"Data Safe Local Back UpComponentsDSUpdateDSUpdate.exe" "abnormal Program Termination"
Apr 27, 2012
Of course I will be posting in Dell's forums also, I could use some direction. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. New, will use warranty if needed. I have encountered runtime error for Data Safe back up.
"Data Safe Local Back UpComponentsDSUpdateDSUpdate.exe" "abnormal program termination"
Dell Community suggested going to the folder, double clk the DSUpdate.exe and follow the prompts to update, but I get the above error when doing so. Another option was to create recovery media to work around the problem, but I did that upon initial set up of the pc.
I screwed up today. While meaning to delete files from AppDataLocalTemp, I accidentally deleted (many) from AppData. [Sidebar: Is there any way to configure the file explorer such that deleting from the folder view is disabled?] After a brief panic, I downloaded (from another machine) the utility Recuva64 and restored the missing files to a separate drive, after which I copied them back to where they belong.
But, there was a problem - I could not copy files from the recovered folder Credentials to LocalAppDataCredentials. Even stranger, I did not have permission to view the security credentials of LocalAppDataCredentials. I tried booting to safe mode to fix this, but both folders were gone - the recovered one as well as LocalAppDataCredentials.
So, my system is up and running, but the folder LocalAppDataCredentials is missing. I tried using Recuva64 again, but it did not find the folder. I also looked in an older backup of my profile, but again, I did not see the folder. The folder does, whoever, exist on my notebook (but whose to say if the information is consistent).
When my Second Copy tried to copy all of other Application Data I get an error message that says will not copy. Really I am interested in coping only 1 copy of Microsoft Live Mail especially the contact info and the email not 10 copies like what seems to happen sometimes especially when I am using Windows to copy ML Mail from one disk to another without Second Copy.I went thru the Application Data "folders" in C drive and did not intend to delete the extra but that is what happened. I checked my email and there was no change.
I just installed win 7 ult 64 and have questions about Libraries...I have an external hard drive connected to my router and store a lot of my files and back ups on it...
Q1) If I include a folder in a library from the network drive, when I back up or image my laptops local D Data partition, will it duplicated these HUGE folders I have on my network drive? Or will it take up space on my local d data partition to add include those folders in library??
I have a Toshiba laptop which was shoked by lighting, now whenever i try to access its HDD as USB mass storage it's detected by my new computer as ROW DRIVE, I have important Data on it I need to recover them while Windows telling me that I have to format the disc in the drive before I use it. What I can do to recover back my data.
Basically, I turned on my laptop and it automatically went on Safe mode and I can't get back to normal. The screen is also blurry and instead of the taskbar I can see the top of the screen...eugh.. If you get me. Should I reinstall my Windows? p.s. I don't have a disk for it, so I guess I will have to download a ISO or something. Will this get everything back to normal?
My laptop has Windows 7 and it corrupted due to virus attack. Now I cannot access external USB device, such as external hard disk. I cannot even connect to internet. I plan to format everything and then re-install the OS, but need to back up my data first. How can I back up my data (250GB) without access to USB drive and internet?
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, so I can't encrypt using Windows, I understand that I have to use third-party software. What do I do if I want to email an encrypted file to a third-party? How does encryption keep my data safe if my laptop is stolen?
I tried putting it in safe mode and it went through running some files and when it came back to the start menu, the mouse was frozen. I could still type in my password, and it went to the desktop but the mouse remains frozen. I hope I don't need some other password because I don't have one.
I just bought an Internal 3 TB HDD to use as Storage only! I will not be using it as my OS. My question is, Should I compress my Data on this drive, or just put it on there normally? I can do this when I format the Drive or just right click on the drive and enable compression which isn't an issue. Just curious if I should Compress or Not?
Switching over from a Swedish language XP system I'm utterly frustrated with Windows 7 (Ultimate + Sedish language pack).
The localized version of both sytems replaces the "Program Files" folder with a "Program" folder.
In XP that causes no trouble, 95% of all applications happily install themselves into "Program" and run ok there, the few exeptions insist on creating a "Program files" folder but then run happily there.
Not so in Win 7. On the system disk there is a "Program" folder and at least some programs install themselves there, and run ok there. But, if you create a shortcut to a program the shortcut is pointing at C:Program files and changing it to C:Program.. causes an error message when trying to activate the program. This becomes rather confusing when you yourself have to create shortcut addresses.
Some programs have exactly the opposite problem, for example WinZip is on one hand unable to extract a zip file to C:Program files as it cannot find the folder (altough explorer clearly sees such a folder) and on the other hand creates a new, extra, C:Program folder if told to extract to that folder. So then there are two "Program" folders, one pointed at by %ProgramFiles% and another one not pointed at!
Some other programs have the same kind of problems.
What is going on here? Have I missed some step in the language pack installation or has MS managed to break a system that worked perfectly well in XP for years?
Has anyone had similiar problems with other language packs?
My System was working fine yesterday.I turned it off and came back today and tried turning it on.It took the System to Automatic Repair and got stuck there
- When ii restarted it. it said "Select a proper Boot Device"
- I Booted into BIOS and it stopped getting Detected
- I reseated the HDD and it was getting detected again
- I took it out and connected a friends system and checked
- It took a while to Start his OS.
- Then In Computer Management my hdd being shown as "931.2Gb Unallocated"
- How to get it Back..
- I have 6+ years photographs on it.
- But not aware which option should i use so i can recover my data back.
So the problem is had a virus called the system check virus and started going through the manual process of getting rid of it. One part of it is making hidden folders, etc accessible and then renaming the virus files so it doesnt recognise them and they stop running. While in there i accidentally changed two of the folders names which had alot of characters so i mistook it for one of the virus files.I've since learned these are windows folders and needed. was hoping someone could post a screenshot or something showing what these folders are meant to be called so i can change them back.
Normally both of my HDDs (750 segate, 250 segate) never make any noticeable noise above the sound of my fans. A few days ago one of them (haven't narrowed it down to which one) make a loud beep sound and then revs itself up really fast. They both seem to be working fine, but they have never really made any noises until now and I'm worried about the health of the drive. It's one of my storage drives.
On this recent windows update, 2/14/13, my computer froze on the "Preparing to configure windows" screen for several hours. I rebooted normally and the screen went to "configuring updates" and stuck at 67% for about an hour. I got frustrated with it and rebooted to safe mode to see if I could do a system restore and when I did it said there was no restore point back up! So I rebooted normally and now it is still just sitting on the "Preparing to Configure Windows" screen with the circle spinning. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Dimension 2400.
I ran the System diagnostic and it seems I have a service that is "abnormally terminating service" It lists it as "UNKOWN" . I checked Services in Administrative Tools and see no errors that I know of anyway. Has anyone else encounter this? I have attached a snapshot of my system diagnostic results..
Yesterday, I was reading an article about a program that removes every crumb left behind from uninstalling programs, sniffing out all junk files and had some useful tools on it. It's called Reno Uninstaller and I tried it out on XP Pro and it found over 400MB of junk files, bits of uninstalled files and their registry entries and other crap.
Having nothing to lose on that laptop, I cleaned them. Is this program safe for Windows 7, and is there such a thing as too much cleaning when it comes to programs that you no longer use or want to uninstall. When you use it to uninstall, it claims that there's no trace of it left behind. Is this a safe alternative to the default Windows program, or could I be flirting with disaster?
I'm new to WIN 7 and I keep seeing references to the Folder "Program Data" and/or"ProgData" in the C: drive . I can't find this folder and I'm sure I've got all folders selected as being visible.
Since wrong press F11(Recovery) which caused cannot boot up the Windows, but whole OS and all application program moved to Drive D (Type dir d: can browsed at command prompt under System Recovery Option)Would like to know how can I backup whole partition(Drive D:-Windows, All application programs & working data) and can restore back to Drive C ?
I have windows 7 and really like it but theres something im confused about.
