating its backend .mdb file. I find on Windows 7 that even if I delete a file and it appears to be gone, it seems to be stored somewhere. I need to be able to get rid of the backend database file for good.

I have a small problem tha I have been working on for 2 days, and I am stuck. I have a folder on my desktop that will not delete. The folder is empty, and windows recognizes it as a missing folder. I have attached the image of the error message. I have tried file shredder, chkdsk, defrag, and ran an elevated command prompt and deleted the 8.3 name, but still there.

Okay, so my Microsoft security essentials did a scan on my computer last night, and found a coinminer virus; my boyfriend stayed up to watch the scan, though he said he went ahead and removed the file it was infected with instead if quarantining it. The file was kwdll or somesuch, and now that the computer has restarted, setup repair started as well. It's been running for a little under an hour, but I've heard of it freezing for 12 hours or more.
My question is, what the heck do I do if it keeps going for that long? Is that normal? I've also heard that if you power down the computer while it's doing the repair if you think it froze, it may delete all of your files...so I don't want to do that.
I do not have a windows disc, and don't know anybody with one. My computer is JUST out of warranty, as well. >_< I am posting this from my phone.

I installed Win 7 and if i try to open my computer of click on desktop and open up screen resolution etc. I get "Explorer.exe -Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I did a search but could not find anything related to this error in Win 7. I have found some others attached to Win XP but have to do with the installation of some software which prevents access to explorer.exe. When I boot in safe mode this issue does not appear...

I wanted to consolidate data from other disks that I had so I could use those disks to convert an existing Windows 7 installation into a RAID array. So I hooked up additional 2 x 500GB disks that contained files and previous installations of Windows and a 1TB drive to copy the files I wanted to keep. These two 500GB other disks were used for Vista in the past and both had been used as primary hard disks (ie they both had independent OS's installed). After booting up, I proceeded to browse through the disks and decided what I wanted to keep and what I didn't want to keep. I had to change permissions here and there to get access to the old Vista directories etc. All well and good so far.I have C: (Windows 7 installation), G: (old Vista disk) and F: (another old Vista disk). For all other installs including the Windows 7, I used the same username. For convenience sake, lets call my username billgates. So, C:, G: and F: all had directories USERS/billgates directories.Following this so far? When I browsed to F:usersillgates, I was seeing files from that directory plus files from c:usersillgates even though the location in windows explorer was saying f:usersillgates

The last update:October 15, 2011Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)After this update, a program was uninstalled (gone with no trace). The program had a screensaver option and I noticed it when the screensaver came up blank. Its shortcut was no longer on the desktop. Two files I had created October 12th, and was working on were deleted.I don't know if any other files were deleted.

I am attempting to access an application.exe file on my desktop. Each time that I click on it the Windows message, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." pops up. I am the system administrator so this should NOT be a problem but apparently many out there are dealing with this as well. I can delete, move and even copy the file but I cannot run it. There is no option for override with password or grant permission. It just says that I cannot run it. Also, the system I am running is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

I tried to download a PDF but something went wrong during the download and I ended up with a file icon on my desktop without any extension and having 0 bytes. When I try and delete this file icon I get the error message: "Could not find item. This is no longer located in C:UsersMynameDesktop. Verify the item's location and try again". This seems like a contradiction - Windows is showing a file icon on the desktop but then says there is no file there! I have tried searching for a file by that name elsewhere and there is nothing. I have also tried cleaning the reg and doing a disk cleanup. How to delete this useless file icon from my desktop?

So, I was having problems with my .dat file type icon, and in frustration trying to get rid of the icon and start all over again, I deleted the file type in the registry. Will this cause problems in the future, even though I re-added it in the registry? I don't see any problems with them right now, but I didn't know if I might have troubles in the future due to this.

Secondly, I'm having a few problems. I recently purchased a new laptop and was transferring files from the old ones hard drive using an enclosure. I somehow deleted my Videos and Documents sections on my new laptop. I can't paste anything, or move anything into these locations. I also can't create a new folder without getting a File System Error (512).
When I look at the properties of them, I can see that only the "public" locations are visible (Already tried resetting defaults by the way). I took a snap shot of the comparison between the music and video properties. How do I get that other location back?

So, my antivirus (avast 5.0) found an "infected file" which it deleted. Shortly after that, he asked me to restart the computer for a startup analysis, which i tried. My computer then restarted, and I got to a "startup repair" window, trying to resolve problems. This windows runs for about 25mn to finally tell me that it is unable to correct the problems.I of course tried to boot in safe mode, tried "system restauration" a few times, and I allways get to the "startup repair" window.I also don't have win7 installation CD because they don't give it to you with your laptop when you buy it around here (yes, I made reclamations to get it but they just answered me that if I wanted the cd I had to pay the windows7 license again, this was out of the question).
I'm actually booted on a linux usb device (and hopefully I have access to all my datas!), and I have two questions for you (maybe three in fact):1- Is there any way to reinstall the startup whole thing without the installation CD?2- Is there a file where avast's last actions are reported? I went through the log files, report folders and journal folders in my avast folders, and couldn't find any clue about the file he deleted. My idea was simply to get the name of that file to replace it manually.

I am getting this error all the time with Windows 7. I open a text file I want to edit, then go to save my changes and I get this error:
"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"
I have full admin rights, running Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1. From a bit of research I have seen where many others have been experiencing this problem or something similar too. The only "fix" (that doesn't work all the time) is to close explorer.exe and then restart it to "release the handle"? Anyway, this is not acceptable for to money and time I spent upgrading/configuring this new OS from XP where I never had this problem and seriously cuts down my productivity.
Is there a fix for this? Has Microsoft even acknowledged this as a bug yet? I can duplicate this scenario the second or third time I try to edit/save/delete a text file and I know that explorer.exe is the problem or a big part of it in any case. I don't want to go back to XP x64 but having to deal with this headache 10-20 times a day is just too much to ask.

I have a huge problem. I've been trying to download a resource pack for a program and it says, 'you don't have write privileges to directory, But when I check in the Properties it says I'm the Owner. I REALLY need to get this downloaded and have no idea what to do. Now I've been trying to delete the folder and start all over again, and of course I can't do that either.

Cannot access any file due to permissions. Need to know how to remove programs, then reset permissions. I've been trying to work on this for two days. Our network runs on a 2008 active directory domain, and our domain controller also is an internal DNS server; we have an additional server that is our internal web server and hosts a RAID 1 mirrored file share for everyone to put their data (which we have folder redirection configured on for the My Documents folder, and people also access it as a mapped network drive). It all works flawlessly, except on two client computers.
1. The two clients can ping the file server both by name and IP.
2. Clients can can log into the file server by remote desktop, by name.
3. Nslookup shows that the clients can communicate with the DNS server and resolve the domain name to the correct IP address.
4. Clients can access the internal sites at http://<file server>
5. Clients cannot access the file share at \<file server>, but can access it at \192.168.1.104.
6. I have already flushed the DNS cache on the client machines.
Its really odd, because it would seem like this is a DNS issue but everything else works: http dns works, nslookup works, and I already flushed the DNS cache. These are the only computers having any issues at all. All the computers on the network have their dns server manually assigned, and all the servers have a DHCP reservation so their IP wont change.

I've just installed Win 7 Home premium in my PC. OS on SSD and attached a 1TB WD hdisk for storage. File access, eg .. transfer, copy, delete to and from the hdisk etc... are really very slow. My previous PC running on XP no such problem. However, there is no such issue with the SSD. I'm very new to Win 7.
